Discussion Royalties: What kind of cut does the cast get?

With all the talk of Hamill, Ford and Fisher possibly being in negotiations for Episode VII, I wonder if any of the actors will be trying to get a larger cut of the royalties this time around. I have no idea how much they got for the original trilogy, but considering the massive amounts of money that Lucasfilm has made using the likenesses of these three for the past 30+ years, it seems like they would want more. I wonder how it feels for them to keep seeing new merchandise coming out with their faces on it, and they're not making a cent from it? I think it would be a nice gesture to offer the main actors that built the Star Wars franchise at least a small stake in Lucasfilm so they can continue to profit from their work and the usage of their likenesses years down the road.

 

Carrie Fisher was demanding pi, 3.14%. So they built that into her contract which turned out to be a mistake.
Because she meant pie!

If there is anybody who is gunna be worried about their likeness being everywhere till the end of time, its the new cast. Because once you are in star wars you can never run away from it. It's with you...forever....there is no going back *unless george lucas CGIs you out*.

 

They should cast a new Luke, Leia, and Han for the ST and CGI them into the OT. That way they can keep costs down.

 

That way the can be done in the way Lucas wanted them to be all along, but couldn't because he didn't have the technology.

 

They will make a nice payday, but royalties are doubtfull and not that common for actors. Thats not to say they dont deserve it though.......

 

Ford wants 15%

 

Let their payment be the fact that they're in blockbuster movies again

It's a little different when we're dealing with films of this budget. Chances are they'll just get a buyout. Points are generally used when the budget is low to lure people in and often when they can't pay full rates.

According to various reads, the actors got their salaries and a % of the profits(Lucas gave out profit points to everyone during the OT, even ILM's janitor). But I dont think it was something ongoing. I think he just gave them profit participation one-time but not ongoing.

 

I'd imagine getting Hamill and Fisher back would be fairly cheap since they're not like A-list actors who demand like 3 million for a film. Ford...maybe a bit more but it seems like nowadays he's accepting every film under the sunlight so no worries about him not coming back.

They offered Mark Hamill $5 million & no profits......Carrie Fischer $3 million & no profits but Harrison Ford was the hardest to get so he was offered $15 million plus 1 % of the total gross ( could be up to $36 million) ......

What ever Harrison gets he's worth it because he's raked in a lot if cash in the last few block busters he's been in lately like....ummm....well there's....aaahhhh....is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade to far back to count???

 

Mark got his salary and 1.5% of the profits for Jedi (and before anyone goes "Source" - Time Magazine 1983). He also got one one every tie-in made.

I'd expect similar deals this time and is why Lucasfilm signed them before the sale to Disney.
