PT Rethink Your Life: A New Hope - PT Social Thread

Since the topic of genealogies seems to have resurfaced, I'll contribute a bit. I'm mostly descendant from Spaniards, ( maybe some Native American in there, you never know ) but am also 1/16 Dutch that came through one of the Caribbean islands I believe.

Umm, hate to say it, but I did not care for Paranormal Activity. It utilizes herky jerky found footage style camerwork and the two main characters are unlikable, especially Micah. The film is 76 minutes too long. The only scares/suspense occur in the final 10 minutes. I will not be watching any sequels.

Insidious, on the other hand was really good. I liked the actors, the sets and the high pitched violin score was terrifying. Reminded my of Bartok's and Penderezski's music from The Shining.
I thought Insidious was very suspenseful and one of the better 'newer' films I've seen in that genre. I will be checking out the sequels/prequels at some point.

I have not seen Don't Breathe.

Yes! My thoughts exactly, but no one else has ever agreed with me, lol. The first Paranormal Activity isn't as outright terrifying as it is annoying because I can't stand the couple in the movie.

Micah is an unsympathetic dweeb who has his camcorder out all the time, and he tapes his wife constantly, even when she's obviously distressed (or, like, comatose) and the girl (Sarah? Jessica? I can't remember her name) whines and cries through the first 75% of the movie... and then... well... And the ending is among the dumbest endings to a movie I've ever seen. Probably the second-dumbest. It's basically good for a few jump scares and that's it. I didn't see it in theaters, but I had friends in high school who did, and they really hyped it up. So I first saw it on the small screen, and the atmospheric horror (which the commercials made out to be the impetus of the movie) is muted or even nonexistent. It was like those Ghost Hunters shows that always seem so phony.

If you'll bear with me, the second Paranormal Activity is a lot better. A lot better. It's a meatier story and it explains some things from the first one. But I haven't seen any of the other movies in the series.

 

Eh, I seem to be the only one here who doesn't like horror movies

 

I don't like horror movies either, but that's not to say I've never seen any.

 

Paranormal Activity is not a horror movie. It's a fake, lame documentary about two unlikable people. Lol.

 

The only horror movie I've ever seen is the Conjuring - it wasn't bad, had a good story, but I didn't exactly enjoy the experience.

Dagobahsystem totally agree about Paranormal Activity

 

I feel it will hold back where as BvS took some huge risks.. For an example I feel the tone will be forced light.. Just how I feel..

A character I'm writing in a fanfic. And there's more than a 99% chance both what I'm working on and Death Note took the name Shinigami from the same source mythology

 

Insidious was really good. Highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

 

I've never bothered to watch the Paranormal Activity movies.

I don't either. I don't hate 'em but I don't like 'em either except for Ridley Scott's Alien and Covenant. But other than that I pretty much never go out of my way to watch horror.

I wouldn't say I don't like them, but I've yet to find a good horror movie. Four classic ones come to my mind, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, Carrie and The Shining. I don't think any of them was particularly scary. For me, real horror movies are those about actual life horrors, like Requiem for a Dream. It's pretty much the scariest one I've ever seen, along with the French movie Irreversible.

Alien franchise is awesome, but that's SF imo.
