So This movie is gonna be dark, and a pretty much ground war movie,
from what they have said, And has been compared to Hamburger Hill,
which has an R rating.. So I'm going with PG-13.
What do you guys think the rating will be?

I'm going with PG-13 as well. That rating has almost become the de facto rating for any kind of big action movie these days.

For some reason I feel R isn't out of the question though..
Seeing the teaser from Celebration, seems really gritty,(Which isn't bad)
    Maybe that's just me..

But if it was R they would probably loose some of the market... Even thought it would still do good!

Yeah, I think they'd be sure to keep within the confines of what's allowable under PG-13. R would lose too many kids and just not be fitting for a SW movie.

Yeah they're going to want to keep any movies in the Star Wars franchise as accessible to as many in their primary market as possible.

I'm thinking it will be a hard PG-13. Even for as much as they are pushing a war movie, I don't think we'll see a Star Wars movie be an R.

This will be a PG-13 movie as I expect most star wars movies to be from now on.

Rated PG-13 for sustained sequences of sci-fi action and brief mild language - something to that effect

And maybe disturbing images or thematic material..?
    (What ever thematic material is..)

Quite possibly. Obviously Disney is not going to push this to an R. They have subsidiaries that release R-rated pictures. Disney likes to keep things relatively clean. At the same time, a PG rating is seen as too soft - "for young children" - so to maintain some measure of credibility with the teenage (and older) crowd, they'll ensure it is PG-13.

I think it might push PG-13 as far as it might possibly go as far as violence goes, but for whatever reason the MPAA seems to be more concerned about harsh language and sexual situations, which Star Wars films really never have. I think a PG is pretty much impossible (I don't necessarily believe that to be true for The Force Awakens), but I think an R rating is even more unlikely.

In terms of not being old enough to see legally see it in theaters without adult supervision? If that's the case, I really hope Rogue One is rated R so you're forced to hear about how great it is from all of us. Only the cool kids can see Rogue One, nerd.

    If not, yeah, me neither.

There's really no benefit to giving the film an R rating. It would probably max out at around $450 million worldwide, so unless they made it much cheaper than any of the other films it's not the smartest idea financially.

Although, it would instantly become the coolest Star Wars film ever for kids in elementary and middle school, strictly off the basis of being something they're not supposed to watch.

I imagine every live action Star Wars film is going to be rated PG-13 for the foreseable future. That's the box office sweet spot.

I guess it's going to be PG-13. R would surprise me a little bit.

PG-13. Most likely for scenes of Science Fiction violence, in universe cursing and some intense imagery (which I personally hope will include Donnie Yen opening up more than one can of whup on Imperials.)

Disney wants to appeal to the largest amount of people possible.

It better not be R. That would allienate a large chunk of your fanbase.

One good thing about star wars is that anyone can enjoy it. From little kids to old men.

    and I say again, PG-13.

Gareth has played with that rating before and you can get a lot grit in without resorting to an R. I watched Donnie Yen's 14 Blades again earlier this evening. Despite an R rating, there were plenty of intense sequences (fighting and otherwise) that were not graphic, but felt like they were because of the cinematography and choreography. So I would expect Gareth to capitalize on those elements and run with them.

Of course the action in RO will be far more grounded and real world... but still:p

Comparing any Star Wars film to Hamburger Hill, my favorite Vietnam War film, is laughable.[face_laugh]

I voted PG-13 which is the rating all future Star Wars films will be.
