San Fran, CA Rebel Legion and 501st Activities at WonderCon

Hi All

Just thought I'd post a quick update on what the 501s/Rebel Legion have planned for WonderCon.

This is a great opportunity for you Rebels to get your photo taken and to sign up.

Joint 501st and Rebel Legion Fan Area

A combined effort between the RL/501st clubs intended to promote both clubs and as a place to recruit candidates. Stop on by to check out our photo op area and all you costumers can sign up

Club Development Panel

Dan, Chris Williams, 501st Legion XO Tim Knapp will head a discussion on how to develop, maintain and promote fan clubs based on our experience with the 501st. This panel will take place in room 132 on Saturday, April 26, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Costume/Prop Panel

Mark Corey, Chris James, Dan Kim, Richard Jacobsen, Ryan Goff and Laura Ehrlich, on how to develop props and costumes for beginners. This discussion takes place in room 132 on Sunday, April 27, from 11.30am 12:30 PM.


Photo Shoots

The 501st and Rebel Legion will have two separate marches for photo ops on Saturday, April 26. Should you have an imperial and rebel costume, I encourage you to bring both. The Rebel Legion’s shoot will take place first. We will meet by room 114 at 1:30 PM and walk out to our spot at 2 PM. For the 501st march, we will meet by room 114 at 3:30 PM and march out at 4 PM.

Community Service Event with the Zeum, a San Francisco children’s museum

The Zeum, a center designed to help foster the creativity of youth, has invited both legions to help promote their organization on either Saturday and/or Sunday. This facility is just across from Wondercon, located above Moscone South.

Table Signings
We are very happy to announce that we will be having both SW artist Brandon McKinney and behind the scenes author Mark Cotta Vaz at our tables (Booth14 & 16) over the course of the weekend.

Brandon McKinney has illustrated a variety of SW literature from children's coloring books (Jedi Training and Trials Quiz Book) to the miniature official adaptions (The Mighty Chronicles series). In addition to his SW work Brandon has worked on variety of comics including Dark Horse's Godzilla series, ElfQuest, and his own series JourneyMan from Image Comics. Brandon's upcoming work includes Switchblade Honey, an original Graphic Novel with fan favorite Warren Ellis. Brandon will be signing & doing quick sketches on Sun from 2 to 3:30pm.

Mark Cotta Vaz is considered by some to the master of the "Behind the Scenes" genre. From 2002's blockbuster hit movie Spider-Man to the weekly adventures of Sydney Bristow on TV's Alias, Mark has drawn back the curtain on some of most popular movies & TV shows. Among his SW books, Mark has authored The Secrets of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Industrial Light & Magic: Into the Digital Realm, and most recently The Art of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. His latest book, The Invisible Art, with co-author Craig Barron, is the first to take a sustained look at the art and technology of matte painting, a little-known facet of Hollywood illusion. Mark's upcoming works include the Art of Finding Nemo, from this summer's latest film by Pixar. Mark will be signing on Sat from 1 to 2pm.
