    About time I voted:

    1. Star Wars/A New Hope
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. Revenge of the Sith
    5. The Phantom Menace
    6. Attack of the Clones

About time this thread was stickied, too.

And thanks Jarren_Lee-Saber for tallying the votes. I haven't checked if there's any ballot-stuffing with sock accounts, will take a quick look to see if there's any known socks.

(IMHO, anyone putting that sort of effort into an internet poll is welcome to the result they think they've achieved. It's not like everyone voting for the winner gets a prize ;))

Come on! Anytime there is an opportunity to stuff ballots, SOMEONE has always done it! I've been guilty of it myself many times. When something you like is at stake in a poll, you do all you can to bring it up. Polls can be used as references in arguments.
Now imagine what argument power some of us would have if, say, The Phantom Menace was #1 in these results? :D Now you'll understand why ballot stuffing happens.

Zero. Same as anyone who wants to cite box office takings as Proof that that the greatest films of all time are Titanic and Avatar, that Irvine Welsh's best novel was Ecstasy, that the best album by The Doors was The Soft Parade, that Richard Nixon was a good President.

And I've taken a look, haven't spotted any socks anyway, but I'll keep an eye out for yours, you admitted it.:p

In all seriousness, polls are simply a reflection of who's participating in them. It's purely opinion-based, there's no subjective truth involved. I'd like to think that this thread might give certain users a bit of insight into the fact that their own opinions aren't the absolute truth they seem to think they are.

I don't have one!! That's way too far for me.

Maybe for you. Maybe you respect/value personal opinion over inconsequential numbers. But for must people, poll results, critics consensus, and other numbers go a long way to "proving" if a film is "objectively" good or not. Why do you think people generally think that ESB is the best SW film, and OT > PT? Because the numbers (except BO of course) show it.

I can't even think of a reason to have a sock account other than for cheating on polls and arguments or because you're a admin/mod who wants to have a decent discussion without being considered as "moderating" the conversation. It sounds like a headache to me.

Financially, the least successful SW film of all time is The Empire Strikes Back. That's 'numbers' for you.

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread, it's about your own opinion, not anyone else's. Carry on.

I was joking (you mentioned having been guilty of stuffing ballots in the past). Chill.

As far as sock (or 'multi') accounts are concerned, it's an internet thing, some people like to adopt different personas or just have a bit of a laugh. It's not specifically banned here, unless it's by a currently banned user, or if it's being done for the purpose of abusing the rules. Yes, ballot-stuffing would be considered abuse.

    ROTS 2005 - 471 Billion

I didn't really understand the whole sock thing either until I recently made one and have already enjoyed using it for a bit of harmless fun . But, as I am a law-abiding sockie;) and have already voted in this thread with my main account, I won't try to vote again now. :D

LMAO. You sir, do not know your numbers. No film ever has made a trillion USD.

Anyway, this is not a thread for discussing numbers (which is why I didn't contradict Darth _Nub)

Its a website the 'adjusts' for inflation as it takes tickets prices from when the movie was released & adjusts them to today's ticket prices thus giving a comparable comparison to each era. So of course it didn't make a trillion dollars, but that why I said they were adjusted for inflation. Please read my whole post before you insult me. Thanks.

Funny thing how there is a difference between "favorite" and what even we consider is actually good.

For example, for me. my favorites are in this order (as stated previously):
    TPM
    ROTS
    ESB
    ATOC
    ANH and
ROTJ (switching back & forth these days)

whereas the order I believe are actually solid films go this way:
    ROTS
    ESB
    TPM
    ANH
    ATOC
    ROTJ

I feel bound to add that for me, even what I consider to be the sixth best SW film is eminently watchable and contains one or two of the best scenes in the saga.
