ST Rey - conceived by the Force

I got thinking about Rey's parentage and what if she, like Anakin, was conceived by the Force itself?

She wouldn't be Luke or Leia's child but in a way they are part of a pretty exclusive club with lineage directly to the Force.

Not a Skywalker or Solo exactly but not a random either.

There is precedence of course so it's acceptable in-Universe, it would maybe explain Maz's "I've seen your eyes" stuff too.

Perhaps she was born to bring balance to the Force by taking out Snoke?

Anyway, thoughts?

 

Maybe. I've thought something like this might be possible, but then I usually discount it because it's too much of a PT reminder.

However, what if Rey were Anakin reborn? That might be interesting -- Kylo wants to be Vader and Rey is actually a reincarnated Anakin?

I don't think any of this will happen though. It will just be suggested she's the next in line to be a great Jedi.

 

First, I think this belongs in the Daisy Ridley thread.

Secondly, I don't think Rey will have been conceived by the Force. The concept is from the prequels, and you can be pretty damn sure they won't be including such obvious references to the PT.

 

Possible but unlikely, IMHO. I think it would hurt her relatability.

 

I wondered if the "same eyes in different faces" might be a hint at some kind of reincarnation of the Chosen One - Like the Avatar or the Dalai Lama.

But that's only if there is no legacy angle.

It feels a bit Plagueis, and as Dion says, a little unreliable to be, but anything is possible at this stage.

 

We can pretty much debunk this idea with good faith, since Rey has already said that she knows "all about waiting, for my family".

If she was conceived by the force, she wouldn't have a family to wait for in the first place. Obviously she was abandoned at a young age due to "reasons".

 

Anakin had a mom. He could have easily been told he had a father.

 

Without wishing to derail, I wish they hadn't gone the immaculate conception angle - for precisely the relatability factor that Dion brings up. COnevresely, if you are going with that angle, I'd love to know what that "otherness"/ weight of destiny feels like for the character - how does it impact. That's what makes that kind of Chosen One character special - see Potter, or Superman at times. Not being the Chosen One because of ALL THE POWERZ.

 

I think it's why it won't be revealed until Ep 8, give us time to get to know Rey and bond a bit before finding out she's the next chosen one.

The 'virgin birth' scenario was one of the great perplexing misfires of Anakin's backstory (in my opinion), and I very much doubt that it's the kind of thing JJ or Lucasfilm will do. I can't imagine the story group even considering that idea.

As someone else said, heroes have to be relatable - it is fundamental.

 

Dear gods no! The virgin birth schtick was one of the worst ideas of PT. They repeat that mistake at their peril.

 

It was a poor idea, explored badly.

 

I don't think she conceived by the force, but do think it's possible the force chose her. This is if her parents are random survivors on Jakku.

Yes - destiny/ will of the force is clearly going t play a big role in TFA.

Calling it now: conceived by the force, carried by Luke for 9 months, raised by a krayt dragon. Sadly the krayt died when she was just eight years old and she's still waiting for her to return.
