This is the greatest thing I have ever seen.
Unlocked at request.
First time the Purple One has ever toured NZ. I'm unbelievably excited, but the ticket battle against the website will be ridiculous.
And ridiculous it turned out to be.
I missed out on this but I at least got to saw him with he last toured Melbourne. Excellent show.
Yeah, I've seen him before too, in 1997 in San Francisco - he jammed with Carlos Santana in the encore. Best show ever.
Prince and Santana?
Yeah... check it out. I have a nice bootleg of the show too.
RIP Vanity / Denise Matthews
I have customized playlists on YouTube, separated by where I was living at that time or just whatever and I often think something is missing. I just realized it's Prince since he doesn't allow his videos to stream online.
I just got paid a little extra thing for a freelance job, and checked ticketmaster once again (as I've been doing 10 times a day for the last fortnight since the announcement). Just got 2x of the "cheaper" Prince tickets for 10pm tomorrow, I'm pretty much crying.
Mind ******* blown.
**** this ****.
At least you got to see him!
"Purple Rain.....Purple Rain...."
I saw him in San Francisco in 1997 too.
Whoah. RIP. Wasn't a huge fan(I like some of his stuff) but the guy was a talented songwriter and musician.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
Prince tunes are hard to get online, BUT here's one
People this is very weird! I wrote a variation on '1999' just last week and I changed my icon to Prince yesterday.
Now I seem like a douche. Thanks Prince!
Not a douche, just the grim reaper.
I can take your icon.
Sad, weird news.
I remember seeing the "Purple Rain" video as a kid, and thinking: This is serious. It felt as if something important went down; maybe it was the mesmerized crowd, the unusually slow pace of the song, but everything seemed to stop for a moment. It was like a slow lightning.
He was that rare thing: an artist who is both commercially and artistically hugely successful. Strange we lost two of those in just a few months.
I heard he died in an elevator, which immediately brings the intro of "Let's Go Crazy" to mind:
We are gathered here today
2 get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time--
But I'm here 2 tell u
There's something else
A world of never-ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night
So when u call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one: Dr Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cuz in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life
You're on your own
And if de-elevator tries 2 bring u down
Go crazy: punch a higher floor
Sad to consider:
Four main icons of MTV era: MJ, Prince, Whitney Houston and Madonna.
Only one is left.
@SuperWatto, remember we were all having a fun bit with Prince like posts just the other day. When I came back on here today I was shocked but remembered you did change your icon just (was it yesterday?). And it shows you how much a part of the culture his musical language was that we talked about the style of lettering and numbering. Something so small was so identifiable to him.
What a talent.
So ******* sad to see this thread become an RIP one.
