Return of the Defenders of the A&P Love Story (Part 2)

Welcome, Katana_Geldar, it's always nice to see a new face.

I'm not one to bring too much attention to myself. I mean, this is the anonymous Internet. I'm not out to cultivate e-celebrity here. We have enough "celebrities" in this world to pack the Circles of Hell to standing room only.

But I just happened to miss my JC Anniversary, which, in some fashion, is like an e-birthday for most people. So, in celebration of the spacious new digs and the honor of having posted with you fine gentleman and ladies the past year, I thought I would "bless" you all with a special post dedicated to all the misanthropes, raving lunatics, demented social outkasts, eccentric personalities, and hallucinogenic ego projections who have provided hours and hours of riveting entertainment over the past year. Star Wars fandom would suffer without you.

I will get to the gratitude a little later, but I thought I might amuse this thread with a tale of magic and wonder that will stretch the imagination and explore the boundaries of human possibility.




It would be useful to picture yourself in a tiny little basement rec room, tucked away in the bowels of a church of unsignified denomination, surrounded by fellow sufferers of an affliction with the abominable moniker of Serendipity. It is a frightful place, capable of challenging the mightiest resolves of the human soul, turning prophets into fools, scholars into dunces, and striking afoot any claim to real wisdom in the universe. I was called there one day. This is important to note. There is no choice, rhyme, or reason in the matter. You are at the behest of powerful forces, beyond the understanding of the limited human intellect. I was not alone in the room. There were others there too, though they remained as puzzled as I to their purpose here, meandering about like cattle in an open field. There was also an air of non-recognition, the indifference one encounters on public transportation, or lost on a busy street corner. Quick glances and casual conversation sprinkled the stale air, breaking the awkward silences every teenager grows to fear.

In hindsight, the next moment of my time there was no different then any previous one. It was strikingly ordinary. Out of the corner of my eye, I catch this alluring vision wandering through the crowd. I?m affable on my better days, so I say hello, and innocently strike up a causal conversation to break the monotony. My Spanish inquisition presses on?she presses back. The stop light glows a bright green, so I roll down this street, as the air is inviting, the neon lights warm and buzzing with possibility.

The staleness that hovers inside the room is blown away, as the Holy Ghost whispers in. The souls of believers bathe in fire, while the agnostics and atheists swat away at this bothersome Ghost. I was blessed enough to be caught in the rapture, as was my casual acquaintance of five minutes. We spoke in many different tongues, each thick with the fervent hysteria of revelation. And still, the non-believers looked slightly annoyed.
Rapture is a timeless exercise, so it?s difficult to say how long I was enraptured; months perhaps passed by before my soul reincorporated with its earthly form. That moment was a revelation as well. There are many opportunities in life where we recognize our Self, the driver in our chariot of life, but rarely are we graced by the presence of our Other, the golden rose of sunrise and sunset rising from the horizon to meet us as we move through the misty dusk and back to the piercing rays of a new dawn. Standing twice-blessed in awe of all my eyes had seen; then, kneeling humbly as all must, in deference to all things holy.

Not a day has passed since, where I do not pray to be worthy of the gift I have received. And I pray as well that you may one day experience the same?







Many thanks to all the Defenders who have passed by this way again and again. You are responsible for the construction of a unique shrine in the cold, empty space of the internet, which will burn bright as long as love can find its sanctuary here.

As for all the football talk, my heart lies with my Herd. Even though we get ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT nationally...

We don't get to play Notre Dame or anybody like that. This year we've got Ohio State, Tennessee,and Miami. Should be interesting, no? I guess we'll see what we're made of.

BTW I agree w/ Anakin_Player, "Seabiscuit" was a wonderful movie. If you're depressed or feeling down- go see it, it'll bring a lump into your throat and leave you cheering

Jeff Bridges reminded me of when he played Tucker in GL's rarely remembered but lovely film "Tucker a Man and His Dream." He was superb.
