I think all of the ships are great and symbolize different stages of Mara's life.

The Fire was hers and hers alone, the Saber was a symbol of her embracing love (Luke was the first person she really let in) and the Shadow is a symbol of friendship since the entire gang chipped in.

 

What wonderful insights Hazel & how cool that the Shadow's presence in FoTJ is used in such a way.

As to the sporadic hints LOL -- those are fun to get and for fanfic to expound on or go in a different direction altogether.

 

I wonder if there will be any hints in Choices of One?

 

It was actually the authors discussing the way Mara's ship was used that convinced me to give FotJ a try (that and all the praise on the Luke/Ben relationship). It made me glad that they're not just forgetting that she ever existed. Of course, whenever Luke and Ben talk about her it makes me cry.

It's funny, because as much as I think Mara's death sucked and as many AUs as I write, I think I've come to terms with her death in canon. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not dying for more Mara books.

So my boyfriend and I are moving in together, and he's encouraged me to embrace my Mara Jade dorkiness and put up all the Mara sketches I've collected over the years. This was all spawned by the meeting of Adam Hughes, and the subsequent urging to commission a sketch.

Hey Mazzic - I wasn't aware that you were the one who did the art of Mara in the Jedi robes - I love that picture! It's one of my favorites of her! If I can stop being so lazy, I'm going to try to put together a costume based on that artwork for Dragon*Con. I already have the lightsaber!

 

Awesome sketches.

Having Mara's ship be the ship that Luke and Ben travel on in FOTJ is so touching. It's like even though she is dead, the authors, and Luke and Ben haven't forgotten her. I pretty much screamed when Abeloth briefly stole it.

Mara is mentioned, very briefly, in a scene in Conviction (I have yet to finish the book, so it might not be the only one). It is short, but I found it such a powerful moment between Luke and Ben, I almost cried.

 

I would love to see John and Jan craft a Mara Jade mini-series.

 

That was an awesome pic! I'm not always a big Duursema fan - but her style has perfect dynamic for Mara! I'd love to see such a series too!
