Yeah, me and ironing do not mix. Hence, wipes and not the Star Wars kind.

Naah, not in this movie; :p There will be many things to smile at too. I have a feeling this won't be as dark as marketing are painting it; given the denizens of Acht-To

and didn't Rian say something to that effect?!?

I wonder if Rian's dream about a Jedi fighting a dog on a canoe was somehow influenced by watching two Jim Jarmusch films....... Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai, and Dead Man, which features a canoe. On a sided note, two of Jim's films have Star Wars characters in lead roles.

So in my quarterly Rian Johnson movies now I watched "Looper" again, I freakin love "Looper". Like, a lot. All of Johnson's movies there is a bunch of information and plot twists, and Looper opens up with one hellova a exposition dump, but also there some great bits of plot info here that are just communicated via visuals instead. Like one extremely harrowing scene early on shows how they're getting a future time travel guy to go to a certain location and a lot of terrible things are happening to future time travel guy. It's never explicitly stated what is going on but you can tell and it works a lot. Star Wars movies people talk a lot (and in Rian Johnson movies people talk a lot too frankly)

You know who's also in Looper? Noah Segan, he plays Kid Blue. (Which I sort of think as an aside that Abe is Kid Blue's Looper from the future, or his dad, they definitely have an interesting mentor / student dynamic in between the lines. Or it's just that Jeff Daniels can do almost anything). But I only mention this because Segan is also in Brick and Brothers Bloom (and Looper) so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled if he pops up in The Last Jedi. I'd put better odds on Segan than Gordon-Levit (but I'd think both could also be a possibility).

this is probably Johnson's best looking movie, there are some fantastic wide shots and single takes which could translate easily to Star Wars (hell, think of the trailer shot that pans around the mountain as Rey is working the lightsaber on the "It's so much bigger" line). And I kind of love how the film has this great scale and then pares wayyyyyy down for the finale. There's a bunch of neat extended scenes throughout, I really dig the whole Joe to Old Joe's time lapse. Also things go quite wrong continually for the characters here and I did notice that Johnson said when he planed TLJ he thought "what could be the worse thing that happens to the characters after Force Awakens" so I definitely expect some buttons to be pushed. Also the Old Joe / Young Joe dynamic is pretty cool because they kind of hate each other but I especially like the Weight of the World that Old Joe has (and Willis brings to his performance). I do also expect Luke in Last Jedi to be rather weighed down by the consequences of actions and life which will give it a bit of pathos, which is what Old Joe has here.

Did I mention that I'm totally happy that Rian Johnson is doing a Star Wars movie? Cuz I really am. Seriously, if one hasn't seen Brick, Brothers Bloom or Looper, must watch, ASAP.

I don't want the Rian Johnson fest to end so I'm definitely going to get in and rewatched his 3 episodes of Breaking Bad in at some point: Fly, Fifty One and Ozymandias. Haven't really rewatched any Breaking Bad full episodes since I watched the whole series once and Ozymandias is probably one of Breaking Bad's best episodes.

Oh and there's more crime, swindles and lowlifes in Looper, which is all 3 of Johnson's movies, so I fully expect that in Last Jedi, definitely on the Casino Planet and DJ the slicer.

Speaking of slicers, I noticed Justin Theroux (slicer in VIII) is not listed on IMDB as being in VIII....... not on his page, nor the page for the film, even though it has been reported he's in it.

He could become only the second person to direct multiple Star Wars films.

I think RJ's going to kill it with TLJ. I love what I've seen so far, and I'm a big fan of Looper and Brick.

The only tiny little part of his record that makes me nervous is Brothers Bloom, which I thought was almost unwatchable. Felt like a film trying way too hard to be a Wes Anderson film, and failing. Overwrought quirkiness, basically. But I think that was a bit of an experiment for him, and Looper is more his speed.

Plus the fact that in a JJ Abrams movie, nobody is allowed to walk, everybody has to run.

Hmmm, interesting to hear Rian would potentially direct 8 and 9 when he was hired. It is a no brainer for Disney / LFL at this point and he would do it.

The more i think about it, if LFL stick to a hard May deadline, I think Rian would decline the offer. However if it's pushed to december, I could see him taking it on.

I can see them pushing the release to December, especially if the script is not done? Is that still the case - script issues?

yeah script issues. They didn't send out a delay with the trevorrow announcement, but if Rian is taking over they'd sure announce a delay at that moment right?

Wasn't IX production rumoured to start in Jan?

If it's shifted to December, it's going to have to go head-to-head with the 'Wonder woman' sequel. That is less than ideal.

But - unless we're actually hearing this news rather late and they've already been scrambling under a new director to do prep work - that May deadline does seem unrealistic. Could it get pushed to May 2020, I wonder?

Whatever happens, if Rian comes back, give him that time to make the movie properly. I would rather wait for, as you say, quality. ;)

If they announce Rian, i'd say there's basically 0% chance of a May release.
