i saw Kill Bill Vol. 2 the other night, and after it was over, kept asking myself why Tarantino did it this way. dont get me wrongo, i liked it, but the way 1 & 2 are, it just seems to make the division of the two parts even more starkly contrast against each other more than compliment, IMO. and what happened to the Sophie chick from Vol.1? she was in the first one but what? probably not an important enough character, all she did was nothing really...it would have been better as one film than two...

not to change topic, but i was just over at fanfilms.net, and someone has or is apparently making or has made a Scanners fanfilm! i am gonna have to check that out sometime soon...

also, they have LOTR fanfilms over there, but they arent available online. is this how they keep themselves from getting sued, cuz i was under the impression that it was a big no-no to make a LOTR fanfilm. Dorkman had said this in an earlier thread i had, so if hes tellin me its off-limits, then im inclined to believe him...

Well, if you don't put it online or otherwise distribute it, they'd be hard-pressed to prove you made it.

not really much point to putting time and effort into a film if you cant show it online IMO. if i ever get around to it, ill design my site and get some of the early stuff i did when i was in college. be warned, it is cheesy, corny and utterly without good acting...but they were fun!

What could someone do if you made a LOTR fanfilm and put it on the net. If you're not making any profit at all, how could they make you shut it down? What specifically are you violating?

actually, i had a thread about this kinda thing about a week or two back. i wanted to make a series of fanfilms based on The Simarallion. however, according to Dorkman, the guy who owns all of the copyrights is a pretty uptight guy and wont allow these types of films, like George Lucas does. so to do anything like this is to bring down his wrath. im sure Mike can really fill you in with details as to why, but the long and short of it is, if they find you using these characters and posting the films online, your butt is gettin sued. its too bad, i was kinda lookin forward to doing that project and had a pretty good idea of how i was going to solve some of the problems one would run into with these sort of films...

 

I'm just curious as to what exactly they could sue for. What damages?

Interesting. I wasn't aware that you could copyright an idea. But I guess that's sort of what and why books are copyrighted. But wow, you'd have to be a major butthead to not let people pay homage to a great literary and film masterpiece by not letting us make fanfilms.

I do believe the "ass" in question was a mixture of self deprication and "dangit" substitute as earlier implied. I got no indication that Fig was sending any derogatory comments your ways... jerks.
