Hello all, first time poster and prop builder wannabe.

I have a set of the Riddel 1/4 scale helmets. They state they were derived from the real macoys. Have any of you guys used these to create your blue prints with? Simply scale them up?

I have wanted to make my own prop helmets for years and I finally convinced myself not to wait any longer. I figure the best place to start is to draw up some rock solid blue prints.

    Any thoughts?

In outward appearence they were derived from the real deal. The insides however are totally fabricated. The Vader I believe is based on the real deal however.

The Fett and trooper are 100% made up.

    They look cool though.

I cannot comment on the ST, but the Vader is very inaccurate, although nice to look at. They got the proportions quite right, but the facial features are just an approximation to the real deal .

Actually, they're .45 scale, not 1/4, just like the Master Replica mini-sabers...

Yes, I'm making a Mini-Vader. I'll post pics as I get going on this. The reason I chose this size is the ease of storage!

Thanks for the scaling correction. I also notice after studying the Vader helm that the top helmet is not quite right. But I can already see some adjustments I could easily make to correct it. The face portion is close enough for me.

I've got three "Vaders" on my shelf, the Don Post from 1977, the Riddell mini, and a fiberglass copy of the ANH mask... No wonder artists can't capture his likeness! It all depends on what version you're going by!

Oh, there is always the MPC/Ertl Vader figure model. Another fine variant for your confusion!

They are close but not 100% accurate. The trooper is a rotj and although fairly good, if it was blown up to 100% it would be inaccurate.

There's a Riddell section on my site including the prototype TIE helmet.

    Cheers

Over the last couple of years I've been able to amass photo's of a massive number of different SW helmets, licensed and fan-made in order to catalogue and review them all, good bad and brilliant!

    I'm glad you like it

    Cheers
