This is the most ridiculous thing I have seen on these forums lately. While I admire your positivity this couldn't be more false. I am extremely confident that there will be no consensus on anything, but generally this film will go down as the one that tried to be bold and different but was an epic fail to the Star Wars lore. Never in my life have I seen so much frustration towards a movie. I remember the backlash towards TPM, and although the reaction was pretty bad it was still praised for its originality. TLJ was an absolute travesty to most fans and the Star Wars Lore.

Given that we'll be voting again at the end of the year when Solo comes out, then again next year with Ep IX (still can't believe that I might yet live to see STAR WARS EPISODE 9!!!), here we go again, and I can see myself giving TLJ a vicious re-evaluation over time. Also adding my own ratings:

    1. Star Wars / A New Hope / The Film Formerly Known as Star Wars - 10/10
    2. The Empire Strikes Back - 9.5/10
    3. Return of the Jedi - 8.5/10
    4. Revenge of the Sith - 8.5/10
    5. The Force Awakens - 8/10
    6. The Last Jedi - 7.5/10
    7. The Phantom Menace - 7.5/10
    8. Rogue One - 7/10

For the last couple of years, I've always viewed the Original Trilogy as one large film. Watching all three back to back makes each film much stronger, particularly with Luke's character. But since I have to rank them individually, here it goes:

    1) Empire Strikes Back 9/10
    2) A New Hope 9/10
    3)Return of the Jedi 8/10
    4) Revenge of the Sith 6.5/10
5)The Force Awakens 6/10 (This actually would have been higher on the list, but all the build-up in this was squandered in TLJ. It would have originally been in higher on this list)
    6)The Phantom Menace 5/10
    7)Attack of the Clones 5/10
    8)The Last Jedi 3/10

Since last time TLJ has over taken TFA, and AOTC and TPM have swapped places. Apart from that it’s the same as the last version of this thread:

    Return of the Jedi
    The Empire Strikes Back
    Rogue One
    The Last Jedi
    The Force Awakens
    A New Hope
    Revenge of the Sith
    Attack of the Clones

I'm leaving Rogue One off the list, simply because it's a different beast to the episodic entries. But I dug it a lot (more with each viewing).

    1) Revenge of the Sith
    2) Return of the Jedi
    3) A New Hope
    4) The Empire Strikes Back
    5) The Last Jedi
    6) The Force Awakens
    7) Attack of the Clones
    8) The Phantom Menace

That's just a ranking of my favorites of course, but in reality I enjoy all of the films (thus far...we'll see what happens with Solo).

    The Force Awakens

Basically, TLJ settled in to about the upper middle of my rankings. I still really like it, but there are some times where the movie feels a little too far off from Star Wars. It doesn't make me not like the movie, but it does cost it a few spots in my ranking.

Here is my initial ranking with a bit more explanation:

Three generations of films makes it too hard to have a consensus now but its very difficult to tell exactly what people will make of TLJ. It may well be that 20 years down the line that there will be so many films - people wont actually have that strong a viewpoint on specific films - maybe they will just rank them as trilogies if we still have trilogies.

The backlash on sites like this doesn't seem to mirror the real world. Most people I've spoken to enjoyed the film - sites like this seem to exacerbate everything. The people who like it get annoyed with the sort of post above (absolute travesty to most fans and the Star Wars lore - come on behave yourself) and exaggerate how much they like it and I would guess people who say they like it drive the 'dislikers' on to insist how 'bad' it is.

You need to accept that not everyone is the same as you and you can't speak for the fan-base. You say

"TLJ was an absolute travesty to most fans and the Star Wars Lore"

I'm sorry but this isn't the case and when you read this kind of thing, it just looks a bit ridiculous and difficult to take seriously. A lot of fans love it. Even on this site, The Last Jedi is ranked the 4th favourite film which seems to be roughly where the average film goer seems to put it. I'm guessing some people are just putting it last on here to make a point (I mean seriously does anyone with a straight face think AOTC is better ?)

Before seeing TLJ I rewatched all the movies for the first time in a couple of years, and I found that I rank them quite differently now from how I did before. For example, I've always ranked ANH number 1, but not anymore; in fact, it has moved down quite a few places.
Now, I've only seen TLJ twice, so its place might change after I've been able to see it a few times at home, but right now, I think my ranking goes like this (and as I always do, I include all the movies in my rankings):

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Return of the Jedi
    3. The Last Jedi
    4. A New Hope
    5. Rogue One
    6. The Force Awakens
    7. Revenge of the Sith
    8. The Phantom Menace
    9. The Battle for Endor
    10. Attack of the Clones
    11. The Clone Wars
    12. Caravan of Courage

(Disclaimer - putting Ewoks 2 ahead of Episode II is not me bashing AOTC, it's simply me loving TBFE waaaay too much for it to be healthy for a 30+ year old)

I understand that was a harsh thing for me to say and that everyone doesn't think like me, however, the fan reviews on rotten tomatoes totally backs up my statement and I stand by it 100%. I realize that this sounds like bashing and I do like the film to an extent, I just I feel like TLJ is the weakest of the Star Wars films because of the sheer amount of plot holes, (and there are too many to list... but the first order not being able to get into range to easily destroyer the resistance ships for one), poor humour, un-needed social justice themes, the weakening of main characters such as Luke, Poe and Finn, the disgrgarding of the story that TFA set up, failed opportunities and most of all, the disregarding of the way force has been set up to operate in the Star Wars universe. (Rey needing no training, Snoke seeming more powerful than the Emperor, Yoda summoning lightning as a ghost, Luke's projection becoming physical matter as he physically touches Leia even though Kylo's lightsaber can't touch him, etc.) And finally, much of the film purposely went against the fundamental plot points that made the originals so great. It's like the director thought, "you want this to happen? Well I'm going to do the opposite just to make a point at the expense of the story."

Mod Edit: Please don't instigate here.

What do you regard as "most" and how do the rotten tomatoes scores back this up ? The audience score is about 50/50 - its well known people are more likely to review to complain than vice versa so I would guess that maybe 75% of people watching the film enjoyed it so that leaves 25% who didn't and did they all hate it and think it was a travesty ? At a push I would say maybe 10% truly hated it and thought it was a travesty and really that's a stretch. How is 10% most ? It just isn't and you are wrong.

I get why some a significant number of people don't like it - I don't necessarily agree with them and think some of the issues people have are petty - some definitely aren't (the casino sub-plot thing was weak , Leia flying is one that I think he might look back and think whoops) and happy to argue it out but you've got to be sensible here. The people who like it accept a lot of people hate it so not sure why this understanding isn't reciprocated.
