sorry, Zahn can't write death. Salvatore can.

spoilers: Brother Francis' death in Mortalis is the first time a death of a fictional character ever brought me to tears. Chewbacca's death was sad and touching, as was Elbryan's and Wulfgar's temporary death, but Francis was just heart-wrenching.

"I would like to see the grand master Zahn write this particular death."

Zahn wouldn't kill him - Luke would turn up as a clone and people impersonating as him. He would be killed, yet also be in every story taking place after it. [face_plain] No thanks. As has been stated before - Zahn can't write death. (Well, Zahn can't really write a decent SW novel at all - but that's a different discussion.)

    Valiento...

You know, it would actually explain a whole lot about Zahn's undermining of Star Wars if he was part of a conspiracy... [face_plain]

    Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
    We do! We do!
Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
    We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenburg a star?
    We do! We do!
Who robs the cave fish of their site?
    Who rigs every Oscar night?
    We do! We do!

    And then...

Who makes Zahn an author man?
Who makes N'Sync a popular band?
    We do! We do!

Come on Genghis .. he already DID that - why are you evoking probability ?

Nevertheless - you're right he shouldn't write Lukes' death.

Salvatore did good with Chewie .. but I'd like to see James Kahn finish him .. "return to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar"

The only author that has moved me to tears with a death scene has been Greg Rucka. Wierd since he is a crime writer. But I haven't gotten my hands on all of RAS's stuff yet either, so I can't compare DL.

But I don't think that there are all that many writers that could hit it right. And I've always preferred for Luke's death to not be written. Leave a gap of 20 years or so in the overall storyline (not like there is an absolute need to provide details for every month of every year in the SW universe) during which time he knew his number was up and did what Yoda did.

Luke's a sap whenever Zahn writes him. That or far too...motherly. It would probably be something along the lines of

''Mara, let me get that for you.'' Luke makes to wipe a bit of dirt of her cheek. Stubs toe on loose stone. Toe bleeds. Shriek! Faints. Hits head on the sidewalk. Dies slowly, trying to be romantic & succeeding only in sounding like an idji as he passes away.

Zahn can't write a decent SW novel? That's your opinion. TTT was widely acclaimed and it's what got the EU really rolling.

I remember hearing from some other users that Luke Skywalker can not die. GL will not allow it.

Come guys, what would the SW Universe be with out Luke Skywalker? I know for me, if it wasn't for Luke Skywlaker, I would of never been such a big Star Wars fan as I am now.

Also, it's common sense that Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Solo, C-3PO, R2-D2, Lando, and Wedge, can not die. They are the main characters of Star Wars.

Also, IMHO, GL will never have a OT character die in the EU again. When Chewie died, I bet you GL got a bunch of letters explaining many peoples dis likes with the death of the mighty Chewie. If GL allowed Luke Skywalker to die, he would never see the end of fan letters, that are not really fan letters at all, but letters explaining how GL just destroyed one of the greatest characters of all time and maybe Star Wars itself.

The only possabile way for Luke Skywalker to die is to defeat the badest evil guy know, not Yuuzhan Vong, but someone more evil and more powerful then Emperor Palpatine, probally a sith lord. Then after defeating the sith lord, Luke saves his family, Han, Leia, and finally becomes one with his father and one with the force. Now, the only way this could happen is:

    (A) Ben is all grown up
-So he could contunie the Skywalker Legand

    (B) Mara Jade Skywalker and Ben Skywalker are saved by Luke Skywalker in the end

    (C) Han, Leia, Lando, and the droids are saved by allies (Like in the ROTJ)

    (D) Luke defeats theYuuzhan Vong first
