I go back and forth between ESB and ANH, as well as between RotS and RotJ. I rewatched PM recently and was appalled at how bad it was. It's borderline unwatchable.

 

I've spent a lot of time this past year flip-flopping between SW and TESB, but I'm relatively certain this is my final ranking, at least until I have new films to add to it. As for my top choice, the original is just a flat out timeless classic, like The Wizard of Oz or Casablanca or A Clockwork Orange, one that will be celebrated long after we're all gone. Every frame drips with pure, undiluted movie magic. I implore anyone who's less fond of it than the others to try watching it in a vacuum. Isolate it from your knowledge of the other films and the larger series as a whole, and watch it with its historical context in mind. It's a breathtaking achievement of pure cinema and a testament to the power of moviemaking; an ode to imagination and creativity and storytelling.

Dammit bro. We almost have the same rankings. Just reverse 3 and 4 and it is exact. Closest ranking to mine I have seen so far. Props, my man, props.

I cannot decide between ROTS and ESB. Both of these movies took the plot in unexpected ways and that makes them my favorites. I also mean no disrespect but ANH is simply not high on my list. I highly respect it and view it as a good movie, but simply have other favorites.

I will redo this list when The Force Awakens comes out, but I fear it won't be as groundbreaking as ROTS or ESB. But I hope to be proved wrong!
