I approached this simply. If I were bored some afternoon and wanted ONE SW MOVIE, what would it be? Had to go with Ep III.

 

I like all six almost equally, so ranking them is tough. For the most part this has been my ranking for awhile though.

1) Revenge of the Sith
2) Return of the Jedi
3) The Phantom Menace
4) The Empire Strikes Back
5) Attack of the Clones
6) A New Hope

 

From my most favorite to my least favorite Star Wars movie:

1) Revenge of the Sith
2) A New Hope
3) The Empire Strikes Back
4) Return of the Jedi
5) The Phantom Menace

Sometimes I think that A New Hope is my most favorite SW movie because I'm always surprised that this movie could have been made in the 1970's. But Revenge of the Sith was the first SW movie I saw and it blew my mind the first time I've watched it, so I'll put in #1 here.

I also like very much The Empire Strikes Back, especially the scenes with Yoda, but sometimes I think that A New Hope is better than Episode V.

Return of the Jedi is also a pretty good movie and I've always thought that it was a great ending to the saga.... well, until Disney has announced Episode VII.

I've appreciated The Phantom Menace when I first saw it. I think it's an OK movie and is, somehow, a victim of the overexpectations when it was first released in 1999.

Attack of the Clones was more difficult for me, especially after having watched Episode III. Some people say that Episode II was better than Episode I, but I rather think the opposite.

Now the rating I give to each of this movie (this does not necessarly match with the order of my favorite SW movies):

1) A New Hope: 10/10
2) The Empire Strikes Back: 9.5/10
3) Revenge of the Sith: 8/10 (somehow, I hesitate to give 8.5/10)
4) Return of the Jedi: 7.5/10 (I didn't really like the scenes with Jabba the Hutt in his palace, I thought they were silly)
5) The Phantom Menace: 6/10
6) Attack of the Clones: 5.5/10

I'm leaning more towards ROTJ being 4th these days, but I'm still not sure.

Though the Clone Wars beats all of them, but that's not really fair.

 

A poll has been made on the Star Wars official website, but it seems that the results aren't really valid (they are even biased because nearly than 45% of the people say that TESB is their favorite movie) since you're allowed to vote many times after having refreshed the web page. There a more than 31 000 votes, but on the Star Wars official facebook page there were only 4000 likes on the link and more than 7200 shares. I think that many have refresh the web page many times and have decided to vote the TESB continually.

 

Based on rankings from this thread (chart below), I'd say the Star Wars official poll is pretty accurate. I'm pretty surprised (and pleased) that even with a much larger sample size, Episode III is still 2nd in their poll.

 

I usually take polls with a grain of salt. Especially the one on this thread since we don't have enough votes.

However, as the admin on the Star Wars official website said, this is not a contest. Anyone who likes Star Wars is a Star Wars fan.

I'm a Jedi man,m'self. Empire was undeniably great though. There's about a hair's breadth between ANH,ROTS & TPM.I like them about equal. AOTC was my least favorite, but it was still good.
