Kronos stepped back, clearly startled. "Well you're clearly not Kralkus. Any idea where he is?" he started to say, before an expression of slowly dawning realization overtook his face. "He set me up," a sigh followed his words.

He stood for a moment, seeming to size up the Dark Lord, his lightsaber humming as he slashed listlessly at the air. Haretisch stared quietly, eyeing the apprentice like an insect. At last Kronos charged forward, hurling his lightsaber in a spiraling arc towards his opponent's neck.

Haretisch rose his blade and deflected the errant lightsaber with a simple one handed parry. Had he wished it, he could have destroyed the weapon with ease. Instead, he let it continue on its course past him.

"Fear emanates from you now like the stink of a rotting corpse poisons the air," Haretisch hissed, neglecting even to turn and face the apprentice. "You hesitate like a frightened child," he said, and rose a hand to just above his shoulder. From it, he released a burst of force lightning upon Kronos. Not his full power - such would reduce him to char almost immediately - but enough to fill him with crippling pain for a few moments should it find its mark.

His open hand turned loosely to a fist as the attack abated, and it fell back to his side. "A wounded beast does not hesitate in attack," he noted, still facing away. "Use your fear. Use your pain. Only by giving yourself over fully to the dark side can you defeat me. It is not enough to know the force - you must disappear into it. Give over to your rage and let the *force* guide you!"

The lightsaber Kronos threw was easily deflected by Haretisch, as the blade returned to Kronos' hand. Kronos looked at the blade, disappointed that his plan did not work.

Now, Haretisch faced away from Kronos, uttering some speech about how he is too fearful. "Use your fear and pain", just like any Sith. He listened, despite everything. He didn't want to make the Shadow Hand angry, especially that he is on his way to become a Master.

Then, a Force Lightning move surprised Kronos. Surprised, but not wounded. His reflexes were fast enough so that Kronos could deflect the attack with his lightsaber.

Seems relatively low power for someone as powerful as Haretisch.

    He thought for a bit.

Oh. Probably not at his full power... how nice of him.

Kronos put his mind back into the task at hand: defeat the Shadow Hand... as an Apprentice. He needed a much better plan than to just... throw your weapon at him. But, what could that be? He seemed to know every move Kronos made before he made it.

He got an idea. Kronos grabbed a random piece of rubble from the abandoned Geonosis arena, and sent it right at Haretisch. A little later, Kronos lit it up with Force Lightning, as powerful as it could be given is ranking. The rubble, now encased in Force Lightning was flying towards Haretisch. Whether or not this worked remained to be seen.

A crooked smile crossed the Dark Lord's features as Kronos deftly blocked the force lightning with his lightsaber. He had expected the apprentice to perhaps shrink away - to assume himself too weak, and to take the full brunt of the attack. But it was meager, and in any case Kronos had shown great nerve in attempting to defend at all.

"Impressive," Haretisch remarked, as he felt the young one reach out with the force, capturing a large stone and infusing it with force lighting of his own before hurling it towards the Shadow Hand.

The attack was creative, but he avoided it with reasonable ease, launching himself straight upward with the aid of the force. He flipped in midair, twisting to right himself, and came down gracefully now facing his opponent.

"Most impressive," he added, before throwing a hand forward to retaliate. Behind Kronos, a freestanding stone pillar began to rumble violently. It was large - a man's height in diameter, and possibly as much as twenty five feet in height. Dust and pebbles stirred and fell about for a moment before the pillar cracked and toppled over in two pieces.

It fell towards Kronos, who would be crushed if he did not react quickly.

The Dark Lord settled into his holographic seat. Holographic because he had little intention on spending time with bugs. Thankfully Vader had sterilised the world after the rebellion against the Empire just to keep the Death Star secret for a little longer.

When his signal was fully established, he simply said. 'Have you killed him yet, Kronos?'

'Go for his knees if you want a chance! He's older than he lets on!'

    Insipid grinned at them accordingly.

The miasma of the hologram's blurry edge warped, as if being pulled towards a singularity, bleeding more and more blue light until coalescing into the apparition of a pale man.

A Force Phantom of the Dread Lord was once again here to observe the final trial of an aspiring Sith Master, and to shamelessly flirt with his fellow Triumvir, in all likelihood.

A suspiciously dripping book was held in one hand, likely some tome of very dubious origin freshly liberated from a bloodbath, while his other descended to begin massaging Insipid's shoulder.

Of course, his gauntleted hand passed right through the holographic shoulder, but he wasn't going to let a little thing like ethereality get in the way.

He threw the book down to the arena sands. It was a spellbook, with some ritual of conjuring fire inscribed within, as Darth Wyyrlok had done to Darth Andeddu. Perhaps Kronos would find it useful.

    "Impressive... Most impressive"

Darth Haretisch had said this to Darth Kronos in response to his attack. Haretisch was impressed, even if he dodged it with ease.

Haretisch thrust his hand upward, but... it didn't seem to do anything. Maybe he wanted a high-five?

Then, Kronos heard the crack of the pillar behind him. He shut off his lightsaber and rolled to the left in a choreographed pattern, as if he had practiced this move many times. The pillar fell to the ground with a loud thud, and it broke into three, large pieces.

A voice called out to Kronos: "Go for his knees of you want a chance! He's older than he let's on!"

Go for the knees.... Good plan. Kronos wished he came up with it himself. But, maybe that was why he wasn't a Master... yet. He looked back at the broken pillar which was now to the right side of him. He reached out with his hand, and clenched his fist. One piece of the broken pillar was crushed into much smaller, sharper pieces. He hurled each and every piece he had to Haretisch, primarily aiming for the knees. Some pieces were headed for his chest and head.

Best use some Force Lightning on that.

The Force power shot out of his fingers, wrapping the pillar pieces within it.

    There we go.

Haretisch lifted a hand in front of him, and the shards of stone which Kronos had hurled were halted. Stopped only a few feet short of missing their mark, they sat suspended in midair for a moment, crackling with electricity.

With a fanged grin, he released them to fall to the ground without dispersing the Lightning that encased them - though he could have done so. The energy reached out to lick at him and found purchase. His muscles tensed painfully as he allowed the lightning to fully find its mark.

His connection to the dark side was deepened by the lingering pain of his electrocution - as was his rage. He drew upon it, and braced his knees to launch himself forward. He leapt, pushing the energy down and through the soles of his boots to propel himself forward. In an instant, he had closed the distance to Kronos, and brought his lightsaber downward in a crushing two-handed blow aimed to split the apprentice from head to pelvis.

Haretisch had stopped each of the shards of stone in midair.

    Well, that's unfortunate.

But, somehow, some of the Force Lightning made it through his defenses, electrocuting his body. Now, he was fueled with rage. Haretisch made a powerful lunge to Kronos, raising his blade for a killing blow.

Instead of trying to block the strike. Kronos lunged out of the way, hopinh he would strike at air instead of his blade. Kronos wasn't stupid. He knew he couldn't block a strike as powerful as his. Especially when he is only an Apprentice.

Kronos was still close enough, however, to make an attack on Haretisch. He swung his blade to Haretisch's legs, intending of cutting them off.

His attack swung free of the slippery Kronos, who dodged and countered with a low slash to the knees. Haretisch shifted to block, and the smell of ozone filled the air as their blades met.

He held the low blade lock and pressed the attack, taking a sudden step forward to place himself within half an arm's reach of the apprentice - a range so close that a lightsaber was cumbersome to the point of uselessness.

Then he loaded up, and pivoted at the shoulders as he unleashed a furious backhand aimed for Kronos' jaw.

He couldn't remove his eyes from the exchange. Haretisch wasn't pulling his punches. If Kronos wasn't careful, he would be split in two. It was very close, and Insipid could see that jaw shattering backhand a moment before Haretisch unleashed it.

Insipid winced in advance of the blow connecting, if it indeed did, but the speed and force behind the hand was incredible.

Kronos' strike as Haretisch's knees was easily blocked. He kept the two sabers in a saber lock.

Haretisch then rose his hand, and swung it right at Kronos' jaw. If he did not get out of the way in time, Kronos' jaw would be shattered.

Kronos was luckily fast enough. He ducked out of the way of the fist, while also attempting to not allow Haretisch to strike a blow to him with his lightsaber.

He needed a counter attack, however. Thinking quickly, Kronos aimed a powerful kick right at Haretisch's knee cap, intending on breaking his leg. He wanted to cripple the dark lord. He wanted to end this fight as quickly as possible and as safely as possible.

He was surprised to see Kronos dodge that. Insipid realised that speed was his gift. But speed didn't win a fight, and definitely didn't win a Trial. Insipid had high hopes of Kronos; he best not fail.

Kronos ducked, evading the backhand in an impressive show of agility, and craftily aimed a kick for the Shadow Hand's knee with enough force to ruin the limb permanently.

Most would have sidestepped the attack, or simply shifted weight enough to lift the leg off of the ground and absorb the blow with minimal damage. Too predictable. Instead, Haretisch dug his heels into the sand, expecting Kronos to commit to the attack.

But he had no intention of absorbing the blow - he would ensure it would never land. He sprung upward ever so slightly at the knees, and then threw the entirety of his weight downward through his fist. He aimed to drive it directly into Kronos attacking appendage, just below the knee, with considerable force. If it landed, the kick would be violently redirected, and Kronos would be left both off-balance and with a severely sore limb.

Halfway through the motions of the kick was when Darth Kronos realized Haretisch's intentions. He immediately attempted to swing the leg that was attacking back into place. But the speed of his fist was too great. It had slammed against Kronos' leg when it was just about back in place. The attack made Kronos stumble during the saber lock, and fall to the sandy ground. The only positive thing to come out of this was that Kronos was fast enough so that Haretisch's fist did not get the perfect strike against his leg. The pain was less severe than what it would have been if he was not trained as well as he was.

Kronos wasn't able to keep up the saber lock anymore. He had stumbled too far. The young Sith fell to the ground with a thud. Thinking quickly (as he always did), Kronos threw his lightsaber up in the air and held it there with the Force. He then put all of his weight onto his arms, and thrust his entire body forward. He pushed off the sandy floor with his arms, landing on his feet. Kronos allowed his lightsaber to return to his hand. He reignited it. He began to step back from Haretisch, hoping to create distance between the two.

Going for the knees is too predictable at this point. He will just be expecting it.

Kronos resorted to throwing pieces of rubble encased in Force Lightning at Haretisch. But, Kronos also began to move to the Shadow Hand. He brought his blade to his free hand. Kronos shocked his blade with his Lightning power, also wrapping it in the power. He hoped that the rubble pieces would distract the Sith Lord just long enough so that he could get a strike in. Even if Haretisch could block the strike, the lightning could travel to the Shadow Hand and hit him that way. That, or it could break his lightsaber. Or both. Kronos hoped for both.

Kronos rose his weapon in an attack form. He brought the weapon down on Haretisch. Whether or not he would dodge or block it remained to be seen.

Kronos stumbled as Haretisch's fist met his leg - he was able to adjust enough to soften the blow but was still thrown to the sandy ground by the pondering strike. Continuing to display impressive agility, he threw his lightsaber into the air during his descent, and used the both hands to spring back into a standing position, collecting his lightsaber as he did, and taking a step back.

Haretisch watched as he conjured yet another creative force attack, attempting to pelt him with electrified rubble before closing in for a lightsaber strike. His blade, too, was energized with force lightning - hoping to perhaps short out the Dark Lord's blade with a surge of energy.

He stood perfectly still as he parted the wave of rubble down the middle, and each half breezed harmlessly past him. An instant later, he lifted a hand to halt Kronos' blade only inches from its mark, and held it - and Kronos - firmly in place for what was sure to be a few agonizingly long moments.

His eyes locked menacingly with that of the apprentice for a brief time, and then he released a silent burst of force energy powerful enough to pierce completely through Kronos' defenses and send him careening back fully airborne, towards the largest chunk of the felled pillar - which was at least still rounded rather than jagged. It would be a painful collision, but in no way fatal even if fully unmitigated.

Haretisch had easily swiped the pieces of rubble out of his way, which was to be expected. But, what surprised Kronos was that he was stopped in his tracks with ease. Haretisch had froze him - as well as the electrocuted lightsaber - thus making sure he could not move.

Haretisch had kept him here for what felt like eons. And all he did during this time was stare at him menacingly. He released a powerful Force Burst at Kronos, sending him flying into the only piece of broken pillar that wasn't sharpened. The blow did hurt - a lot - but it was weird. Haretisch could have easily threw him to a jagged piece, and killed him instantly.

Guess I'm just too much fun.

Kronos slowly rose up, his arm shaking as he put all of his weight on them. To the side of him, Kronos picked up his lightsaber, now off, and with no electrical charge. He grabbed it, and ignited it once again. He was lucky it even turned on, given the hard blow, and the electrical charge it had. He swung it.

Rage suddenly fueled him. He was humiliated again, which was made eve worse considering there was an audience watching. And even worse as they were high ranking within the Sith Empire. He clenched his fist around his lightsaber. He began to charge.

Kronos began to throw and electrify everything he could grab with the Force: pieces of the broken pillar (now sharpened), chunks out of the wall of the Geonosis Arena, skulls and bones from the dead Jedi all those years ago. Kronos even shocked his own lightsaber again, hoping for a more powerful blow.

Once he would be close enough to Haretisch, Kronos would then push himself off of the ground in a front-flip, aiming to get behind the Shadow Hand. Once he would do that, Kronos would then aim a powerful two-handed strike to Haretisch's back. If this plan worked, Kronos was likely to win the fight. Unless Haretisch had a bigger plan up his sleeve.

Throughout all of this, yellow had infested Kronos' eyes.

Occasionally, a trial could leave one spellbound. It could make one shy away at the violence displayed, make you take breath in sharply at the twists, make you palpably flinch when a potentially lethal blow landed too close.

Occasionally the displays of cunning and raw violence were such that one could almost visualise the inevitable harm, you could almost hear the shattering of bones to pulp, you could almost taste the blood in the mouths of the recipient of a potentially organ damaging blow.

Occasionally the Force boiled with the kind of rage that could birth stars.

The best fights were always those between master and apprentice, former or current, the almost familial bond rent and shredded by the wounds they had inflicted to each other, the surge of anger funnelled by feelings of envy, or disappointment, or both.

    Occasionally.

Insipid, throwing aside that he was a Dark Lord of the Sith, allowing himself to emphasise with the fight before him, decided that this was one such occasion.

Insipid reached out to get a sense of Kronos, to illuminate himself as to the pain he was feeling, to the inevitable exhaustion nibbling at him. The man was exuding such a powerful sense of strength, powered by his indignant fury, masking whatever harm he had most certainly incurred.

Insipid expected he would applaud so much he might bloody his hands, after this display.

Kronos had seemingly gone into a crazed fit as he lifted himself from the dirt, clearly wounded both in body and ego.

In his rage, he summoned a storm of electrified rubble and dust particles, launching them at Haretisch to cover his approach. Haretisch stood in the wake of the storm and allowed the full brunt of it to fall upon him - a whirlwind of rocks, dust, long undisturbed remains of the Jedi who had fallen there - it all found its mark.

And he felt nothing. His robes now frayed and dirtied, his cloak torn to shreds, he stood unphased by the assault, his body encased in a force barrier.

Kronos continued his charge, and sailed over the Shadow Hand with a force assisted leap. He bore down upon him with a fearsome two-handed strike, and blades clashed with a sizzle as the lightning which had charged one was absorbed and dispersed. Kronos' eyes glowed a sickly yellow. He had given himself over fully to his rage.

The mark of a master is often said not to be power, but control - the skill to harness one's abilities to their full extent, on demand. The student may have off days - days on which they may fall short of the full potential of the sum of their learned skills and natural talents. A master - a true master - shows no such inconsistency.

Kronos now knew how to harness his rage on demand. His life had not been in danger, nor did he suffer any grievous physical wounds. What he had suffered was humiliation, and the explosion of power that had resulted was not one of life-saving necessity, but of choice. His flame burned brightly.

Now, that flame needed to be extinguished.

With lightning quickness, Haretisch aimed an open palm strike for Kronos forehead - intending to startle him with the impact and temporarily break his focus - and latched on with his gloved fingers, partially capturing the apprentice's mask, and partially clutching at his hair.

Then he summoned a jagged spike of force energy, and drove it into the neural pathways of Kronos' mind. He would be rendered temporarily paralyzed and invalid, unable to move or think or speak. Haretisch could have hollowed out the apprentice entirely with the attack had he chose to do so - could have left him a gibbering mindless vegetable - but it would have been a horrific waste of a promising young Sith.

Anticipating that the psychic attack would find its mark, he pushed forcefully downward upon Kronos' forehead, intending to force him onto his knees so that it could be finished. His wits would only be gone from him for a moment, though the pain would linger for much longer.

The random pieces of junk Kronos threw at Hareisch all found its mark. It was just a shame he used a Force Sheild around him. But, Kronos had prepared for this, with his two-handed strike at the Shadow Hand. He leaped over him, aiming a blow to his back. The two sabers met. But, the attack did not work in the way Kronos planned. Instead of having Haretisch's lightsaber break, it... remained intact. Disappointed by this, Kronos pushed even harder and harder into the saber lock, hoping to push him down. Kronos did this again... and again -

An open palm smashed into Kronos' face. Even with the mask on, it still startled him, and hurt too. His mask was being partially grabbed, along with his hair. Like anyone would do, Kronos struggled to get out, but it was no use. His lightsaber was useless at this moment, as he was still in a saber lock.

Kronos felt a powerful spike of Force Energy. Then, he felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. He had seemed to have spaced out during this fight.

His senses returned to him, just as Haretisch was pushing down on him with the same Force Energy Strike. He was now on his knees. But, he was too angry and filled with rage to feel any fear towards the Shadow Hand. He looked up at him, staring at him in the eyes. He heaved a sigh, which only hurt the Apprentice even more.

He closed his eyes, focusing as hard as he could given the situation. He was trying to use his favorite attack: throw rubble at the opponent in the general head to body region. Whether or not Haretisch knew about this... remained to be seen. To prepare, just in case Haretisch dodged the attack, Kronos used more of his strength to put up a Force Shield around him. It wasn't his strongest he ever made, which was probably why Haretisch could still penetrate it. But, they were still in a saber lock. So, with his last bit of power and strength, Kronos swung his lightsaber with immense speed, hoping to disarm the Shadow Hand, and gain the advantage in the lightsaber duel.

Kronos had become near-uncontrollable. An attack which was intended to finish the duel only seemed to enrage him further, and Haretisch braced his knees as the soon-to-be master came at him with another crushing lightsaber blow. He blocked the attack soundly with his own saber, and allowed the rubble which Kronos had once again hurled toward him to shower down on the pair of them - it was a fairly easy task to throw up another barrier to protect himself.

Where the Shadow Hand had held back before in the interest of allowing young Kronos to grow into his power, there now was no such concern. The task was done - the trial completed. Now he sought only to bring him to heel. Still caught in a fierce blade lock, arcs of crackling electricity danced in the spaces between his fingers as he gathered his focus, and all at once he unleashed the full extent of his capability in the art of force lightning. But not upon Kronos - upon his lightsaber.

A gigantic surge of energy coursed through the Dark Lord's blade, and then into that of Kronos. Had such a burst of force lightning been unleashed upon Kronos himself, he would be reduced to ashes. As it was, the energy would be enough to cause Kronos' hilt to explode violently in his face. Haretisch strengthened his force barrier to the point that he would be a bit scorched, but otherwise unharmed by the explosion. He silently hoped Kronos' mask would save him being made too terribly ugly by the flame and shrapnel.

Haretisch had put up a Force Barrier around him to protect himself from all the rubble.

Then, he concentrated a powerful blast of Force Lightning to Kronos' lightsaber, attempting to blow it up. It did work, but the violent explosion did not harm Kronos, due to his Force Shield, and his helmet, which protected his face and head. His lightsaber was now just a pile of scraps on the ground. This, of all things, did not anger Kronos. He knew he could easily build another one, given his training.

His rage burst now finally subsiding, Kronos just sat there, on his knees, waiting for Haretisch to say something to him.

Haretisch looked down at Kronos, who appeared to have been calmed rather effectively and suddenly by his weapon having exploded from his hands. He had shown great power and control over the course of the duel. Haretisch was pleased.

He extended a hand - not to assist, but to gesture him to stand.

"Arise, Lord Kronos," he said, "It is done. You have succeeded in your final trial. Let us return to the temple, where a ceremony shall be held in your honor, and the title of master granted to you."

Darth Kronos now stood up, side by side with Haretisch. His trail was now complete. And he was just happy that the fight was over. Kronos went alongside Haretisch to the Sith Temple, so he could be knighted as a Master.
