the more i think about this the more i would like Clones more (and i love sections of it) if was not for what happens to C3PO in the droid factory, fireplace scene and the awful animal riding by the waterfalls which was a great background and further jarred by being cut into one of my fave scenes (fight in rain)

To be completely honest, I've never had any of those problems with Attack of the Clones that other people have. Anakin's and Padme's relationship worked for me (and there was some excellent foreshadowing in their 'clunky' dialogue) and the C-3PO bit was actually pretty funny.

And if you can't tell by my avatar, I'm in love with everything and anything pertaining to Kamino in that film.

    1. A New Hope
    2. Empire Strikes Back (these three are a tie for my most favorite, so I numbered them based on installment)
    3. Return Of The Jedi
    4. The Phantom Menace (brought down only by the deaths of Qui-Gon and Darth Maul)
    5. Attack Of The Clones (begins overdependence on CGI, but is an otherwise great movie, overall)
    6. Revenge Of The Sith (overdependence on CGI, and it seems rushed)
In my opinion, the PT had tremendous potential, but was tasked with a monumental legacy to live up to in the OT. 'Twas ultimately consumed by that legacy, only in that the PT could not tread too far off from what had come before, and therefore could not become everything that George Lucas had envisioned for it to be without alienating OT fans. Lucas's attempt to ingratiate the PT with OT fans quelled the unique spark that the PT attempted to create for itself, and that was the only thing that brought down the PT experience.

Would anyone be interested in a thread like this about the Star Trek films? Maybe in the Community section? Darth_Nub

Yeah, the Community forum would be the place for that. I don't frequent it all that often, not sure what the general feeling towards Star Trek is, though.

    That's harsh ... but funny.

Maybe we need a nice, feel-good thread called 'best bits from the films we like least'.

Actually your post is a little misleading as you are including the runs of the Special Editions. Adjusted numbers for each film during their initial runs:

    1 Star Wars Fox $1,133,308,100 $307,263,857 5/25/77
    2 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Fox $673,516,900 $431,088,295 5/19/99
    3 Return of the Jedi Fox $643,008,100 $252,583,617 5/25/83
    4 The Empire Strikes Back Fox $626,166,200 $209,398,025 5/21/80
5 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Fox $471,037,200 $380,270,577 5/19/05
6 Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones Fox $412,977,400 $302,191,252 5/16/02

Jedi and Empire still fall short of Phantom Menace if you include their reissues:

    12 The Empire Strikes Back (Re-issue) Fox $35,854,900 $13,276,241 11/19/82
    13 Return of the Jedi (Re-issue) Fox $25,166,700 $11,252,123 3/29/85

It isn't until you include the Special Edition releases that Empire or Jedi surpass Phantom. Frankly that's quite disingenuous as Phantom Menace has only had the one re-issue and that was not done in conjunction with the release of the rest of the PT, which was a big draw for the Special Editions. But it's clear the original poster was probably not accounting for inflation.

Not to mention that all of these only include the domestic gross. The PT all made more internationally than domestically, while the OT made much more domestically than internationally.

1 - ANH - Always has been. Always will be. As a single piece in the saga, it's a bit out of place. But as a standalone entity, I still think it's the greatest film ever.
2 - ROTS - After watching it recently, it's suddenly right up there.
3 - ESB - Not one I particularly enjoy watching anymore, but one I certainly admire.
4 - TPM - This was actually my favourite of the PT for some time, but a new found appreciation for ROTS has altered that. Had the Neimodians been executed more effectively, it might well be fighting ESB.
5 - ROTJ - Mainly for the scenes with Luke & Vader, and the finale. Other than that, I really don't rate it that highly. And that's from someone who LIKES the Ewoks.
6 - AOTC - Don't get me wrong, the middle of this one is up there with anything else in the saga. But it's a bit lacking elsewhere. Overall, a little half-baked, but by no means terrible. There's a lot to love about it.

    1. The Empire Strikes Back (my all time favorite movie)
    2. Return of the Jedi (the final Skywalker showdown, the space battle and John Williams best work in my opinion makes this second fave)
    3. A New Hope (Well it's a classic for a reason...)
    4. Revenge of the Sith (Ewan's Obi-Wan performance and the entire second half makes this almost as beloved to me as the originals)
    5. The Phantom Menace (a lot of kiddie stuff but it had an interesting story buried underneath that and the CGI)
    6. Attack of the Clones (the only one that left me feeling underwhelmed. Not well edited either, but it's friggin' Star Wars!)
