I spent Thanksgiving in Rhode Island a couple of years ago with some of my husband's Yankee relatives...the scenery is beautiful and my mother-in-law's turkey was awesome as usual, but one of the side dishes was turnips and carrots--supposedly a "traditional New England Thanksgiving dish". Blech.

Somebody really needs to introduce y'all to sweet potato casserole.

Hey! My grandparents are fifth cousins and my sister married our sixth cousin!

Smallest state in the Union...yep...I could stand at one end of the state and shoot a .22 and hit a tin can at the other end of the state.

And at least we know how to make iced tea here.

Side note: I was IMing last night with a friend from Alabama, and I said, "Why do you reckon these Rhode Islanders are still bragging about winning the Civil War and threatening to send Sherman back down here?" His response summed it up perfectly. "Because they're Yankees. It sucks to be them."

The main reason for the Civil War was BBQ, don't you guys know that? The South has the best BBQ and the North wanted it. Based on the BBQ I've had in NYC, they still don't have it.

Give them a break. They work hard. After all the Southerners are my favorite attraction at the zoo these days.

 

Although I do admit there is a place in Kingston and Wilmington NC with some danm good BBQ. Maybe we should invade again to take that from you too.

 

It's "Kinston", hon--Singularity and I are both originally from a town very near there.

I'll hand you this--you do have taste in barbecue.
