RUMOUR: Tim Zahn Writing A New Star Wars Book?

I'm not sure if you guys have this info yet, but I ran into Timothy Zahn a little ways back at the San Diego Comicon. I met up with him at Richard LeParmentier's (Admiral Motti) table. After a general Star Wars discussion with the men, I walked off with Zahn and discussed his 5 Star Wars novels. He revealed to me that he is in talks right now to do a prequel era novel for the Del Rey line. Possibly to take place BEFORE Phantom Menace.

Very good news if indeed true. We would love to see Tim Zahn return to the GFFA, and a prequel book would be a great concept for him, perhaps exploring the Katana fleet and Jorus C'baoth?

 

Well... maybe this way he'll at least stay away from the NJO.

No, the article mentions that the book could take place BEFORE TPM, which is -32 BSW4. Thrawn won't be in the picture.

I hope that the novel, if the rumour is true, and that he IS writing it, takes places HUNDREDS of years before TPM.

Sorry Gatherer, but I?m going to have to go with RF and Valiento on this one. I thought that the SW books Zahn actually wrote were good. However, I would prefer it if he didn?t write any more. Zahn has left his, rather prominent, mark on the EU. I would like it if he would simply leave it alone now.

 

I think Timothy Zahn and Kevin J. Anderson have written the best books for the EU. I tell you who I don't like is Michael Stackpole. His books were my least favorite of the NJO. I very much would like to see Zahn and Anderson contribute to the NJO.

Seriously, despite all of Genghis' valid arguments, I really enjoyed TTT, and still think those books kick @$$.

But SotP was the average SW book, and VotF was quite slow and... not boring, but not exciting either. Was just quite cool to learn abou Thrawn's people, although Zahn made them all powerful, and yadi yadi yada...

So, a prequel book by Zahn ? Hum... If it is centered around some of his characters (Jorus C'baoth, Jorj Car'das, etc.) then : NO. Otherwise, why not ? Maybe he can redo a very good trilogy like TTT...

I marked out like a little girl at a 'Nsync concert when Jorus C'baoth appeared in CoD, so I think it would be awesome if Zahn's book was about him. It's mentioned in DFR (I believe) that C'baoth was Palpatine's "Jedi Advisor". Be cool to examine that relationship.

But the Outbound Flight Project took place around AotC, not TPM

No, it will be Mara's grandad that taught Palpy everything he knows............Mara is a gift.

 

The most horifying of all would be Anderson writing for the NJO. We'd get an organic Vong Death Star. Or maybe something that eats planets and spits out finished ships!!!! Or maybe we'd get.... wait, I'm starting to scare myself.

Now that would make me cringe.

 

HmmM, Zahn writing a pre TPM novel? It couldn't be about the Outbound Project...that's set after TPM...maybe the writer of this email is mistaken?
