So, from what I've read from my FB freinds (mainly people my age who grew up on a mix of AOR and New Wave) Billy Joel was tremendous, Kanye was horrendous, to the point one hoped Taylor Swift and Beyonce would have rushed the stage and beaten him to a pulp. Accurate summary?
Incidentally, I remember going to the memorial concert in Central Park on the 1st anniversary of 9/11, featured Billy Joel performing New York State of Mind together with Wynton Marsalis and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Maybe the best live performance I've ever seen, Billy rocked.
The song's called "Cut Me Some Slack." I found a better video of it.
I heard Kanye gave a good performance.
Well I'll rewatch the whole thing, but from what I saw live, Clapton playing in a 3 piece was ******* lovely. Crossroads was sublime.
Where can you rewatch it?
For those in the UK, the concert will be broadcast in two parts on Sky Arts TV tonight. Part 1 is from 10pm-midnight UK time on Sky Arts 1 and part 2 is on from midnight-2:30 am on Sky Arts 2. (Channels 129 and 130 on Sky satellite.)
Apparently that view isn't shared by everyone.
Courtney Love is such an ***hole, I swear.
Courtney really just needs to get over herself.
Totally read that as torrential.
So, the Stones do a 2 song set and include "You Got Me Rockin'" from Voodoo Lounge? Really? Was that for Everton's benefit?
that cut me some slackers sounds more like an aerosmith song than something that a nirvana and a paul mccartney would create.
yeah, it was cool to see them playing together and it wasn't embarrassingly awful or anything but i can't see ever listening to it on purpose again.
we need to CUT THEM SOME SLACK, TOM. THAT IS WHY THEY TITLED THE SONG THAT. WE ARE WAY TOO CRITICAL OF EVERYTHING.
YOU'RE TAKIN AWAY MY LAST CHAAAANCE!
Oh, Courtney Love. What an idiot. And why would she be okay with John but not Paul? Sounds like an attention troll.
I heard bad things about Kanye, too, but I didn't get to watch. Was Paul just performing with Nirvana, or did he do his/Beatles stuff, too?
yeah, she needs to autosuicide tout de suite.
I liked that it didn't sound like Nirvana or Paul.... it was a song created from a Jam session. I like that better than I would if they did something that sounded exactly like Nirvana--that's what I was afraid would happen. I don't see myself listening to it regularly, but I still think it was a pretty awesome moment.
my point was that it sounds like aerosmith of all things. perhaps aerosmith is the logical middle-ground at which those two entities meet, but it's still kind of surprising to me.
Hey Courtney Love! You're having a great career right now....oh wait you're not.
He did Beatles, Wings, and solo stuff.
