Red Leader and Anakin...?

Someone has been trying to tell me that the following lines of dialog were in the orginal (pre SE) version of Star Wars ANH...

(extract below froma copy of the 4th revision script online here )

RED LEADER: Are you...Luke Skywalker? Have you been checked out on the
Incom T-sixty-five?

BIGGS: Sir, Luke is the best bushpilot in the outer rim territories.

Red Leader pats Luke on the back as they stop in front of
his fighter.

RED LEADER: I met your father once when I was just a boy, he was a
great pilot. You'll do all right. If you've got half of your father's
skill, you'll do better than all right.

LUKE: Thank you, sir. I'll try.

Red Leader hurries to his own ship.

BIGGS: I've got to get aboard. Listen, you'll tell me your stories
when we come back. All right?

LUKE: I told you I'd make it someday, Biggs.

BIGGS: (going off) You did, all right. It's going to be like old
times, Luke. We're a couple of shooting stars that'll never be
stopped!

I don't recall those lines from Red Leader at all... can you experts give me the low down?

 

I am not sure if those lines were ever filmed. But they were in the original SW novel.

 

That's what I thought. I'll wait on a couple more experts to show up before I go back and say "ner ner ner" to my scholarly friend.

 

An issue of SCI-FI WORLD that I have has an article on scenes that were cut from all three films, and it mentions Red Leader's cut dialogue. It says:

". . . there was an additional scene with Biggs cut from the Rebel base sequence before the attack on the Death Star, a scene mostly restored in the new version of the film. A small amount of dialogue was cut out of the scene as included in the Special Edition, for reasons one can only speculate as having to do with the storyline of the upcoming prequels. This seems likely because the edited line, spoken by Red Leader, mentions Luke's father."

It then gives the dialogue, which I won't retype since it's in the original post.

 

It was filmed, but wasn't in the original. When the scene was inserted in the SE that line was cut out. Look at the R2 to the right.

 

those lines were in the marvel comics adaptation of a new hope. deleted red leader scene
i can't imagine how they were in the novel being that in the novel there is no red leader. luke is in blue squadron.

 

In the novel, it was probably Blue Leader who said it, since Blue was just changed to Red in the final screenplay.

Lord_Coras - What's that about the R2 unit?

 

It changes places. You can see the cut.

EDIT: I can't believe I've never noticed that before!! The cut is hidden with the insertion of someone walking in front the camera. Not only does R2 suddenly rise about three feet, but even the position of Luke's head changes just slightly.
