Hey all. I filmed a movie last week in the late afternoon and evening. A couple shots towards the end have that perfect, "golden hour" look to them that I want to recreate through the rest of the film.

Is there a way in post-production to achieve that sort of color temperature of 8:30 in the evening with something shot at around 5:00 in the afternoon?

I'm away from AE at the moment, but it seems to me that the basic starting point would be layers of orange, and maybe a bit of blue for the sky, comp'd and tracked over the footage with one of them Overlay or Multiply or Soft Light type of transfer modes. Like how you might shoot with a filter over the camera lens, but with the filter added in post, heh. :p

I've never used AE's color correctors but FCP's have helped me tweak a look or two in the past, maybe there is something similar.

I had a quick go using AE's colour correction tools and some solid layers, and came up with this:

I'm not sure if that's what you're after, but here's the process anyway:

    1) Colour balance footage Shadow Red 20, Shadow Green 19, Shadow Blue -11, Highlight Green 8, Highlight Blue -50. Leave Preserve Luminosity OFF.
    2) Hue/Saturation adjustment to completely desaturate blues, -100.
    3) Curves adjustment - Very slightly arch the red curve upwards, and the master RGB curve downwards, with a single point.
    4) Orage solid on top, transfer mode set to Overlay, with opacity of 50%
    5) A simple gradient of light blue and light orange set to "Multiply" mode to add some subtle colour to the sky, opacity of 15%. This might need some simple roto to stop it interefing with bright foreground highlights, depending on your shot.

You might want to add some more contrast, and desaturate the whole thing slightly - whatever floats your boat. This isn't particularly in-depth, but I think it works.

Wow, thanks! That helps a ton. And hey, if the effect to add color to the sky affects the light glares off of the vehicles, then it's a sky reflection off of them. :)
