    Yes. At your house. :D

I think Tide of Flames also contributed to that surge: it's been one busy week with Mitth posing lists of questions left and right for me to answer... :D

    Summary

The highlight for the week of 12/08 was the strong surge of the Role Playing Resource Forum. Performing 70% above average, RPR put in almost 50 points less than the longtime leader SWRPF. This is likely to do with the RPR's Winter Ball, as well as very vigorous discussions in the Guilds and the Graphs thread. NSWRPF continued to perform strong as well, gaining almost 40% on its average, with Tide of Flames, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and the Way of the Ninja exhibiting strong growth trends. Both boards outperformed the JC as a whole by very large amounts. The only losing forum this week was SWRPF, dropping 6% this week. As the JC remains stable in activity, this represents a substantial comparative drop, and may explain SWRPF's slipping to the 14th position in the 30 Day Activity Report. These statistics may suggest that there may be a trade-off between RPFs, with one strengthening partly at the expense of the other. The averages for NSWRPF and RPR now stand at approximately equal levels, suggesting similar performances. The Community registered 756 posts this week, and more importantly its average post amount strengthened by 28 posts. Overall, this week was a very good one for the RPing Community.

    Summary

The week of 12/15 carried a few interesting surprises. SWRPF rebounded from last week's fall, making up some of its losses and having its average advance by almost 1.5 points. NSWRPF took a tumble, slipping six posts and loosing a post on its average. This has shifted things in the RPR's favor, giving it a strong advantage in the RPR vs. NSWRPF activity competition. RPR now stands as the second most active forum in the RPFs by over three posts. The community posting average rose two points this week, standing at slightly above 618 posts per week. Outside of the RPR, both Role Playing Boards were outperformed by the JC as a whole, which enjoyed a 9% uptick of activity this week. This places the NSWRPF's 4% decline in an even harsher light. RPR kept at the JC's activity, perhaps buoyed by extra traffic from the EUC pulled by the Holiday Ball. This report hypothesizes lower outcomes in the next upcoming weeks, as the holidays seem to usher in slower times. Whether this turns out to be the case will be told with time.

    Summary

This report was a four-week average report, measured over the holiday period, from 12/15 to 01/12. The SWRPF was the largest casualty, performing 20% under the average. This drop was felt in the RPF's tumble in the 30 Day Activity report, falling from 14th position to 16th position, as Senate, WNU, and NY Buffalo Fanforce outperformed the SWRPF. No drops were experienced in favorites or total post amounts. The good news is that while SWRPF fell, NSWRPF enjoyed a very vigorous holiday period. Rising over 20%, and lead by Dune, Oz, League, ToF, and increased activity in TROTSTATEOTG, it added 20 posts to its average. RPR was the hardest hit during the period, down by almost a quarter of its usual activity. Together, SWRPF and RPR outweighed the gains in NSWRPF, lending to a down period over the past month. The community average dropped 5%, with the average shedding 30 posts.

The report also gives the monthly report for December. Compared to November, December was a much better month for both the NSWRPF and RPR. Continuing the theme for this report, December was a very harsh month for the SWRPF, loosing something around 200 posts comparatively. NSWRPF's success is due to the vibrancy of the current games colonizing it, and RPR probably enjoyed some success due to the Holiday Ball.

To sum: SWRPF takes major hits, NSWRPF continues its growth, and RPR continues its roller-coaster like behavior.

As to analysis, it seems that SWRPF is definitely feeling the pinch of the slowdown more than other boards (though the JC as a whole did drop by 3% over this period). It is important to remember that the holidays are a major factor for skewing posting activities during this period. A reason SWRPF's decline and NSWRPF's growth could be the holiday affecting different areas of the RPF in different ways. If this is the case, it suggests that SWRPF and RPR has a more RL-sensitive group of posters, whereas the NSWRPF has a more stalwart group.

    Summary

This week experienced what is probably a correction from the prior set. After the holiday season, and perhaps also because of the four week averaging, totals have roared back up in every forum. SWRPF experienced the greatest growth, up 2/3 from its holiday measurements. NSWRPF and RPR experienced more modest growths, approximately 17 and 12% respectively. Averages grew in the RPing forums, while RPR is still performing under average. Community average experienced a healthy growth, almost wiping out the loss from last month.

A disturbing and confusing trend currently being monitored is SWRPF's gradual decline in the 30 Day Post Count measure from the Top Boards Index. While SWRPF's performance seems to be holding steady, it hasn't registered an increase since this thread began its monitoring. It was at 12th position as of early November, and has quietly and quickly dropped. While this would suggest the rest of the boards outperforming the RPF, the boards have been clocking primarily at average. This phenomenon is being studied closely, and this index hopes to have an explanation for it soon.

    Summary

This week was especially strong for all of the RPFs. Considering that the boards as a whole were less busy this week (lowered activity by .6%), RPFs continued gains are quite impressive. SWRPF, although dropping 25% from strong gains last week, SWRPF still is performing above its average. NSWRPF continued its amazing surge, building 69 posts off of last weeks totals. From the middle of last month, NSWRPF's average posts per week has grown by about 25%, and now, amazingly enough, its average stands only 25 posts away from SWRPF's. This relationship suggests but does not prove a trade-off between the two forums. As traffic shifts to the NSWRPF, the two forums move closer to parity.

This trade-off may also explain why SWRPF continues to fall in the 30 day activity count, now in a dismal 19th position. The new selected boards measure beginning today and continuing from here on will be able to see how close the RPF actually is to its competition in the 30 Day Count, as well as where the RPF as a community falls within the list.

RPR grew very strongly (by 50%) this week, its average rising four points to 133.85. Possible reasons for this include the discussion about the RPR Guilds, as well as the end of the Winter RPF Awards.

In conclusion, the RPing Community grew a healthy 2.24% this week, and we're currently 2677 posts from the RPing Community's 500,000 post celebration

    Summary

This week was marked another vigorous return of the SWRPF, roaring up almost 30% to 446 posts a week. This roar also coincided with a roaring back up the 30 day activity report, the SWRPF ascending 6 places to the 13th most active board over the 30 day period. This marks the first time the RPF has ascended in the 30 Day activity report over the course of this tracking thread. With total JC activity falling half a percent this week, gains here are rendered even more impressive.

NSWRPF and RPR had down weeks this week, RPR doing the worst off with 73 posts. This dropped its total average by 4 posts, to 129.50. NSWRPF, though dropping 43 posts from last week, is still performing healthily above its average, which it increased by 5 posts to almost 187 posts.

Total community averages increased again this week, jumping some 11 posts to 630.33. This indicates the continued strong growth of the community. The Community added as a whole 775 posts, putting it 1902 posts away from the 500K mark.

Additionally, January numbers are in for the month. January was the best month so far for both NSWRPF and SWRPF, and the worst month ever for RPR. RPR's best month was in December.

This report also completes the first measure for other boards. We can see from our cross-board measurements, we can see that the RPing Community as a whole is a powerful wing of the boards, able to compete with the SWC, EUC, Census, and (presumably) Lit. We've also seen that most of the board's weekly activities reside around 200-300 posts per week. NSWRPF needs to have consistent rates nearing 300 to attain membership on the Top 30 List.

On 1/30, NSWRPF managed to make it on to the 30 Day activity report. Although it is not currently on said list, its appearance shows its near the bottom, right under the lower bound of such a measure. We should be expecting more appearances from the NSWRPF in the future, should its activity hold.

    Summary

The Story for the Month of February is the juggernaut of the SWRPF. After being badgered and blustered over the months of December and January, it performed amazingly this September, surpassing by far the other two RPFs, and most of the other message boards currently on the index. With approximately 771.75 posts a week this month, the SWRPF's average post amount surged around 25%.

NSWRPF and RPR both performed marginally above average, with NSWRPF growing more vigorously than RPR. Combined with SWRPF, these two forums added 4825 posts over the month of February, with the community being the more active than any singular board on the forums except for the YJCC. It is presumed that the Fanfic community also outperformed the RPF community.

February was the most successful month for the RPF Community since this index began measuring in November. As a result, the community now averages over 750 posts a week. While this index hopes these numbers are signs of permanent growth, it is more likely this is a monthly spike and levels we will return to lower levels soon.

This spike is all the more impressive considering the JC took a 1% dive over the month. When the RPF surges while the JC slips, this is a strong sign of a vibrant community doing something right. Should these trends continue, the RPF Community will find themselves in positions of greater prominence.

    Summary

This is a long overdue mid-month update for this index. It measures activity over the six week span from 3/2/09 to 4/9. Weekly averages drawn from these numbers will reflect the average forced from this period, and may not show weekly spikes or drops. It, rather, should be considered a very general view of the RPFs trends for the last month and a half.

As to the contents here, the word of the day is down. Compared to February, March and the first half of April shows a massive drop. All RPF post levels dropped by 50% or more.

What we care about more however is the state of our long term averages. With 24 observations, these measures are becoming more and more accurate with each passing week. While February was marked by very strong growth, this trend was promptly erased in March.

SWRPF still had gains on its averages, due to its very low post levels in November and December. NSWRPF and RPR suffered losses however, falling 6 and 9 % respectively. SWRPF's gains canceled out NSWRPF and RPR's losses, more or less, and thus our community averages remained roughly stable. Rather than proving an absolute drop in posting levels in this community, this report shows a severe relative one from levels observed in February.

For monthly data, the SWRPF still rides high, with March being its second highest post amount on record. NSWRPF had its worst month, however, since November 2008, and the month of March was the RPR's worst month on record.

This slowdown is being felt board wide, with the Jedi Council losing more than 500 posts a week during the measurement period, a drop of 3% or so off of its normal average. While there are definite winners and losers across the forums (SWC and WNU as clear winners, RPF, EUC, and YJCC as clear losers), the stability of the SWRPF on the 30 Day Activity Report suggests all forums are struggling relatively equally during this slowdown.

With the upcoming summer months approaching, it remains anyone's guess if the boards will accelerate or remain in this malaise.

No, it's merely that the Global Financial Crisis has finally trickled through to the RPF. Hammer and I are presently typing up a submission for Obama to consider in which the US Government would buy off all our bad posts.

    Summary

As expected, the Summer has wrought its carnage upon our RPF post levels. All measures on all boards reported losses, and NSWRPF and RPR reported their lowest months in the record. Surprisingly, SWRPF performed worse during the winter months of 2009, so these months have not been all bad for that board.

Our community average dropped a stunning 53.8 points, though we are still holding above 700 posts.

If there was a silver lining to this news, its that the RPF is not suffering alone. While many of the boards are still doing fine, like YJCC, Amph, and SWC, a good deal of them are also performing at unusually low levels. This suggests that this problem is systemic, and not something that we're not doing something terribly wrong. Bear in mind however, that there does exist room for improvement, as RPF has fallen quite a bit in comparison to other boards we usually outperform. Maybe only about 250 posts a month from where we should be at this time (as opposed to a thousand or two if we took it relatively).

In short, it is bleak, but not impossibly so. If we keep our heads up, be strong, and work hard, we'll get out of this slump stronger than ever. :)

    Courage RPF!
