Amph RIP Alan Rickman

A while back, at my library job, one of my tasks was going through the titles that arrived via the Audio/Visual Circuits. One of my then-colleagues made it very clear that, if I ran across anything featuring Alan Rickman, I was to put it aside for her at once. I offered no objections; she had good taste.

 

I just realized: maybe Alan Rickman just couldn't take it now that someone won, in a lottery, what Hans Gruber tried to steal from Nakatomi...

 

RIP Alan Rickman

No more merciful beheadings and cancel Christmas ( I loved Robinhood Men in Tights)

 

I feel like my heart has been carved out with a spoon.

 

Really sad news. A lot of sad news this month actually, unfortunately. He was the best part of the HP movies for me, heck, I still remember he did the voice for Marvin the Robot in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie. Just the voice, of course, but he was just that good. Not to mention Galaxy Quest, another favorite.

I need to stop reading the news right after waking up. What a horrible start to the day...

 

Two things;

1) Stop saying 'good things are happening in heaven', world, when this happens. For starters, you're too old to believe in stupid made up nonsense. Plus it wasn't happening on earth, but I suppose if you applied common sense you wouldn't mention heaven, so...

2) He's always going to be Hans Gruber before he's Snape

 

He'll always been Metatron & Dr. Lazarus first to me.

 

He was capable of being both incredibly over the top and incredibly minimal and being perfect in both modes. Not many actors can say that.

Daniel Radcliffe:

Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t have to do that. I know other people who’ve been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say, “If you call Alan, it doesn’t matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he’s doing, he’ll get back to you within a day.”​

People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played, so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner (or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.​

​

As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important, and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theater stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.​

​

 

I rewatched Galaxy Quest just a few days ago. He really is the best part of that movie.

What's with everyone dying from cancer at 69?

 

RIP Alan Rickman.

Well, one of them's having fun, I guess.

 

I'm shocked & guttered, 69 is far too young. I had only watched Die Hard and Galaxy Quest recently. RIP Mr Rickman, you'll be missed.

 

Alan is just wishing that Lemmy had consulted him first with respect to the title of the final Motorhead album, Bad Magic.

 

He was a great actor. One of my favourites is his role in "Galaxy Quest".

Sadly they say Deaths come in three's. First Lemmy, David Bowie, and now Alan.
