    Chapter 5

The Jedi Council had convened no longer then ten minutes when they received word that Wrev Caster was done with his "debriefing" and rested and healthy enough to meet with them. It had been two days since Wrev had arrived on Mon Calamari with the Yuuzhan Vong shamed one and Kyp had heard nothing about her since then. When he tried to speak with Dif Scaur about it, he and the Intelligence Director butted heads once again.

Kyp never liked the idea of having non-Jedi bureaucrats on the council, and he hated it more with each meeting. At least Corran and Kyp were getting along. Kyp had never cared much for the older Jedi and it was no secret that Corran disliked him, as many people did, but since Borleias, Corran seemed to treat him more like a comrade and less like a rival.

Placing Corran on the Jedi Council was no surprise; He had been in Skywalker's favor for sometime, and Kyp was beginning to see why. Corran was both experienced and wise. What did surprise him was Luke placing Kyp in charge of the council in his absence and not Clighal. He imagined he was not the only one who had been surprised by that.

"I would like to remind everyone that the GFI is not obligated to share any of the information we learn from the Yuuzhan Vong captive with this Council. You should be grateful we are allowing Wrev Caster to appear here," Said Scaur.

"Wrev Caster is a Jedi Knight, we never need your permission to speak with him, and the shamed one is hardly a captive," Kyp countered.

The impending argument was interrupted when the outer door to the council chamber slid open. Two large GFI security agents escorted Wrev into the room.

He was clean-shaven and his hair had been trimmed, but still hung into his brown eyes, and curled at the ends, more so in the back. Wrev's face looked fuller and healthier then it had when Kyp saw him step out of the shuttle. The Jedi wore a full brown Jedi cloak and sand colored robes. It was more like the Wrev Kyp remembered, but still different...As he turned to face the Jedi on the council Kyp caught sight of the gleaming lightsaber hilt on his left hip.

Clighal spoke first. "Welcome Wrev Caster, it is a pleasure to see you again."

"I am honored to attain you audience;" Wrev answered and gave a bow.

"You are always welcome to it, Wrev," Corran said,"You're a Jedi Knight after all." Corran didn't sound as confident in the second part.

"Thank you. I don't mean to be discourteous, but I was hoping that Master Skywalker would be here. I believe he would want to hear what I have to say."

"Master Skywalker has left on an important mission. It is unknown when he will return," said President Cal Omas. "Rest assured that what you have to say will be heard by this council, regardless of his absence."

"What kind of mission?" Wrev asked.

Everyone in the room became uneasy by the Jedi's question. Could they trust him enough to divulge the nature of Luke's mission?

"It's top secret," Kenth Hamner cut in. "I'm sorry, but it can not be discussed." The older Jedi Master was a retired military colonel and had a way of letting people know not to pry into something, “top secret”, further then they already had.

    "Very well," Wrev conceded.

"We're anxious to here your tale Wrev Caster," said Minister of State Releqy A'kla. The Caamasi was the daughter of the late Elegos A'Kla.

"Where should I begin?" Wrev asked.

"We last heard you were on Ryloth, why don't you start from there," Kyp answered.

"And try not to leave anything out," Diff Scaur said snidely.

"Please excuse Director Scaur," Tresina Lobi interjected. Normally a very reserved Jedi Master, Tresina seemed to be growing as agitated with Scaur as Kyp was.

Wrev nodded, “Alright, I was on Ryloth around the time we lost Duro. I was doing what I could to get the native population of Twi'leks off plant when the Yuuzhan Vong invaded. I waited there a little to long and was stuck when the Yuuzhan Vong took control of the planet."

"Not to break your momentum, but any information you have about Hutt space would be much appreciated by the military. We have been unable to get the slightest bit of information out of their systems since they were lost," said Commander Sien Sovv.

"I don't know much, but I would be happy to tell you about it at another time."

    Sien Sovv nodded in thanks.

    "Go on Wrev," Corran encouraged.

“I managed to stowaway on a Yuuzhan Vong craft and only ended up farther in enemy space, Garqi.” Wrev continued.

Kyp glanced at Corran Knowing he had been on Garqi shortly before the fall of Ithor.

"Once there, I managed to fall in with the small resistance movement on the planet."

"When Corran was there," Clighal started," the Yuuzhan Vong were experimenting with coral implants and slave soldiers. Is that still the case?"

"It was when I arrived. A little over a year ago, much of the Yuuzhan Vong forces left the system. I learned that they were headed for Yuuzhan'tar," Wrev answered.

The Wookie Senator Triebakk growled, and his translation droid, M-CT, interrupted. "Councilor Triebakk wishes to inform you that the world the Yuuzhan vong call Yuuzhan'tar is actually Coruscant."

"Yes, I am aware of that. Thanks you," said Wrev. Kyp knew that Wrev was originally from Coruscant, and that it must be painful for him to think about. "But from what I've heard, the world no longer resembles our beloved capital."

"That is true," Ta'laam Ranth agreed. The Gotal Senator continued. “We have had an investigative team on the planet as well as the information we received from Jacen Solo.”

Wrev looked relieved. "Jacen is alive then? I had heard stories, very few of them sounded survivable...That is good news."

"Yes, Jacen is very much still with us, but accompanying Master Skywalker at the moment," Kyp said.

"This one wishes to hear of what happened on Garqi," said Tesar Sebatyne. The young Jedi Knight had been chosen by his mother, at least that's what Kyp thought Saba was to Tesar, as her alternate. Despite his age, it was thought that he would be able to represent his mother while she was away with Luke Skywalker, because of the unique bond Barabel share. Kyp liked the young Barabel, even if he didn't understand his jokes.

"On a routine reconnaissance mission, I came across a small group of Yuuzhan Vong shamed ones," Wrev continued. "I was surprised that they recognized my lightsaber, and identified me as a Jedi. Even more surprising, was that they think of Jedi as god-like and believe we will bring them salvation. Apparently this stems from a story about Anakin Solo and a shamed one named Vua Rapuung."

Corran nodded, "Yes, I heard this tale from a shamed one named Taan when Anakin, Tahiri, and I hijacked a Yuuzhan Vong ship headed for Yag'Dhul."

Kyp and the rest of the council had heard the remarkable story from Corran already...Kyp sincerely missed Anakin Solo, he was a great Jedi.

"Then you understand," Wrev went on. The council's interruptions didn't seem to throw him off. "They tell other tales as well. A few more about Anakin, and I have heard one about Jacen and Ganner Rhysode."

"Perhaps you could spare us the stories and get to the point, Caster," Dif Scaur snarled. Scaur was clearly agitated by any attempt to empathize with the Yuuzhan Vong. Kyp could understand his point of view, but he knew that Scaur wanted to release the virus alpha red on the Vong, which would kill them all. All of the Jedi on the council were united in opposing its use.

"The stories are the point Director Scaur;" Wrev didn't miss a beat. "The shamed ones believe we can save them and I believe this will be a vital asset in defeating the Yuuzhan Vong."

    "How?" Asked Releqy A'kla.

“Simple,” Wrev stated. “We use them against the Vong.”

Scaur looked as if he was going to speak but was cut off by Tresina Lobi. "Besides what might be a moral question of pretending to be gods when we are not, what makes you think the shamed ones would actually turn on the higher castes?"

Wrev smiled. "The fact that I have seen it done."

The room fell silent. "On Garqi we were able to use the shamed ones to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong on the planet. The shamed ones not only provided information and supplies, but also fought side by side with the Garqian resistance."

"Garqi has been liberated," asked Cal Omas.

"More or less," Wrev admitted. "Being so deep in Yuuzhan Vong controlled space they're not exactly free, but we wiped out all the Vong forces before I left. Unfortunately, they're are no open hyperspace lanes for the survivors to escape the planet."

"Which begs the question of how you were able to get to Mon Calamari in an old Tie Bomber," Supreme Commander Sien Sovv pointed out.

Wrev laughed. "Yes, well, that is not the ship I used. We were able to hijack a small Yuuzhan Vong scout ship and hide the Bomber inside, after outfitting it with a hyperdrive. I guess I'm not the best mechanic because it blew after the jump into Mon Cal. I wanted to fit as many refugees into the craft as possible, but none wanted to abandon the planet, and we were having trouble finding any craft big enough that were still space-worthy."

"Why not bring more then one shamed one then?" Asked Senator Ranth.

"Besides the bomber being a two-seater, it was my decision," Wrev conceded. "The shamed ones on Garqi are loyal to us and I didn't want to bring anymore than were necessary into a hostile situation. I didn't really know what shape the New Republic was in when I left Garqi, and didn't know how a shamed on would be received. In fact, I have not had an opportunity to speak to Eiia since I arrived, and am having serious doubts as to whether I should have brought her at all;" He glared at Dif Scaur.

Scaur was again cut-off, this time by Clighal. "Wrev, did you promise these beings redemption?"

    "No."

"Then why would they fight for you? Why would...Eia, agree to come to Mon Calamari?" Clighal's watery eyes scrutinized the young Jedi.

"They had questions about the Jedi. I told them we are not gods. When they asked if we would redeem them, I said it was possible; and I believe it is. Perhaps we truly will save them."

"I don't think we can misrepresent ourselves this way. It's deceitful." Clighal said.

"It's really not much different from what Jaina was doing at Hapes and Borleias," Kyp argued. "Perhaps it's nobler."

    "Explain, please," Clighal inquired.

"When Jaina declared herself Yun-Harla, she was deliberately leading the Yuuzhan Vong into traps so we could kill them. What Wrev is suggesting would be freeing the innocent," Kyp answered.

Corran and Tesar both nodded in agreement, but Kyp was unable to discern what the other three Jedi were thinking.

"I brought Eiia here, because I knew you have not been able to take a live Yuuzhan Vong captive. She will give the New Republic... Sorry, the Galactic Federation, whatever help she can,” Wrev assured.

Cal Omas looked thoughtful. "It's hard to believe that mere stories, whispered among a repressed class could cause an all-out rebellion."

"That is actually something else I wished to discuss," Wrev said. "It has come to my attention that in the last two months or so, the shamed ones have become...organized."

    "How so?" Asked Kenth Hamner.

"They have a leader of sorts."

"Do you have a name? Location?"

"He calls himself Yu'shaa the prophet. I believe he is on Yuuzhan'tar," Wrev stated, pushing a lock of hair out of his eye.

As Cal Omas began to ask a question Kyp noticed Wrev become distracted. He was reaching out with the force...towards the security guards! Wrev took a step towards them, and two razor bugs came flying at his face. In one amazing flash he ignited his blue blade and cut both bugs out of the air.

As Kyp leapt from his chair and drew his own saber he saw a Yuuzhan Vong Coufee also thrown and quickly batted away by Wrev. Corran was already battling the one to the right of the door, and Kyp engaged the one to the left.

The security guards ooglith masquer peeled away and the warrior's amphistaff slithered to his right hand and became ridged. Kyp made a wide slash at his ribs from the right, which the warrior quickly blocked. He spun around, pivoting on his left foot, and sliced his blade through his opponent’s right knee. As the warrior stumbled he brought his amphistaff around, now in its whip like state, towards Kyp's neck and shoulder.

Out of the corner of his eye he was the blue blade spinning through the air. It cut off the warrior’s right hand, dropping it to the floor. The lightsaber however stopped in mid-spin and came back to Wrev's hand as if on a string. Kyp used the opportunity to drive his blade through his enemy's chest.

Kyp looked over and saw that Corran and Clighal had also defeated the other warrior. Kyp was surprised to see a lightsaber in the Mon Calamari's hand for a moment. She was known as a healer, not a warrior.

The three other Jedi had surrounded the non-Jedi Council Members holding their lightsabers in defensive postures to protect them.

"They must have sent infiltrators here for a reason," Corran said, "We have to get out of here, we are all in danger."

Had they foiled some secret Yuuzhan Vong plot to eliminate the Jedi Council? A plot involving only two warriors? No, Corran was right, more were on the way.

Hmmm...she is a great healer and she has diplomatic ability, but I can see Corran better in a position of leadership than the Mon Cal Jedi.

Cool. You included Kenth Hamner.

Nice job with re-capping in a brief fashion things from the NJO that are background to your story. That's not always easy to do. ;)

[face_shocked] The guards were YV? Uh oh. This doesn't look good.

Cool to have Clighal with a lightsaber. :D

Very nice YodaKenobi. Great action at the end there and furthering of the plot. :)

    Excellent post, YodaKenobi. :D

I liked the little action sequence. Vong infiltrating the Council can't be a good thing. [face_shocked]

I like how you write Dif Scaur. I can see how some Jedi are getting agitated with him.

    And Kyp as the temporary leader? That can't be good either. 8-}

    Chapter 6

As the sharp blade came crashing down at his head, Yuusung Saa raised his own amphistaff to block. While he was still not allowed a full, mature, amphistaff, the practice staff was good enough. The only differences were the snake like head not being venomous and the blade not as long or sharp. It was still possible to do serious damage to an opponent or even kill him.

Yuusung Saa's block was successful and he shoved forward, forcing his opponent backwards. He relished every opportunity for battle, even against these younger warriors. His current opponent was a very strong sixteen-year-old, who had beaten Yuusung Saa on two occasions. While Yuusung Saa was not undefeated, he was the reigning champion of these duels.

The warrior regained his footing and made a wide cut towards Yuusung Saa's left thigh. It was blocked easily, but the warrior’s next move caught him by surprise. His amphistaff went from staff to whip form and slashed at Yuusung Saa's opposite leg. The teeth made contact but were batted away before it could break the skin. Falling forward, the warrior sent a stiff punch to Yuusung Saa's jaw forcing him backward. He took the punch in stride and let the momentum take him into a spin, bringing his staff around with all his strength, making the air screamed from the sheer force of the swing.

The load crack and yelp that followed was inevitably bones breaking, but Yuusung Saa had his eyes closed and was gritting his teeth so he couldn't see what had happened. When he opened them he saw the warrior's right elbow bent in the opposite direction it was designed to. The warrior had fallen to his knees and was clearly using all his strength not to cry out again.

Two of the young warriors who were circled around the duelers came forward and lifted the injured warrior to his feet so he could be dignified in his defeat. He made a small bow of his head to Yuusung Saa, unable to give a proper salute, and stepped into his place among the warriors. He would remain there until all the duelers were finished. The broken bone would be set later, but he would take nothing to diminish the pain, and do nothing to the scars that would form where the bones had broken through the skin.

Yuusung Saa was pleased with his victory, and the pain that had enveloped his jaw. As his next opponent steeped into the ring, Yuusung Saa heard his name being called. He turned his head to see Cuusii Aruh coming towards the young warriors battle arena.

Yuusung Saa made a gesture with his hand signaling that another should take his place in the duel. He felt anger and disgrace at walking away from a fight, but he had little choice. He was to obey the shaper until he was redeemed. Moving out of the ring, he met Cuusii Aruh in the small grove outside the dueling pit.

"Why have you interrupted my training?" Yuusung Saa chided. He may have to obey the shapers but he didn't have to cower to a Shaper's Adept such as Cuusii Aruh.

"I have been instructed by my master to bring you to the gates. You have a visitor on the way that should be here shortly,” Cuusii Aruh answered.

Nen Yim had left D'Ysuu two days ago; perhaps she had changed her mind and was going to retest him. He couldn't imagine it being anyone else; Nen Yim was the only one that came to visit him from outside D'Ysuu. It was a little odd that Cuusii Aruh would come to fetch him though. That was normally the task for an underling lower than a full adept.

Yuusung Saa was not as anxious to participate in the shaper's testing as he had been last time. The dream he had did awaken some memories. Infidel memories. He didn't want them corrupting him again, knowing they were lies. The infidels had shaped him, changed his memories and made him live among them for many years. He didn't want these thoughts.

Yuusung Saa let the practice amphistaff coil around his arm and began walking towards the commune's entrance gates. Cuusii Aruh followed closely behind him, through the brush and into the village. They emerged from a grouping of small fonns into a clearing where Yuusung Saa could see the shaper's damutek. As they began to pass it a certain infidel memory jumped into his mind: The violet beam of light slashing wildly, taking out the Yuuzhan Vong warriors with every swing. Anakin Solo was holding the light blade, not Yuusung Saa. Not me, him.

The pair stepped into another clearing where Yuusung Saa could see the entrance gates. No one was there. So when they got to the gates, Yuusung Saa and Cuusii Aruh waited.

After an hour and a half, Yuusung Saa decided to talk to Cuusii Aruh, perhaps it will make the wait pass faster, and get my mind off infidel thoughts.

"Why is she taking so long?"

Cuusii Aruh seemed taken back by the question for a moment but quickly regained his composure. "Your visitor has far to travel. He may have miscalculated his arrival."

"He? Is shaper Nen Yim not my visitor?" Yuusung asked.

Cuusii Aruh looked angry with himself for a moment then said,"I will say no more on the subject."

Why didn't he want Yuusung Saa to know who was coming? "Then answer this," Yuusung Saa started, "You said he had far to travel, where is he coming from."

Cuusii Aruh looked as if he wanted to run away. This line of questioning seemed to bother him more than the “who?”. Before he could side step the question again; Yuusung Saa fired another one, “What is outside D’Ysuu? What planet are we on?"

Cuusii Aruh took a deep breath. "Those are questions I am not permitted to answer, Yuusung Saa."

Yuusung Saa glared at him and yelled a Yuuzhan Vong curse. Denying information to his better? Cuusii Aruh had dishonored him! Yet, once again, he knew this wasn't true. He was no one's better. They still saw him as an infidel; they still did not trust him.

After another hour Yuusung Saa retired to his quarters telling Cuusii Aruh he could come and get him when his visitor actually arrived. He especially didn't want to wait with Cuusii Aruh's insolent mouth. He went into his fonn and tried to control his building anger. Why couldn't they tell him something as basic as what planet they were on? Did they trust him that little?

He heard a scratching noise and looked at the floor to see one of the reptile creatures had gotten into his room. Just looking at it made him feel tired. He considered killing it. No one would find out. Would they?

He was interrupted when he heard the door Zo'tal cry. That's probably Cuusii Aruh, perhaps his visitor had finally arrived. He flipped the manual door of his fonn open and was taken back by what he saw.

Before him stood the most glorious warrior he had ever seen. His face was covered in thick scars, many so deep that they puffed out and looked ass if he had large worms living under his skin. The tattoos he bore were also that of a warrior favored many times by Yun-Yammka, and of a revered clan. A horn had been implanted in the middle of his forehead and in his chin, as well as many small ones on the back of his scalp. His lips were sliced and pealed back showing his sharp teeth, many of them missing. He stood almost a full foot taller than Yuusung Saa and the shroud that hung off his shoulder implants made him look as broad as a Hutt, but powerful. What's a Hutt?

He saw six other warriors standing around what was obviously their commander; all of them were decorated, as incredible warriors should be. All had seen many battles, and fought bravely. He saw the shaper Cuusii Aruh standing off to the right.

"Yuusung Saa?" The great warrior asked.

Yuusung Saa crossed his fist to his left breast in salute. To his surprise the warrior returned the gesture. He looked at the warrior’s face again. The infidel had seen warriors as this before.

"I am Commander Hul Choka," His voice was powerful, "and I have been ordered to return you to the glory of the warriors' caste."

Yuusung Saa felt both overwhelmed and proud. He had not been expecting anything like this, but he would become the great warrior he was meant to. Nen Yim must have been more pleased with his development than had earlier been thought.

Although Yuusung Saa didn't look like a warrior, he tried to act the part, to carry himself as one, to speak as one. "Under whose authority were you ordered to do this?" He said in his strongest voice.

A look of pleasure crossed Hul Choka's face. "I was ordered by Supreme Overlord Shimrra himself, under the guidance of Yun-Yuuzhan," he answered.

Yuusung Saa almost didn't believe him. Could he be so important that the supreme overlord himself had taken interest in his return to the warrior caste? Nen Yim had said as much before, but around the shaper hung an air of deceit. In Hul Choka he saw the truth. The truth of a loyal warrior, faithful to Yun-Yammka the slayer. His anticipation grew; he would be a warrior. He would finally use his "special abilities." He would finally have his revenge...The Jedi would fear him.

"What would Lord Shimrra have me do?" Yuusung Saa asked.

"A very special task Yuusung Saa," Hul Choka answered. "You are to shape a weapon. A grand weapon, never before known to a Yuuzhan Vong warrior."

Yuusung Saa was confused but pleased. A weapon meant something destructive. Something with which to crush the infidels.

    "What kind of weapon?"

"You will shape the weapon of an infidel, the weapon of the jeedai," his eyes pierced Yuusung Saa. "You will shape a lightsaber."

Confusion turned to a sinking feeling. They were going to turn him into an infidel again. He would never truly join the warriors; warriors didn't carry the infidel lightsaber! Rage built in him. He wouldn't let them turn him into an infidel, not again. He would sooner embrace death or even the life of a shamed one than an infidel.

"A lightsaber? Why? Why would I shape a lightsaber? Their abominations! This is blasphemous! This is heresy!" He screamed.

"Do not question Lord Shimrra. His reasons are the gods'. The gods wish you to shape this weapon, it will be paramount to your success as a great warrior." Hul Choka was putting Yuusung Saa's faith into question, challenging him to prove his loyalty.

"Even so, I would not be able to shape such a weapon, those memories..." He stopped himself. "Those lies were removed from my mind."

"That is not so," Cuusii Aruh broke in. "If you try hard enough, you will remember Yuusung Saa. It will not be pleasant, but we know you can do it."

    How did they know?

"With what? I can't shape an infidel weapon with Yuuzhan Vong life. I would have to use abominations. Abominations we do not have!" He yelled.

"That is why you will journey with these warriors," the shaper's adept said. "They will take you out of D'Ysuu, take you somewhere you'll be able to shape this weapon."

Yuusung Saa tried to think of another objection.

"It is the will of the gods, Yuusung Saa;" Hul Choka's voice was now whisper thin. "You can not defy them. You can not deny that you are different than us. You will never be like us;" he gestured to the warriors around him.

Yuusung Saa felt as if his worst nightmare was taking place. He would never become a warrior.

"Yuusung Saa, you will be different. You will be greater." Hul Choka continued. “The gods favor you; Supreme Overlord Shimrra has foreseen it. The gods have granted him a vision of the future, and you are an important part of it. It is you who will lead us to victory over the infidels. It is you who will destroy the jeedai."

I like the idea of a practice amphistaff. Neat. :)

I like how you show Anakin's duality here. ;)

I have a feeling that it's Anakin and not the shaped lightsaber that will be Shimrra's real weapon. ;)

    Great post, YodaKenobi. :)

Yeah, I actually thought about cutting that line out, for exactly that reason. You're very observant though ;)

I wanted Yuusung Saa to be different from riina/Tahiri, because his shaping is complete and only one personality resides in Anakin't body.

I have a feeling that it's Anakin and not the shaped lightsaber that will be Shimrra's real weapon.

    Can't say :D

    Great post, YodaKenobi.
    You sure are posting quickly.

Thanks again Jade. My story is already completed so it's easy to post it fast. All I have to do is type it!

Ooh! Some great twists and turns here. I actually like the idea of showing those hints of the shaped Anakin's past.

The Yuuzhan Vong had had more than a little trouble from the infidel domain Solo. :D Great line.

I'm enjoying seeing a story writtten from the Vong point of view. It's refreshing. I also like the description of the Council and its decision-making, and the interplay of the different Jedi. Good work. The detail you include makes this a fascinating story.

Yeah, from this point on theirs at least one big revelation about Yuusung Saa in each of his chapters.

    Chapter 7

The Jedi Council pounded down the corridors away from the council chambers, lightsabers in hand. If the Yuuzhan Vong assassins had rigged the chamber to explode somehow, it hadn't happened yet. Cal Omas and Dif Scaur were frantically making comm calls demanding security come to assist them.

Seven security guards came running towards the group, which immediately raised their weapons. Kyp stretched out with the force, searching each one for some presence. After a moment he was able to confirm that none of the approaching guards were Yuuzhan Vong.

Corran Horn began issuing orders. "We need an armed escort for the president, and get some YVH droids down here now!"

"Everyone who comes down here must be checked by a YVH droid," Kenth Hamner added.

Kyp tried to sort out what had just happened in the council chambers. Why would two Yuuzhan Vong warriors pass themselves off as security guards and sneak into the Jedi Council meeting? They had no chance of killing them all. Perhaps they only meant to kill Cal Omas, they might have been able to do that before the Jedi could react. But why did they wait so long to make their move? Surely they knew with every passing second they came closer to being discovered.

Then Kyp remembered. The warriors hadn't attacked until Wrev Caster had discovered they were imposters and was approaching them. And even then they made no attempt on Cal Omas' life, they attacked Wrev, who they could have killed in the corridor much easier than in a meeting with six other Jedi.

“I think we’re going to be all right,” Kyp announced. “That was not an assassination attempt.”

    "What?" Ta'laam Ranth asked, astonished.

    Kyp quickly explained his reasoning.

"Yes, that's good thinking Kyp, "Corran said, "but why would they send them then?"

"Perhaps they were only there to gather information about our meeting rather than fight," Clighal suggested.

"But why send warriors then?" Wrev interjected. “If they just wanted to know what was said they could have sent members of their deception sect, or simply planted a villip or one of their other devices.”

"This one thinks they intended to kill you after they learned what you knew," said Tesar and he gestured to Wrev.

"Why? I would have already told the Council everything. Killing me and leaving the rest of you alive would be pointless," Wrev argued.

"Perhaps they wanted to see how important your information was before killing you or anyone of the council members, for fear of revealing themselves prematurely," offered Clighal.

Wrev took a moment then said, "My arrival with Eiia was all over the holonet. They would have known killing me would be pointless because Eiia knows what I know...Probably more from a strategic standpoint."

A realization seemed to wash over everyone at once as four YVH droids showed up. The "Yuuzhan Vong Hunters" were technological marvels that Lando Calrissian had provided the Galactic Federation.

"Director Scaur! Where is Eiia? She may be in danger," Wrev's composure Kyp had observed before was now gone, and his demeanor looked much more like the Wrev Caster of old.

"I will put a call in, and have more security put in. Relax," Scaur assured.

"Wrev is right. If they were going to make an attempt on his life, they would surely come after a Yuuzhan Vong traitor. She could be invaluable to us; we can not allow anything to happen to her," Kyp said.

Scaur looked irritated then lowered his comm. "I'm not getting an answer," he admitted.

"Where is she?" Wrev was almost screaming.

"In the GFI offices. The same sector you were in for debriefing," Scaur looked at his datapad to give specifics," Section 'D' chamber 'twelve'."

Wrev took off at a dead run, followed closely by Tesar, Clighal, and Kyp.

The four Jedi made it to the GFI intelligence offices in record time using a combination of force-aided speed and emergency turbolift access codes. When they stepped through the door they quickly ignited their weapons looking at the dozen bodies lying in the entrance. The reception area was fairly large with four corridors leading in different directions from it. A sizable circular console sat against the farthest wall where a receptionist would normally work, but at the moment, was laying over the console. The guards, who would hassle anyone trying to get in, were unconscious as well, along with some beings that were apparently passing through to other corridors. Most of them appeared to be unconscious but the blood spattered across the wall suggested that at least some of them had struggled.

Tesar let his reptile tongue taste the air. "Some type of gas," he said.

The group grabbed rebreathers off the guards’ utility belts but the fumes had dissipated enough that they didn't think they would need them.

"Let's proceed," Kyp ordered as he secured his breather.

They took the second corridor on the left and Wrev led the way at a pace that seemed a little fast, considering there were most likely Yuuzhan Vong warriors lurking the area. Passing by they saw more bodies, the vast majority of which were still alive, and most of the technical equipment that the Yuuzhan Vong despised was still intact. That which was destroyed looked like it had been damaged when one of the intelligence agents had fallen of it, or dropped it.

The facility was once just an apartment complex but when Mon Cal became the temporary capital of the newly formed Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, it had been renovated.

When the Jedi arrived in sector D they saw more of the same, unconscious agents and data consoles still operational. The Yuuzhan Vong had been in a hurry to pass up on destroying and murdering them. The door to chamber twelve, which was really apartment twelve, was bashed in.

Wrev stepped through first, and Kyp followed behind him. The room contained eight guards, who were probably there to keep the shamed one Eiia from escaping more than keeping others out. All appeared to be unconscious, but three other agents were in the main room, one of them had managed to get his breath mask on and met a worse fate. But, there was no sign of Eiia. Then Kyp spotted a large blood trail, heading to another room to the right. Wrev approached it, lightsaber in hand.

Kyp blinked for a moment and when he opened his eyes a Yuuzhan Vong warrior was bringing his amphistaff down on Wrev. The Jedi blocked the blow but was driven to the floor by its sheer force. Before he could strike again, the warrior was thrown off his feet by Tesar's tail, sweeping at the back of the warrior's legs. The Barable drove his blade into the warrior's neck and the smell of blood and burned flesh filled the room. Clighal helped Wrev to his feet while Kyp stepped around them and peered into the room the warrior had emerged from.

It looked like little more than a supply closet, and the blood trail was from another security agent, stacked against the wall. The warrior must have heard them approaching and hid in this closet waiting to attack. He probably hadn't expected it to be four Jedi he was ambushing. There was no sign of the shamed one, Eiia however, and Kyp was beginning to wonder what this was all about.

"What have they done with her?" Clighal asked.

"I don't know," Wrev answered, and he pulled a small device from his belt. "I had a small transmitter put under Eiia's skin on the trip to Mon Calamari. It didn't work while she was in here because of all the signal interference the GFI run to keep from being bugged, but if she has left the facility, dead or alive, I should be able to find her."

"That was good thinking," Kyp said suspiciously. "Were you expecting something like this to happen?"

Wrev let out a short laugh. "I took this precaution because I didn't trust the New Re--, Galactic Federation to keep my promise to Eiia. I didn't know how she would be received here...I've got a signal, but I need to load the area schematics to check where she is in relation to us."

Wrev plugged the device into a nearby console.

"That brings to mind a question," Tesar said. "How did you know to come to Mon Calamari? When you left, the New Republic was the government and Coruscant was the capital, how did you know you could find us here?"

Wrev continued to work. "The relocation of the capital is widely known among the Yuuzhan Vong," he gestured to the warrior," obviously. I learned of it from the shamed ones, although I did not know about the change in government, which, by the way, seems like little more ten a name change so far."

Kyp could not argue with Wrev's assessment of the GFFA. The change seemed mostly cosmetic; dumping the name of a government that had lost in hopes that citizens would think of this new government as winners.

"All right, they just exited the hanger, and are headed for the city," Wrev announced.

"Should we comm for assistance so they can be stopped or should we just use the homing signal and wait to see where they go?" Clighal asked. The group thought for a moment.

"We have to go after her now," Wrev exclaimed,"If she is still alive they will torture her, the fact they didn't leave her here dead is proof of that."

"But then she would not be at risk for death," Tesar reasoned.

Wrev thought about this for another moment, "No. I made a commitment to her. I cannot betray her."

"The it's settled," Kyp broke it, "Clighal will comm the authorities and tell them to try and keep civilians from getting in the Vong's way, and we'll intercept them. Let's go."

    Chapter 8

When the group was nearly two kilometers away from D'Ysuu, Yuusung Saa felt a tremendous sense of energy envelope him. It was as if he was finally fully awake after a groggy existence in the commune. He wondered if it was the hiking, or just the excitement of his coming mission. He would finally become a warrior serving the Yuuzhan Vong. They would not only trust him they would honor him. Especially when he destroyed the infidel Jedi...No, this feeling was something else. It was like his body had been dehydrated, and he was gulping down water as fast as he could. The hairs on the back of his neck were standing, and he felt a tingle in every cell of his being.

Outside of D'Ysuu were large rolling hills and jagged mountains covered by foliage of greens and nearly every other color in the spectrum. Yuusung Saa thought it was the most glorious thing he had ever seen, and wondered what it all was...Where he was?

Hul Choka, who Yuuzung Saa had learned, was the brother of Warmaster Nas Choka, followed behind, amphistaff at the ready. The Yuuzhan Vong Commander had told him that there might still be infidels where they were headed. When he thought about the infidels the memories came back easier now that he was outside. He didn't think he would have any trouble rebuilding the infidel lightsaber, but he worried, knowing he would have to use the Jedi "force" to accomplish it. He hoped that using the Jedi tricks would not corrupt him again, but he saw no other way to do it. Yuusung Saa wondered for a moment if he could use his special powers that Nen Yim had spoke of to complete his task. If he only knew what they were or how to use them.

After several hours of hiking the group had not reached any infidel ruins yet, nor had they seen any of their abominations. What infidels lived on this beautiful world?

Yuusung Saa had tried not to let specific infidel memories reach his conscious but he was unsuccessful. One such memory was similar to his strange dream. He remembered the small white creature, whose name was Ikrit. The infidel remembered him fondly, as a master and ultimately a protector. He remembered a conversation with this small creature about destiny. About his destiny...No, the infidel's destiny, and Ikrit's destiny.... And Tahiri. Tah--NO. This thought process was dangerous. He must concentrate on his mission, and resist the Infidel's taint.

As they came over a large hill, Yuusung Saa could make out large structures in the horizon. They were large buildings and appeared to be sparsely covered in the foliage. He then realized that all the jagged hills he had seen were actually large towers. The very hill he was walking on had a strange sense of symmetry about it; perhaps it was a covered building as well. The Yuuzhan Vong had conquered this world, but looking at the skyline, much of the infidel's abominations still shown through.

Should he ask Hul Choka what world this was? His infidel memories would probably recognize the name... If Hul Choka was his subordinate he should be able to ask.

"What world was this?" He asked, trying to sound aloof, as if it wasn't important.

"It matters not," Hul Choka snapped. "The infidels corrupted this planet and the Yuuzhan Vong have reshaped it for the glory of Yun- Yuuzhan!"

Perhaps Hul Choka was not his subordinate yet.

After a short break for a meal and a few more hours of hiking the group was in the thick of the infidel towers.

"Where do you wish to begin your search?" Hul Choka asked.

"I don--," Yuusung Saa stopped himself. He heard something very strange, a low hum, calling to him from the distance. Something from the far west... It was strange because it felt as if he were hearing it with something inside of him, not his ears. "I don't know," he finished, trying to ignore the humming in his brain. The Yuuzhan Vong Commander continued to stare at him obviously unsatisfied with his answer.

"I don't know if I will be able to find the proper abominations to shape this weapon here," Yuusung Saa said.

    "Explain," Hul Choka blurted.

"If my infidel memories are correct, there are rare crystals that are used to focus the blade of a lightsaber. Not knowing which planet this is, I do not know if such crystals can be found," Yuusung Saa hoped that Hul Choka would take the bait and reveal their location.

After standing silent for another moment he said, "The Supreme Overlord believes you will be able to do so, I see no reason to question his judgment."

Yuusung Saa did not dare argue with that reason. He was bluffing anyway; he remembered that Anakin had used a Yuuzhan Vong lambent as a crystal in his own blade once, and there was lambent bed in D'Ysuu. He didn't know if he could re-create this task, but at least he knew it was possible. He wondered why that memory had jumped into his mind?

Since leaving D'Ysuu the memories had come back very easily. Not painless, but he felt like he could remember anything if he tried hard enough. He would have to be careful not to do this, it was dangerous.

"Fine, let’s get started," he said, gesturing to the building on his right. "We'll start in that construct and just work our way around until I've found what I need."

The eight Yuuzhan Vong warriors stepped through a broken trainspersteel window and into what was once a vendor's shop. The vendor apparently sold food stuffs, but there was none to be seen. Yuusung Saa began to wonder when the mighty Yuuzhan Vong had conquered this infidel world. The humming in his brain was growing stronger, but not louder, beckoning him to go west. What is out there?

After several hours and three buildings Yuusung Saa had found very little to use for a lightsaber besides a possible activator. Two hours later his luck seemed to turn when he located something that could be used as a blade emitter and a power cell.

When he tried to hand the abominations to one of the warriors to carry, the warrior looked repulsed and back away. How dare he! Did he think that Yuusung Saa was the only one who would take the infidels' taint in this search? Would he not endure the pollution as Yuusung Saa had? Did this warrior think of him as tainted for construction the infidel weapon as Shimrra himself had specified?

Anger shot through Yuusung Saa in waves, and with it came a power he had never tasted. His every cell burned with it and he wanted nothing more that to kill the coward before him.

He sent a hard backhand across the warrior’s face, hard enough to knock the much larger Yuuzhan Vong down, and Yuusung Saa felt as if the bones in his hand had been broken. But, he didn't care. The power he had felt only a microsecond before was nothing compared to the surge he within him when he struck the coward. He felt as if he was on fire; his hatred was burning him... And he loved it.

The warrior rose into a submissive position, offering his life to Yuusung Saa. He pulled out his Coufee and closed the distance between himself and his underling. Then, he grabbed the warrior’s hair, pulling his head back with his left hand, and stuck the coufee against the warrior’s throat with the right. He stared into the warrior's unflinching eyes and screamed," You are a coward!" His every instinct was driving him to kill the warrior...Did I just yell in the infidel tounge?

By the look in the warrior’s eyes, he could see that he had. Three other warriors had gathered around now and were staring as well, waiting to watch the impending execution. Could he do it now? It would only look as if he were killing the coward to take away his own disgrace... The warrior's death would taint him further. No. He wanted this warrior to live, to live to see what Yuusung Saa would become. This warrior would come to regret this day greatly.

Yuusung Saa took his coufee away from the warrior's neck and then slashed the strap of his bandolier. "If you refuse to carry the abominations, then I will need this," He snapped in perfect Yuuzhan Vong while stealing the pouch and storming out of the room.

After his outburst of anger, Yuusung Saa felt the humming grown stronger. He also knew he had access to more of his infidel memories, memories about the Jedi and the force as well as the constant warnings about the darkside of this lie. The infidel had nightmares of becoming his grandfather, Darth Vader, who was known among the infidels as evil and murderous.

Then Yuusung Saa remembered something else-- The feeling he had in his cells since leaving D'Ysuu was exactly like his memories of the force, but this could not be, because the force was a lie. These feelings must be related to his special powers and not the infidel force. And yet, when he had gained power from his anger, it was much like the many warnings Anakin had received about the darkside. If his powers were so like the infidel force, was that proof of its existence? Why did he have access to this power now, when he didn't have it in D'Ysuu?...

Then it hit him. "Ysalamiri," he whispered. He remembered that the creatures created a bubble in which the force did not exist, especially when in mass numbers. Why would D'Ysuu have them there, if the force did not exist in him? He could think of no other reason. They had moved the Ysalamiri here, wherever "here" was, to subdue him, to keep him away from his powers. To keep me away from the force? Had the Yuuzhan Vong lied o him?

Anger and confusion overtook Yuusung Saa, along with thoughts of murdering his scavenging group. His cells once again burned with hatred and he felt it's awesome power. They had lied to him... But did it really matter? The infidel force existed and he could use it, but did it change the fact that they were infidels? Of course not, they must be stopped! If the force existed, it was clearly a gift from Yun-Yuuzhan himself and not what the infidels claimed it to be. He would destroy the Jedi, and he would use the very power they worshipped to do it.

The group continued on, searching for the parts that would become Yuusung Saa's lightsaber in old garages and factories. The smells of the infidel fuels and other abominations provided a constant challenge for him, to repress his memories while the humming from the west seemed to grow stronger as well. His realization about the force and the Yuuzhan Von deception only made it stronger. He had to keep his mind on his task. His lightsaber...

Yuusung Saa was most worried about the focusing crystals. If the world he was on did not contain the proper crystals, he would be forced to try and use a Yuuzhan Vong lambent as Anakin had. However, doing so would be incredibly blasphemous. It was bad enough that he was building the infidel weapon, but to adapt Yuuzhan Vong life to a non-living machine would be a slap in the face to the gods themselves. Would Supreme Overlord Shimr-- Suddenly Yuusung Saa was falling, fast.

The floor beneath him and the warrior next to him in the dilapidated building had given out. The force with which they fell drove them through another floor. When they came to the next floor it was a hard, bone-rattling stop. Yuusung Saa had fallen directly on his back and was having trouble finding oxygen. He saw above him that more debris was falling towards his face, so he did his best to gather his strength and rollaway, but their wasn't time. So, he called on his special powers, on the hatred. In a lightning quick roll he spun away, but the other warrior was not as fortunate. His head was crushed by the falling duracrete.

Yuusung Saa was amazed at how quickly accessing his hatred had come to him in a perilous situation. He didn't think he could have achieved the same result with a clear head. On instinct, his infidel memories and the force had taken over.

He heard the other warriors two floors up calling down to him. He wondered if he should even answer for a moment. He didn't need them watching over him for him to complete this mission. Of course, this was his chance to prove his loyalty. What better way to do that then passing on an obvious chance for escape? If they thought him still an infidel, this would have to erase those doubts.

"I'm down here!" He yelled up. The statement sounded obvious and stupid. He looked around and saw that all his exits in the room were blocked by heavy debris. The door leading to a pedestrian bridge and another building, however, was still accessible.

"I can't get back up there, " he yelled. "You'll have to take the upper bridge and meet me at the building west of this one!"

The Yuuzhan Vong responded with a reluctant grunt and then Yuusung Saa could hear them moving overhead towards the pedestrian bridge.

He took a moment to inspect the room further. It was a small residential apartment and the one door still not blocked led out of the residence, into a larger hallway and ultimately to the bridge he intended to use. The room itself was mostly barren, the few items and trinkets were dust covered and destroyed. The Yuuzhan Vong wildlife had not spread to this apartment yet, and he wondered again how long ago they had conquered this world.

In a back corner half covered by debris, Yuusung Saa spotted something more interesting, an old protocol droid. With no warriors watching over his shoulder he walked over and inspected the droid. It was certainly damaged and it would take most people days to fix it with the few tools Yuusung Saa had, but Anakin had always been good with machines. Since he was young he had been able to fix and build them without truly understanding what he was doing. It had been this ability that had allowed him to operate Centerpoint Station. Centerpoint? Yuusung Saa decided not to think of such things and to concentrate on the droid.

After half an hour of tinkering and using the power supply he had intended for his lightsaber, Yuusung Saa hit the activator on the droid and it came to life. It had at one time been silver, but was not mostly a dust color that stood in contrast to his bright yellow eyes.

"Greeeetings. I am T-9p3, a prooootocol droid." The droid's voice modulator was obviously still damaged, perhaps it was just all the dust and debris. "Hoooww may I be of seeervice, sir?"

"Tell me what happened to you, T-9p3? What happened here?" Yuusung Saa asked.

"I haaave no memory of that sir. I only remember aaaaan explooosion, " the droid answered.

Yuusung Saa thought about this for a moment. The building had probably been hit by a coralskipper's plasma. That would explain why the floor had given out.

"T-9p3, where are we? What planet is this?"

"siiir, you are iin the residence of the Jarvis', on the plant cooooruscant."

    Those were some nice posts,Yoda.

I like how you put the sparks of Anakin in Yuusung Saa. It's interesting to read.

I liked that scene with Yuusung and the warrior who wouldn't carry the machines. ANd how he could feel his hatred making him sronger. That he'd been lied to and that the FOrce existed.

    Great story, YodaKenobi. :D

    thanks whitey.

I liked the part when Anakin almost killed the warrior when he wouldn't hold the "abominations."

yeah, me too. I imagined a Vong Warrior with force abilities would have to use the dark side because they value hate and the only value they see in life is death itself.

Anyway, two more coming later today :D
