RvB2 Volunteer VFX Project - official thread

Like, poke my picture on your screen? Wacom pens aren't voodoo, Caauwe. If you stab my picture on your Wacom, I'm not going to feel it in real life.

Its been a month and a bit so I thought, as a complete stranger, i'd ask you for an update on what's happening, if anything with this project. Has volcanic ash crippled you, oil spills drowned you, battle stations blasted you, or more likely simple life got in the way of this side project.

 

I delivered the last of the team's saber shots a few weeks back, but it's mostly been life getting in the way for everyone. Brandon and I have been working together on some stuff lately but have hardly even mentioned RvB2 to each other. I talked to Ryan briefly last night and he figured we're probably not too far out; things should be slowing down soon so there will be more time to get everything finished.

 

In the LCC entry, were the sword sounds live or added in post production?

I wasn't there, but most likely post. Don't think carbon fiber hitting carbon fiber sounds like that.

 

They don't. I'm almost positive those were added in post.
It kind of opens a new door in terms of making your LCC exciting if you don't have time to do 'saber effects. Just making the sticks themselves feel dangerous works in it's own way. I remember even in RvB1, they animated the sticks extending where the 'saber ignitions would end up being.

 

From what I recall, Ryan had said they put in sword sounds and clangs and whatnot for the entry version. Pretty creative, huh?

 

I really like the ringing sound when both Ryan & Brandon were fighting over the double-blade saber. Does any know where I can get or make those sounds?

They were animated in RvB2 as well. That's actually what we got as plates, so all the tracking work was done for when they shot without blades.

 

Sooo, what's the latest on this?

 

If I've learned one thing from listening to old Geekza episodes on my iPod, it's that the sound your looking for is called a "glissade".

I'm sorry, the sound that Cloe does, right after saying the name, glissade, is fantastic, you could lift it and use it as sound fx, I seriously thought about doing it

(A friend of Brandon's did the sound mix, by the way)

 

So how do I go about making that sound effect? I don't know anything about sound stuff.
