It's a swear word or curse, read the X-wing series.

It's an expression of suprise or alarm, and not unlike one people of my grandparents' generation used to use: "Great Caesar's Ghost!" A favorite expression of Perry White, Editor of the Daily Planet in the Superman comics. Kind of a way of swearing without using any dirty words, LOL.

Note this response. It may be the ONLY negative comment ever posted by me about Michael Stackpole:

He does overuse that particular epithet. We have but one planet, and have come up with bunches of curses (I personally can swear in half a dozen languages, as can most people if they think about it.) The occupants of GFFA have hundreds of star systems at least from which to draw their "colorful metaphors." There has to be more than "Emperor's Black Bones!" and "Sithspawn!"

    My two cents.

    --"Son of the Sith"
    --Gods-cursed-son-of-a-whelp (Yuuzhan Vong)

Anymore? I'm going to keep an updated list of all the known Star Wars swears, so I don't get yelled at for swearing in english.

stang isn't a star wars curse, it not only has been used in non star wars comics I've seen before.

But it traces back to a viking curse were one puts a decapitated head of a horse on a stake. The Niblem(sp?) Stang.

It's kind of like how damn and hell get used in star wars as well.

I can't remember how it was spelled, but there was one from Mara that went something like, "Oh, shavit!"

I don't know about you guys but i actually use some of these curses. "Kriff it!" is a personal favourite of mine....

In the Wraith books someone also said
"By the foul hearts of the Sith!" and something about the cloack of the Sith.

    Ara
(Kriffit, I just missed my buss. But I passed Latin, so I'm a very happy camper)

Well, definately finding some swears I didn't know about in SbS. Either their new or they appear in books I haven't read. But I find it intresting that we get By the Sith as a seeming replacement for By the Force. Sith Blood is also instresting.
