CT Rumor: Disney to Release Unaltered Old Trilogy on BR

I thought I was over it, but I'm having flashbacks, LUMPY!!!!!!!!!!

 

All the Disney jokes don't help seeing as the Holiday Special literally turned Leia into a singing princess....

 

That by itself isn't bad.

 

I never bothered to watch it and I never will. No matter how much a fan you are, you should never subject yourself to garbage. I quote comic book writer Mark Waid, who wrote the JLA comic for a few years, and his reaction to seeing the 1997 TV pilot...

"That was ninety minutes of my life that I'll never get back."

 

I watched it for the first time this past Spring. There was a lot of FF'ing, but I stopped to watch all of the commercials, which made it worthwhile. Sorta.

 

It's bizarre that watching the ads (including ones for SW toys!) on some of those old bootlegs is more entertaining than the show itself. It's really that bad.

Oh well, I'm as much to blame as anyone else, but should probably get this thread back on topic, much as I enjoy putting the boot into that crime against Star Wars, the medium of television, and good taste. It's one of the few topics where SW fans are united in their opinions. Pretty sure there's old threads here, in Saga and SWTV which could be bumped if anyone wants to carry on, or maybe start a new one.
(Technically, it belongs in SWTV, but there's a number of elements surrounding its creation which make it more relevant to Saga, while its historical/nostalgic context probably makes it more of a CT topic. Can go in any of them, I guess)

My copy has some of the original TV ads for A New Hope (back when it was simply called Star Wars), and The Empire Strikes Back. Those alone were worth the price of admission

Yeah, Celebration was roughly when I was thinking as well, but can't blame a guy for hoping for news sooner Oh well, that's not that far away...

 

The day we have the truly original version of the Star Wars trilogy will be a day long remembered.

 

I love the SE but I would love to see unaltered but every frame of film cleaned up version of the OT BLU-RAY I would definitely buy that, what is the latest rumor on this? I don't have a BLU-RAY player yet but plan to get one soon, so hopefully when it comes out it will be a BLU-RAY DVD combo pack?

I feel like more than likely Disney will air the 3 original films on ABC leading up to the release of TFA.

 

If Disney were to release the OOT on BR, I won't be buying them. Why would I want to downgrade?

Well, as I've said before, Cushy not see any cause to fight over differing tastes. If he likes SEs or Blu Ray or '04s good for him.

 

Because the SEs were a downgrade with the horrible restoration?

 

I already have it. The one that i bought four years ago. One with the classic with no changes and the other disc with the horrible changes (like hayden at the end of ROTJ)

 

Because the SEs are a upgrade and closer to George's artistic vision over those moldly old outdated OOT versions that are full of flaws the SE corrected. So the SEs are more pure Star Wars than the OOTs since they better match what Lucas wanted to bring to the screen, if you want to go down that route lovelikewinter.
