This string is dedicated to talk of Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars. To compare characters, and battles.

Hmmm, in the OT, anyway, Obi-Wan has a similar role to Gandalf. In the PT, though, I believe he will look different.

This is "The Hobbit," not LotR, but I guess it still applies...

I think Luke is kinda like Bilbo. In the beginning of ANH, Luke isn't really interested in going on adventures. In the beginning of The Hobbit, Bilbo isn't interested on going on adventures. They both end up going on a really cool adventure and discovering something.

Both LotR and Star Wars are based on archetypes that make them comparable to each other and also hundreds of other books and movies like, Harry Potter, the Odyessy, etc.

Obi-Wan and Gandalf are indeed the mentors to the main characters, though I feel the comparison is better made between Luke and Frodo. Luke is definately like Bilbo, but the Hobbit I've always viewed as short of a side story, not part of the man story. Sauron is easily Vader and/or the Emeperor and I've seen the ring as a parallel almost to the Force. In Middle Earth the ring is what gives one the power, but in Star Wars, it the Force (though of course the Force can be used for good.) Overall, Frodo's journey with the ring is the same as Luke's journey from Tatooine to being a Jedi. Just my thoughts!

Legolas and Chewie, interesting fight. I don't know. Chewie has the brute strength while Legolas has the agility. But Chewie's nasty with his cross-bow ( though Legolas is sick with his bow. ) Go figure. If it came down to a hand to hand fight, Legolas would be destroyed, but otherwise, I give the elf the edge.

Elves are definately awesome (they'd beat Wookies any day with looks) but I can't forget Chewie's awesome strength.

What about Obi-Wan versues Gandalf? That's a fight I'd like to see.

Elfs aren't unbeatable, just hard to beat. There's a big difference.

Did anyone else notice that in the movie, when everyone else was bleeding and dying, Legolas had a smudge on his face and nothing else? Does no one else find this weird and just a little funny?

Did anyone else notice that Leia still looks good in a garbage chute? :p and she wasn't even a Jedi!

Anyway, I finally figured something out that had been bugging me since seeing the Clone War trailer-- kinda like a "missing link.":

    ESB
    ESB music and "Join me!"

    FotR movie
Christopher Lee and "We must join with him."

    Clone War trailer
Christopher Lee, ESB music, and "You must join me, Obi-Wan!"

    See the parallels? :D

The one area where Lord of the Rings fails to me is the inactivity of Sauron. He should have been more involved in the battles.

This is the conversation between me and my sister, Meg_Dahera, that occurred when I told her about this thread.

    Meg: Yoda is like Gandalf.
    Me: How so?
    Meg: He's old.

This is so silly. But I can't resist joining in by saying... Sauron is much cooler than The Emperor. He could kick Palpatine's rear in a heart beat.

Even Saruman could beat the tar out of The Emperor.

    :D

    That´s right, KongZilla, you show´em!

Palpy would fall onto his knees begging for mercy at the very sight of Sauron!

    20 Sith Jedi Masters

    1 Flame of Adun/ Balrog

    Balrogs are freaking bad.

    I know this is a bit old...but... :)
Chewbacca would definitely win (I know I sound like Rainman, lol)!!! Come on, Legolas is good...but Chewie would tear his arms off or shoot him with the crossbow before Legolas knew what was going on.

    God bless y'all!

I'd have to go with 20 Sith. Balrogs are bad but 20 Sith could dispatch it and anyone else. Gandalf, a powerful yet eldery wizard took care of the Balrog. 20 Sith would be more than a match for a Balrog or anything else.

And Gandalf is like Obi-Wan because he got stuck down but arose more powerful than anyone could possibly imagine.
