Lets just say that rain + tarps (no 'leakage' holes) + inflexible metal joints (as opposed to flexible thick rubber) was not good. Lucky the $20000+ of audio equipment underneath was okay. It did survive about half a dozen raves, several test assembles/disassembles, and a trip to the Victorian countryside where it lasted a 7 day NYE 2000 party with 10000+ people present.

Anyways, back on topic...Kennards and Rennicks do have some really solid marquee type things that I've hired before for Pedal Prix events at Murray Bridge (to house 50ish people). Quite expensive, but I'm sure SAFF wouldn't need anything that big. There's also some decent small marquee options (anyone going to Head of the River on Saturday at West Lakes will see plenty) that aren't too much at all to hire (or even buy). They open up really easily and are pretty straightforward to transport (ute or 4wd). My work has several in fact....hmmmm.... ;)

FWIW, I think the city Relay for Life is on this weekend, I'm going to swing by if I get a chance (is it at Santos?).

But I really like geodesic domes...must investigate further...

Just my 2 cents worth on the whole 501st, SAFF and HP teams, i would be up for taking 2 costumes anyway, one for SAFF/501st and one for HP.

Not really fussed what team i would be in either.

i have an idea for the SAFF baton for next year.

how about a plaster made SAFF that we can carry around?

    SAFF = Star Wars

If you want to involve Harry Potter with this, join the Harry Potter Forums & ask if they'd like to be involved.

I'd rather have a squid jag inserted in a private place than water down the SAFF participation with Harry Potter carp....

The 501st will rise to the occasion next year.

    =D=

Really glad to hear that about the 501st. I hope that we can get a 501st team AND a SAFF team next year. If we had a third team with SAFF members for Harry Potter, it'd not be under the SAFF banner which is what I was trying to say the other night.

I just hope that SAFF will still have enough members to field a team if a number of people defect to the HP team. I wouldn't wish to see less than the 20 SW costumed characters like this year. It robs the event of the colour & vibrancy that we bring every year. But like I said, if people want to field a HP team, they can, but SAFF IS SW.

    awesome DV :D

    Lightsaber vs Wand.... no contest.

That could be the HP team name - The SA Wand Wavers.

I said that also. It'd make it look a lot less visually stunning, having said that, people are free to chose whatever they want to, but if they are representing SAFF they are representing SW. It's who we are, it's what we do.:)

    definately.

I think that is what everyone was saying to be honest cos i know that some of the HP supporters had suggested being under a complete different team but just using SAFF as a meeting place to discuss happenings.

so all in all we were all arguing the same point to each other :p

    yes "Billywigs"

I did mention if they wanted to field a team and/or form a team with the Costumers Guild I'd support that whole heartedly. My cocern is looking after SAFF's best interest. I can't & don't want to control what other groups do. I'm just looking out for SAFF.

That's fine :) Myself and several other members have allegiances to other fandoms as well. We enjoy costuming for more than one.

I had to have SP explain the name to me, but then again I'm not a HP fan and don't claim to be one.

Still, hopefully we'll be able to get 10 HP's, 10 501st & 10 SAFF for next years relay, but that might be overly optamistic.

When you only support the Jedi, multi costuming in SW is impossible...
Unless your Luke Skywalker who had an entire fashion wardrobe.....
That's why it rocks being an Imperial.... so many armoured suits to choose from.
    And they all look great.
