Look the thing about B&R is....if you liked 60's Batman, you really can't complain cause it's more of the same. It's one of the most criminally misunderstood movies of all time. Yes it's not a "serious" Batman movie, but it's not a serious Batman movie. We can have The Dark Knight and Batman and Robin. Both are entertaining for what they are. Batman and Robin also wasn't a totally out of nowhere thing. The Burton/Schumacher films had slowly been becoming more and more ridiculous, starting with The Nightmare Before Catwomen.

I'm putting it up there with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End in horribly misunderstood movies.

I didn't hate it. It was just really disappointing compared to its predecessors.

Whoever said why watch The Dark Knight Returns because its watered down, I didnt enjoy Year One at all, but you owe it to see this one, the animation is superb and its just very very well done.

But is it as good as the book? Does it add anything or just subtract from the story? Is it an alternative take or just line by line recreation of the book with animation?

I haven't read TDKR in a looooooong time so I can't tell you the details but even the news broadcasts are in the movies. They try to adapt the art into the story, big bodies and chins and whatnot and it works. And Peter Weller is a really good older Bruce Wayne and Batman, I was initially worried because I love Conroy but he does a very good job. And the score for the movies fits perfectly.

So here's the thing: Your poll is asking for my FAVORITE Batman film.

My favorite Batman movie is 1989 Batman.

The Batman movie I think is the best is The Dark Knight.

Plausible, yeah, but with not a cent to his name (not even a credit card), importing himself back to the states would've been a bit challenging, even for the goddamn Batman. One line of dialogue could've explained the whole thing if Bane had bothered to ask him something along the lines of "How did you escape? How are you here?"

It's certainly not watered down, that's for sure. The way I'd describe it is that it adds depth to arguably one of the best Batman stories ever told. The Superman/Batman battle alone in the second part made the whole thing worthwhile. Wonderfully rendered and remarkably engaging. Even knowing the outcome, it was impossible not to get caught up in it.

But what truly impressed me was how they didn't shy away from the dark character of the story. The Joker was amazing, as was the final confrontation between Batman and him. Does it subtract from the story? Not in any substantial way that I could detect, but I really should go back and read the original again in the near future. Does it bring anything "new" to the story? I'd probably say not really. It does add depth to the story, though that may not always be a good thing. Is it absolutely true to the story? Absolutely. Watch it and tell me if you disagree.
