Summary: Mace Windu's last student was...unique. Rose is owned by DC Comics. Everything else belongs to the Great Lucas.

    ----

"Another troubled child with attachments outside the order, we allow?" Master Yoda asked.

"She only knew her father," Mace replied. "And she is glad to be rid of him."

"Hatred too can be an attachment," Yoda mused softly. "And of the Dark Side, it unquestionably is."

"Then we must try to cure her of it."

The girl they were discussing was seven years old. Her naturally white hair was unusual for a human. One eye had been lost beyond any attempt that could be made by cellular regeneration healing units. She wore a white silk eyepatch over it. She was sad, and bitter, and alone.

Yoda seemed to consult the Force. "Train her, you will, Mace. Your greatest student, she shall be."

Mace blinked at him. "If you say so, Master Yoda."

"There is no if, just as there is no why."

    ----

Rose grew in power each day. She was likened in some ways to Anakin Skywalker. Like him, she spurned the traditional Jedi look. Unlike him, her robes were of traditional cut and form, but instead of the normal brown or his darker shades, they were a garish orange and blue.

As soon as possible she learned two weapon combat from her Master, Mace Windu. Wielding two purple blades like his, she was formidable in battle.

She was clearly interested in Anakin. And perhaps he would've responded, if his attentions were not focused....elsewhere.

    ----

The Sith Lord Darth Sidious brooded in the shadows. This girl interested him. Perhaps he should change his plans for his next apprentice. Perhaps his next student would be a woman of fury and power, leading the extermination of the Jedi.

This girl child could be your weapon. She could be Darth Ravager, your will made flesh in hate, the Dark Side seemed to whisper.

Sidious thought about it. But in the end, Skywalker was simply more powerful, and more useful.

    ----

"I want to go with you!" Rose protested when Mace left her behind as he went to Geonosis.

"No Rose, you are not yet ready. This is a great battle. Don't be so eager to kill and risk your own death."

Rose bowed her head. "I only wish to serve at your side, Master."

He stroked her hair. "I know you do. But you are not ready, yet."

    ----

But ready or not, she was soon embroiled in the Clone Wars, like everyone else. She was a whirlwind of destruction, and soon the Clones came to respect her, even fear her.

Eventually she found her father amongst a group of slavers working for the Separatists.

She smiled grimly and lifted her sabers to strike. But at that moment....

    Execute Order 66.

It will be done my lord.

    "What?" Rose whirled.

Her father grinned and lifted a blaster. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Rose dropped flat. The clones killed her father, and her father killed a clone on his way down.

Rose unleashed her fury in a purple blaze.

    She escaped alive.

    ----

Obi-Wan and Yoda looked at her glumly.

"The last three adult Jedi, we are," Yoda said. "You will take the four surviving Padawan to Dagobah."

"I have never heard of it," she said frowning.

"The coordinates, I will give you."

    ----

Rose did indeed take the children to Dagobah, but she did not stay there long. Once Yoda arrived, he sent her out again, to face what she must.

Rose didn't know the world's name. It was dismal, and rainy, and industrial, and depressing.

Asajj Ventress was waiting for her.

"So you've become his hand, his lackey," Rose sneered. "How pathetic."

"You should be thankful it wasn't Vader," Asajj gloated.

"Like you, Vader serves an unworthy man. I already suffered one, my father. There will never be another."

"For you tehre will never be anything!" Asajj screamed.

    "We shall see."

Lightning crashed as their sabers smashed together. A twirling lethal dance of two dual-wielding specialists.

Slash, parry, parry, duck, block, duck, overhead slam, swipe, block.

    Finally

    Oh very well done! =D=

"Hatred too can be an attachment," Yoda mused softly. "And of the Dark Side, it unquestionably is."

This line was absolutely stunning! =D=
