I hoped it wasn't true, but then the news went up on BBC.

Well Colonel Brandon and his role in Love Actually are probably my absolute favorites, Snape is actually quite on the bottom of my favorite Rickman roles.

Realistically it's not his great performances that make this sad -- Hans Gruber, Sheriff of Nottingham, Snape, Metatron -- or even his range of films, from action, to drama, to comedy, to sci-fi, to fantasy, to mockumentary, to documentary, etc.

It's that he always elevated whatever part he was playing and stood above whatever else was going on, regardless if he was bad or good, or the movie was bad or good.

Want to make you cry in the middle of a funny send-up of Star Trek that also happens to double as basically the best Star Trek film of the last 15+ years? Shut up, I'm not crying, you're crying!

The Krynoid Man Jedi Master

He's a big part of the childhood of myself and a lot of other people my age due to his role in the Harry Potter films, in which he gave a great performance as Snape. I also greatly enjoyed his memorable turns in Galaxy Quest, Robin Hood and Die Hard. Turley one of the great actors, and one who will hopefully be remembered for many years to come.

Saw this just as I was getting out of the car this morning.
Horrible news, on the heels of Bowie and they both died at the same of (overall) the same disease. Sucks

I know he was a great actor in general but in the HP saga he WAS the character from the book in a way that few actors achieve when trying to do that translation.
