When you stack it up like that, the pitiful dearth of EU in A New Dawn sounds kind of funny.

A New Dawn's plot is a lot more localized than those books though. Those books are larger in scope. Makes sense there would be more references.

I know, it just gave me laugh with that little periodic table there.

I'm hoping that it's an ancestor of humans that invented hyperdrives in the new canon instead of the Rakata. Ancient aliens is a sci-fi cliche that doesn't belong in Star Wars.

    Fixed
I don't agree but it become a bit irritating when the groups like Rakata and Kwa seems to be superior in nearly everything, they know Force secrets that no one else have figured out, created stuff that are baffling modern GFFA science were able to do thing that is impossible for todays people, etc.
I can accept if there is some ancient high knowledge that is baffling the modern society but when nearly everything they did is superior it became boring.

It would be nice if tOR or DotJ come with a list that explained why all this high-tech we don't see in the movie is not used in the modern GFFA, ex. they emit harmful radiation; create a hole in space-time that invites lovecraftian things; need constant sacrifices of blood and life to work, etc.

^This. Ancient aliens are great for flavoring but they were definitely being overused by the end. I love learning about pre-Republic civilizations but at the same time not everything in the modern era needs to be traceable back to them.

Aside from Denning, this seems to be mostly traceable to KOTOR and TOR, for the understandable reason that "Hunt For Uber-Powerful Artifact" is a classic game trope and easily explainable to casual players who don't want to spend hours researching machinations between the Hutts and the Bounty Hunters' Guild or whatever.

You do realize that by doing this, it would be the exact same trope, just where humans are the ancient aliens who invent hyperdrive to the rest of the galaxy?

Well, humans have been continuously part of the Republic since that time. The trope relies on the aliens going extinct or disappearing for generations before their secrets are rediscovered.

I never liked the idea that the Rakata used to the Force to create hyperdrives and light speed. Why couldn't it just be that some great scientists came up with the technology for lightspeed? I prefer Star Wars tech to be science based not magic based.

Me too. Involving The Force in everything dilutes it (The Force).

I mostly agree but I rather like the ide of a group that are navigating through hyperspace by using the Force.

An obvious one but the character RX-24 from Star Tours, and I believe it is the same model ship, though it may have a different name. Still it is the same droid that took us all over the galaxy. :) (Sorry if he has been said.)

I don't think that was Rex, but it was certainly the same model of droid. The ship was different as well, although the paint scheme was similar and flight number (ST-45) was the same.

It is 100% confirmed to be RX-24, the same character from Star Tours. :) I believe it is in the Rebels visual guide but also here. :)

It says a nod to Rex, but since he shares the same name I think it is the same character but isn't. Like how Wicket in episode VI and in the Ewok movies are not the same. Though that is just how I see. :p Either way the droid model is the same in the new canon, though with the same name I believe he is the same. :)

Also, cool to see a Galaxies nod, of all things.

They did not canonize "Star Tours," though. Although the company already is canon in some form, since it was mentioned in a poster in TCW.

The EU went out of its way to squeeze the 2nd Ewok movie into the post-Hoth period - in the Illustrated Star Wars Universe they had the Imperial expedition make use of Hoth surplus survival gear, and meet Charal and Terak.
