Yeah, I think people are being too hard on those episodes too. I think that's because people are still demanding -- although the show has said endlessly it's trying to be more fun like ANH -- that Rebels be like TCW or PT.

I especially enjoyed Fighter Flight -- the Tie sequence was pure fun.

EDIT: I see nothing wrong with lightweight episodes that focus on character. I've studied the response to many TV shows, and I've noticed that fans are often hard on episodes such as these, only years later to look back on them and reevaluate them and enjoy them for what they were.

Same as I felt about TCW at times - I'm not sure what people expect from a kids cg show? I'm not having a dig at anyone who doesn't like it - obviously if it's not working for some it's not working. But I think it's a lot of fun and my kids are having a blast with it.

I think the writers might have introduced the Inquisitor sooner. As a writer I never like to take the audiences patience for granted. Start them with the awesome villain ASAP, IMO. I know the plan was to make his appearances seem special, but you want to grab the audience by the throat early on so they don't forget the experience.

Having said that, since you don't want to overuse the Inquisitor, they need to introduce other threats that feel similarly powerful (dramatically). Kallus worked for me on Droids in Distress, but I can see how others might want more. After all, they're used to Sidious, Maul, Vader, even Grievous.

I liked the way it established Zeb and Ezra's relationship.

I've been wondering the same. I also wonder if she has a little bit of the force flowing through her. Between her & Kanan, she seems more like the wise Jedi.

I really like Hera. Can't really define what it is but there is something about her that really gives off a very positive vibe.

She's the voice of reason & has a lot more faith in Ezra than Kanan does.

Yeah, she's the moral compass. I like her too. Are the group dynamics hugely original? No. But I like them.

Zeb and Ezra stole a Tie Fighter! How is that not awesome!?!?!?!?!?
I am grateful for the light-heartedness of the episodes so far. After TCW it was needed.

Hera is great because she is a mother figure who isn't reduced to being a nag. She is wise and gives good advise, but she is equally defined by her sense of humor and piloting skills.

And both the show and A New Dawn make it clear that she is the leader of the group, no question. I like that not everybody defers to the Jedi by default.

Hera is the Captain and Ghost owner but she's not the group leader, that's Kanan.

I disagree. Especially with the way they are presented in A New Dawn. He may be the tactical mind, and therefor the leader in combat, but she is the founder and leader of the group.

I'm an episode behind everybody, though, so maybe I am missing some clear signs otherwise.

Well, I'm halfway through A New Dawn, and Kanan is just a drinker who moves from world to world until he meets Hera. She's the one who passes on a sense of responsibility to him and turns him into a rebel. She's already working against the Empire when we meet her, so I think we have to see her as one of the leaders of the team. Kanan obviously is in charge when the fighting starts however, but Hera and Kanan seem to be co-leaders when it comes to strategy.

I don't know if Count Vidian survives A New Dawn yet, but if he does, love to see his gruesome visage on the show.
