    Hey everyone.

It took me roughly a night and a few extra hours to finish this small clip. Myself, like many others wanted to see this fight rotoscoped.

I would have liked to see this clip as the raw footage for the Rotoscoping Contest rather than the manipulated video we had to work with.

As for the color, I am trying out some new blue shades, so there is room to improve. Other than that, I hope you guys/girls enjoy this piece I put together!

    http://s91057290.onlinehome.us/movies/brandonryan.mov

If you would like to rotoscope this piece as well, I will be hosting the raw hi-res footage soon.

Should have left the aspect ratio alone, it's too "flat" (or "fat" depending on your point of view).

The sabers look good... I just get tired of seeing sabers in the woods.

    Very cool.
    Did you use After Effects?
What were your color settings for that shade of blue?

Finally a finished clip of that entry. I would also love to know your settings for that blue. Are you going to do the whole clip for us to enjoy?

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.

This was done in After Effects. The blue shade has a combination of shadows highlights and midtones. I mainly worked with blue and green, and some cyan.

The color did take some major experimenting. I worked with two layers of the same glow, then flattened them together, and worked on the color again. Going piece by piece, it would take awhile to rotoscope it all, but hopefully I can someday continue.

Looks pretty good. The sound work is excellent as are the sabers. Only thing i didn't like was that the mvmnt seemed unreal. Did you speed it up in post?

    Heh.

I think that falls into the "No duh" category.
Numbers man! What were your precise settings?

Yeah, I was pretty vague on that. But most people don't use many other color combinations. Some just think blue saber, and slap 100 on midtones and 100 on highlights and done.

For the numbers, I didn't write them down, so I'll run into the AE Project and get them soon.

Alright, here are my numbers. I haven't tested these settings with other shots/backgrounds, so use this as a reference.

    Screen:
    Shadow Red -15
    Mid Green 22
    Mid Blue 100
    High Blue 99

    Add:
    Shadow Blue 51
    Mid Green 11
    Mid Blue 98
    High Red -13
    High Blue 58

    Screen/Add Flattened Layer:
    Shadow Red -15
    Shadow Blue 5
    Mid Blue 100
    High Blue 53

I'm not completely set on this glow, so I will be working more with these numbers.
Darth_Deception, the video has no speed changes.

    Holy digits, Batman!

Wow. That is one complex color combination.
100mid 100hil by itself won't ever be good enough.. but MAN!

I'm gonna go try that out now, lol.
    EDIT: Oh. That's three layers.
    How're you using those, exactly?

Crap, I didn't manage to download this entry when the competition came out. Is there a place that I can still download the entire entry?

Whoa sweet pics! Is anybody actually working on the entire clip? What should the official colors of the sabers be?

Blue and green works for me.

I'm so used to both of them having blue sabers.. I just can't picture either of them wielding a red one.

Then again, I would think it's the rotoscoper's choice in this case.

Mae, that clip is sweet, but what Jedi said, you should of left the aspect ratio alone. Have considered rotoing the whole thing??
