Rebel Alliance Symbol

Hey All!

This is my first post, and I was really just wondering if anyone knows the meaning behind the symbol for the Rebel Alliance.

Is it just a design, or is there something else behind it?

I haven't been able to find anything on that question.

The rebirth of the Phoenix, representing the cause to restore the Republic. At least it's a real-world explanation.

It is a good question, I have never heard any talk of what it could possibly mean (or the imperial symbol for that matter.) My guess is that they are just symbols which George Lucas thought would be fitting.

I know the in-universe explination of the Imperial symbol is that it's a corruption of the Jedi Order's symbol.

The Jedi symbol is just the Imperial symbol with an extra pair pf bars.

 

The Jedi symbol can be seen in the New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology, and it's a lot like the Rebel alliance symbol.

The circle/spoke symbol is actually that of the Republic. The number of spokes was chosen because 9 is a number sacred to the Jedi (8 spokes and 1 circle).



NP edit: I would advise against using images from sites other than your own if at all possible. You never know what might show up in place of the picture.

 

I could have sworn I'd heard that the Republic symbol was the rocketship-esque logo that stands for the Old Republic period on the Star Wars novels and that the hexogonal one was actually the Jedi Order's logo.

 

Nope. The one with the spokes is on most of the Republic's Clone War equipment, and is the Republic command post in battlefront. The rocketshippy thing is probably the senate insignia.

I had no idea that the Imps took the Jedi symbol and corruptted it. I'd never noticed that before, but it does explain why they do look so similiar.

 

I was wondering if someone had an image of the jedi council symbol- either a link, or a webpage.
I can't seem to find it anywhere. The 2 images I have are, as far as I can tell, of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
