    Thread Necromancy!

    Meet Cryo Squad.
    [image=http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b193/theplasticwerks2/deltademo1.jpg]

    I took Tau and Rho squads and picked out my favorite names from both and added another. Call 'em an Omega-esque leftovers squad, call them a new squad, whatever. They are...

    RC-01/200 "Zero" (Commander, POV)
    RC-01/222 "Deuce" (in place of Fixer, squad recon/)
    RC-01/220 "Icer" (in place of Scorch, squad demo/slicer)
    RC-01/203 "Oath" (in place of Sev, squad sniper/support)

    Yes, these are all game skins I made myself. I simply recolored the Demolition (Scorch) skin and added color on the faceplate. They used to use Ranger (Fixer) skins, but I didn't like how that turned out...

    [image=http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b193/theplasticwerks2/deltanew1.jpg]

    Notice they're identical regardless of which version of the skin. I figure Cryo would be a little more rigid that Delta or Omega, so while they do paint their armor, they use a unified scheme.

    Awesome!

    First of all: great name for your Squad! Cyro just fits perfectly!
    I love your first skins... they look even more cool when they have all the same color scheme. The second (or first, guess you made the lower ones, first) version doesn't look so good... rather lame, actually. But as I said, the upper version rocks! Just one hint what could improve that: the visor's have a bit too dark blue in comparison to the rest of the armor - give them an icy blue, and they rule!

    Great job, again! I really love what you did, I wish I could modify the game's skins the way you do...

    Modfying the skins isn't too hard. The hardest part is actually making the skins, everything else is pretty easy.

    Though Cryo does sound icy (and there's a reason one member is named Icer), I believe that Cryo is the Star Wars military phoenetic for the letter C :p (ditto, Bacta for B, etc.).

    As to the visor, I was thinking about brightening the glow so it matches the rest of the Deltas' gear (like the glowing strips on Scorch's...pylon things).

    Mhh.. yeah, you gotta tell me that sometime, how I can upload new skins to the game... :p

    Oh, well... I read the title wrong... I read "Cyro" and not "Cryo"... my mistake [face_blush]

    Yeah, that's just what I meant. ;)

    Well, we're all about making art here, so here's the rundown.

    In your Republic Commando>System folder, you'll find an executable called "UnrealEd". This is the game editor. Open it up and look for the texture editor (should be in the row of buttons). Then, open up CloneTextures.utx from the default directory that will open up. Use the drop-down menu to select CloneTextures, then click on each of the textures (not the shaders!) and export them somewhere. I export them as .pcx, but I think any image format will do.

    Modify your skin in your program of choice. Then, save it under the same name (CloneCommando##, where the numbers match the numbers of the Commandos). It's safe to save as .bmp, because I know the editor can import those. Simply import them and overwrite the old ones. Oh, keep a backup around just in case.

    You can also get to the multiplayer skins this way. So, if you want, simply export, rename, import, and you can have Night Ops or Recon in single player!

    Aye, thanks! :) I'll get to that sometime, but at the moment, RC isn't even installed on my PC... [face_whistling] [face_blush] :p

    But again, thank you very much! This'll help a lot! :)

    RC-4077 "Hawkeye" - Pulling double duty as squad medic and sniper, Hawkeye seems to solve the conflict with a sarcasm-laden sense of humor. An expert prankster and card shook, he's the team's morale-booster. LOL, love the homage. Hawkeye is the best and reminds me of myself

    Aggh ... so much for my plans of reposting those pics in color ... maybe someday. Raptor, Tiger, and A-10's Phase 2 armor have been sculpted, though, so I may look into taking digital shots of those. I'm a much better sculptor than sketch artist.

    Have done some edits to the concepts:

    -changed A-22 Raptor's jetpack to the Arakyd Whisper instead of the Mitronomon Z-6, sidearms to ARC DC-17 pistols

    -Rho Squad is now Kua Squad (RC-6850 "Five-O," RC-6803 "Stitch," RC-6888 "Tiger," RC-6827 "Riff")

    -Kappa Squad is now Haka Squad (RC-4086 "Mak", RC-4103 "Bluey," may select two others from prior pool)

    -Tiger and Mak both carry the T-21 light repeating blaster in lieu of DC-17m, may change other RCs to ARC M5 rifle in lieu of Deece

    -may cut A-10's nickname down to Thun (clone nicknames seem to be down to about 1-2 syllables), using cartoon ARC armor as template (shorter kama, collarpiece-style pauldron, flip-up rangefinder instead of monocle), probably ditching the fancy color scheme in favor of lieutenant's blues, giving him a nonissue DT-57 sidearm, have sculpted him in Phase 2 Parjai-style armor

    Someday to get to:

    -Sergeant Xyrin and Sergeant Tynar, trainers for Kua and Haka

    -camoflage Phase 1 concepts for the troopers of the 151st Vanguard Legion, possibly including gunship paint schemes at they are an air cavalry unit

    -may concept-sketch another ARC (A-66[?] Reaper) and more RCs (possibly new Rho and Kappa along with Tau Squad)

    Nice to hear from you, Alion! Lookin' forward to updates from you. :D

    I myself have finally re-installed RepCom on my PC and, thanks to twong, got my first ingame skin of Havoc Squad leader 'Tracyn' workin:

    [image=http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/1875/tracyningame43zn.jpg] [image=http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/7472/tracyningame19el.jpg]

    The skin is currently on Fixer's model, and I still have to do some detail-adjustments, but overall, I'm very content.

    Anybody who's insterested in playing 'Tracyn' ingame, feel free to contact me via PM. ;)

    Thanks again to twong, here goes my whole Havoc Squad ingame for Republic Commando:

    [image=http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/1671/havocsquadmeeting4gb.jpg]

    And the following links for each single member:

    RC-1776 'Tracyn' - squad leader
    RC-5665 'Ceptor' - second-in-command
    RC-1355 'Cyph'
    RC-2398 'Nate

    The quality of the screens is pretty bad, but it's not the skins, I promise. ;)
    For more on Havoc Squad, either read my fanfic or see a few pages earlier where I posted short profiles of them.

    And if you want to play Havoc Squad, feel free to PM me. ;)

    And one more kick-ass screen of Tracyn: http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/4317/trace68ff.jpg

    Hey what is Corel Photo Paint? Because i would really like to do some of my own because I love Rc and have my own site and is currently make a clone army type thing and i would like to make some squads. And also when you give them a name do they have to match to there number because i saw that Laubi had match the numbers to the letters?

    Very cool images there Corran! And I'd be interested the the program you're using, as well--is it a sister program of Painter...? Just curious! Very nice work!

    Hey, those guys look phreeking cool. :cool: I think Tracyn is my favourite as I really like how the colours came out on him as well as the overall design. It reminds me of those bodysuits on MX racers and such. You mentioned above that there's more info about them in your fanfic. Does that mean that Havoc Squad is your own creation? Or is it an existing Squad in the SWU. (Sorry - I have absolutely no knowledge about any type of troopers in general) Anywho, I think they look great. :D

    Thanks, glad you like 'em. I haven't seen any mods or patches for RepCom around, and I think it'd be difficult for you to use the ones I made--apart from the fact that I won't give 'em away. See twong's posts above on how to make those skins.

    Thank you, too, FF! :) Well, Corel Photo Paint is rather like Photoshop, than it is like Painter. It's just Corel's "version" of the Photoshop clones, like all the Jasc Paint Shop and all that stuff. I wouldn't say sister program to Painter, because Painter has more the interface of Photoshop, unlike Photo Paint^^. And besides, the skins were made with Photoshop, but all the older images with Corel PP, because back then, I only had PP. But once I got PS CS2, I jumped over at once, due to PS being just waaaaaay better.

    Thank you, Suz, I'm glad you like 'em. :) And yep, Tracyn is also my favorite, mainly because he'd be my "alter-ego", and the (aborted) fanfic I wrote of Havoc Squad was from his POV. And yes, Havoc Squad is my own creation. ;)
