An unexpected counter. The Night Herald’s fingers never found purchase, nor did the growing tingle of electricity in the air become anything more. But for the chaos, one might have even felt tiny hairs standing on end with the gathering static, but it was not to be.

Instead of an arc of lightning, the attack was warded off by deft bladework from the Wookiee, and Haretisch was forced to snatch his hand back and whirl out of range. Back he dove, rolling off one shoulder and coming up on one knee and one hand with his lightsaber humming in the other, cape fluttering behind. In and out of range and in and out again. Way of the hawk-bat, indeed.

His plasteel bracer was left smoking by the glancing blow he had taken in retreat - Ravenous was far too quick and agile to be so oppressively large. Haretisch would have to be more clever.

Nearby, the remnants of his likeness lay carved in stone and broken in pieces on the ground. His eyes flicked to the mass, and with a scrape the greater and lesser of it was lifted into the air. He flexed, exerting himself in the force, and at last his eyes fixed on the Sithspawn opposite him. He stood to his full height, and only then did he extend a hand to grasp the air as a surrogate for the statue.

With titanic force he heaved it upward and then back down again where it crashed into the ground between the combatants and shattered like glass. Pieces of rock large and small were thrown about, a dust cloud left in its wake.

And then from the cloud, the Night Herald rocketed forward. He emerged with lightsaber blazing, arcing across with speed and fury in a wide path aimed to remove both of the Wookiee’s hands in one go.

"We can have a timeout if you want," Master Fenton answered. "Or we could continue and see where the fight will lead us." Junko thought he looked genuinely neutral about both options, holding his lightsaber more casually than before, probably in case she rushed him again.

Junko weighed the options in her mind. This sparring match had already revealed so many things to her about herself, and she hadn't even sat down, distraction-free, to intentionally think about it yet. She was eager to learn and practice more, but she was sure there would be no shortage of opportunities for that in the future. Perhaps for now it would be best to retire and spend some time reflecting on her choices, motivations, and reactions during today's practice duel.

Junko nodded to her master. "If we can, I think I'd like to stop for now," she said. "I would like time to reflect on this combat practice experience to learn the most from it." She dismissed her blade and bowed to her master. "Thank you for your time and training."

Titus deactivated his lightsaber and returned Junkos bow, proud how well his apprentice had held herself in her first serious sparring. He knew she would undoubtebly spent some time reflecting the fight and learning from the few mistakes she had made.
"Anytime," he answered her, before continuing. "Though before you retire to your quaters we should have the medical center have a look at our burns, they are mostly superficial but still, we should allways tend our wounds first after a fight."

    IC: Darth Ravenous (Sith-Spawn)
    Sith Temple Courtyard...

The Sith-Spawn crossed his sabers to prepare against the impact of the statue. He saw the blade of Haretisch glow through the dust cloud he had made and it was headed towards him.

"The slaves are going to have their work cut out for them with all this debris... And dead Dark Lord pasted on it!"

Ravenous readied himself for the attack with his Lightsabers and stretched his appendages outwards, surrounding himself. As the Night Herald approached, Ravenous called a wall of now razor sharp shattered statue towards himself. In theory, the wall would stab the Night Herald from behind and effectively blocking the Sith-Spawn as it would be absorbed by Haretisch. Even if Ravenous would be hit due to his frame being larger than him, it wouldn't be any vital organs as Haretisch would absorb any center mass debris. Ravenous did notice some more slaves congregating around their fallen peer and cleaning his remains up. A contingency plan perhaps?

The smell of ozone filled the air as sabers clashed, and Darth Haretisch stood in the unenviable position of being in a blade lock with a Wookiee. A mutated one, at that.

He might have expected Ravenous to make an attempt at physically overpowering him, to crush him to the ground. That would have been smart - would have played to the Wookiee’s strengths. It might have even worked.

He might have expected Ravenous to peel off with one saber after blocking, slipping beneath his guard and gutting him where he stood. Such maneuvers were an advantage held by those who would dual wield, over those who kept the old ways. And it might have worked.

He may even have expected Ravenous to dodge the attack entirely, to turn the ferocity of his assault into naught but wasted motion and energy - a well known Achilles heel of Ataru practitioners. This, too, might have worked.

But High Lord Ravenous did none of these things. Instead he chose to call the shrapnel from the crushed statue, to draw it violently into the Night Herald’s back, with his own body in its path were something to go wrong. This was a mistake.

Shards of crushed stone rushed forward as commanded, jagged bits at the fore, ready to shred all in their way. And Darth Haretisch, smaller, quicker, and more agile than his opponent, did the only thing he needed to do.

    He stepped aside.

Edo stretched a bit as she waited for her Padawan to join her. This open area was a place she frequented. It was a rather untraditional sparring venue, but it was large, out of the way, and peaceful. A large tree trunk was on the ground nearby, apparently from a tree that was downed in a storm, but not quite cleared up yet. Pity, she thought. It had been so wonderful with its tall and sprawling branches.

Her Padawan had arrived. "Right on time," she said jokingly, as she had simply asked him to meet her here with two training sabers. She picked up one of the identical pair. "I of course have my own, but I thought it best if we both used these."

She ignited it, and gave him a beckoning smile.

Blade strolled eagerly into the temple courtyard, carrying two training lightsabers in his hand. The courtyard was a beautiful, wide open space; the sun was shining and there was a light, pleasant breeze. His Master had requested his presence there to begin his advanced lightsaber training and practice sparring. He found her there, patiently waiting on him. "Right on time," she joked. He playfully rolled his eyes. "Punctuality is one of my best assets, Master," he retorted. She grabbed one of the pair. "I of course have my own, but I thought it best if we both used these." Blade nodded in response. "Shall we begin, Master?" She ignited her lightsaber with a beckoning smile, in response. He ignited his own, in turn.

He ignited the saber without moving, not being the first to strike. Edo thought it was jedi-like, and nodded her head in approval. Hmm... Her Padawan wanted to improve his Ataru, did he not?

She tried first a swing at his left hip, using a regular two-handed grip. The miraluka wanted to see how he would avoid or block that, having not yet practiced with her Padawan.

Blade ignited his saber and waited for a response, not wanting to be the first to strike. He carefully studied Master Vilsa's reaction and tried to gauge what her first move would be. She seemed to nod in approval. Then, she swung at his left hip. He leapt back out of the way of the oncoming blade just in time, aided by the Force, and parried it with his own. Then, he decided to go on the offensive and launched a barrage of strikes, trying to test his Master's strengths and weaknesses and seeing if he could wear her down.

Edo breathed in and out. Blade had jumped out of the way but still blocked with his saber. "Good thinking," she said. "Some might be able to predict your jump and alter their strike, but you stayed aware of the blades."

He then went into what was apparently his strong suit: Ataru acrobatics. First, having backed up, he twirled around, spinning into his next swing at her shoulder. Edo shunted the blade down, but Blade was on the move again, attempting to use his momentum to hit her in several places. Edo marveled at the speed of her Padawan; his acrobatics seemed to be a special gift of his. She decided to take a different approach. She hopped back over the fallen branches, and lightly force pushed some of the smaller ones back at her Padawan.

Blade looked in awe as Master Vilsa deftly evaded his every strike. He paused for a brief moment; panting, sweat on his brow, having overexerted himself in his flurry of strikes and looked on as his Master gracefully leapt back over the fallen branches of the run-down courtyard tree. Then, wisely using the environment to her advantage, she lightly force pushed a few of the smaller branches from the fallen tree towards him. The wave of energy sent debris; pebbles, dirt, and the fallen tree branches flying towards him. The particles of dirt stung his eyes making it hard to see, as he slashed at the oncoming tree branches. He was pelted by a few pebbles and the smaller branches of the tree he missed, as he cleaved the remaining bigger ones in half. When the little vortex finally subsided, he decided to close the gap between himself and his Master by performing an overhead leaping strike aiming for his Master's torso.

Edo was a bit concerned for Blade, but he was able to counter the light branches she cast his way. He then leaped at her, and from above, swung his blade down at her torso. Edo managed to raise her blade in what she thought was the nick of time, but the leap behind her padawan's strike pushed her own blade down, grazing her leg. Gritting her teeth, Edo stepped back. She again swung lightly at his knee, hoping his footwork to be muddled.

The impact from Blade's jump forced Master Vilsa's blade down as their sabers clashed against one another, grazing her leg. In turn, she took a step back and lightly swung at his knee again. This time, his reaction time was too slow and her blade hit its intended mark, searing his knee. He gasped in pain and wobbled slightly as the hot training blade made contact. He ignored the pain in his knee using all of his willpower and called upon the force to guide his movements and increase his speed. He somersaulted over his Master and swung his blade towards her back.

"Are you o-" Edo started to say, interrupted by Blade's jump. He flipped over her head quickly enough that she only had enough time to drop to her left. Though the saber still hit her leg, she missed the brunt of the damage. She turned around and held up a hand as she stood up. "Good spar, padawan," she said. She smiled, proud of Blade. He attacked well, and though he needed more practice, he reacted in the right way to her attacks.

Two chains dangled from both hands, with a strange device on the end of each chain, they made a gentle clinking sound as they swayed in the air. Keskor pressed down on the activator of the chains, in an instant two orbs, spiked and fearsome, burst to life on the end of the chains, he swung them rapidly in his hands, Ah, how he loved exotic weapons.
Keskor called out towards his opponent as the saberchains (OOC- Whatever you wanna call them) made a familiar gentle Vrooom, saying

Irishi centered the Force around her and let it flow freely throw her as the person came closer and closer, until he came to a stop a few meters from her. Are you ready to begin the duel, her opponent's voice ran clear through the sparring arena, casting a small echo as well. Slowly Irishi stood up, unclipping her lightsaber and activated it. Then she entered the familiar Soresu opening stance. As ready as I can ever be, my young friend.
