And a great avatar to match, right? It's from a Han EU quote regarding the nomenclature of Imperial superweapons, and what I'm convinced the Death Star II was meant to be christened as.

I keep flip flopping between ANH & ROTS as my favorite. I simply can't decide most days.

 

Having just re-watched them all, it's very tricky to say.

Best - A New Hope and The Emperor Strikes Back

Middle - The Clone Wars movie, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi

Worst - The Phantom Menace

I have done a marathon recently and it changed my opinions somewhat.

Previously I would have said Return of the Jedi, but although it has an amazing finale, there's a lot of chaff in there (Han and Leia are wasted, the entire middle section is dull).

Equally I used to adore Revenge of the Sith, but on recent viewing it seems both rushed (packing in waaaay too much stuff) and lazy (Obi-Wan hunting Grevous and Yoda with the Wookies is all just plotless CGI filling screentime).

Conversely, Attack of the Clones which I used to despise, is better plotted and works better than RotS as it takes it's time the lay out the story properly. I watched it twice.

It's good to see that after a slow start, ANH (TFFKASW) is gathering momentum, and will eventually be recognised as the greatest of all SW films and, indeed, the greatest of all films.

I have always found it encouraging that AFI ranked Star Wars among Vertigo, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, etc.

A recent marathon has made me reconsider somewhat.

-Revenge of the Sith remains my favorite
-Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace are tied. ESB is a better film, while TPM has better EU works based on it (which is important to me, and affects how I enjoy the film) and I find it to be more rewatch-able, if not more fun.
-Attack of the Clones and A New Hope are then tied for third. AotC seems to get better with every viewing, while ANH honestly has staled for me somewhat over the years. That being said, I still love both films.
-The 2003 micro-series is a film unto itself (clocks in at about 2 hours, actually) and deserves a place here on my list. Watching it between AotC and ROTS is virtually essential for me these days.
-Return of the Jedi remains my least favorite of the films.

It's irritating to me when people try to be cute or funny in threads like this and put a giant space between the movies they like and the ones they dislike or throw in the Holiday Special ahead of one of the proper films they dislike. It never fails and gets old real fast. Just rank the films.

 

This question isn't even fair. For me... whichever one I watched the most recently. I could keep them all on loop. Although I will say that I think the first half of ROTS is incredibly crammed and not well paced... but the AMAZING second half makes up for it.

But don't worry, it doesn't effect the ranking....which I really need to get back to

I'm plannning a marathon since the last time I watched the PT was around when ROTS came out, and I have a feeling I might appreciate the PT more this time around.
