Well, I think the time has finally come for an official thread. Here we can post updates on the project and folks can discuss/disparage it.

As many are probably aware, Ryan vs Dorkman (released here at TFN on March 1 of 2002) has had an incredible surge in popularity in just the last few months, thanks largely to sites like YouTube, Google Video, and eBaum's World. With a sudden fan base much larger and broader than just the folks here at TFN, we decided to seize the opportunity and start trying to put together plans to make another fight in the same spirit as the first, and hopefully better in all respects.

Well, we just recently secured our location and dates for the shoot. So RvD2 is now officially a go.

After many weeks of searching for an adequate location at a surviveable price, an enthusiastic fan of RvD in Atlanta, Georgia contacted us with the offer to use his location free of charge. Unfortunately though, with us in California, the airfare will be considerably expensive. Never the less, that possibility has become a plan, and we have finally secured the location and dates for RvD2. It is an interior industrial setting not unlike the one seen in RvD (but with less big strange machines). We will be shooting for about 9 days in mid-august, giving us lots of time to work out any prep issues with the location, finalize our choreography to work with the location, and shoot the sequence at a hopefully less-than-rushed pace. We plan to work on nightly edits to see where we will need to do reshoots and get them filmed in the following days, as we will not be able to go back for reshoots separately.

This also means that we hope to be able to wrap up the editing fairly quickly after returning, and be able to swing into post-production in early September. There will be lots of rotoscoping, but also a small handful of other miscellaneous effects shots, and probably a number of "invisible" effects that aren't meant to be noticed, like in the first one. We'll also be working on the sound mix and finding/cutting suitable music during this time. Several people have expressed interest in creating an original score for the fight, which is a possibility we will be happy to entertain as well.

So here is an idea of what our timeline is like on the project:

    NOW - AUGUST 16
    (Pre-production)
    Conceptualization of sequence beats
    Choreography and practice of fight
    Video tests
Acquisition of new camera and production gear

    AUGUST 16 - 26
    (Production)
    Filming of the sequence on-location
    Nightly edits for next-day reshoots

    AUGUST 27 - ONWARD
    (Post-Production)
    Finalize edit and lock timing
Visual effects work and lightsaber rotoscoping
    Sound and music mix
Final edit with all visual effects and sound work
Internet world premiere release of RvD2

Personally, (and this is not a commitment in any way) I suspect that if all the post-production work goes extremely smoothly and extremely quickly, we may be looking at a New Year release, or soon after.

So that's the plan. Right now we're mostly trying desperately to find any free time to get out and work on the choreography. But we have the better part of two months to get it all worked out and rehearsed, so we're hopeful that by the time we get out to film, we won't need to worry so much about working on the fight and have time to just film the fight, and get all the shots and takes we want. If all goes well, this should be a very good production, and hopefully a good product.

And now I will stop rambling.

Yes. I cant wait. 1 question. Since you, Ryan, And dorkman both die in RVD, how could you make RVD 2? Still, as wierd as that sounds, I still cant wait untill it is finished. IS it going to be about the same length? Also, I think there should be some sort of dialouge in it. Finnally, the lightsabers fx's were way to loud in the first one. PLease lower the saber fx. Still, I am very excited about RVD 2.

Good question. Wish I could be there. With a bag of marbles, empty the bag on the floor over towards Ryan and Michael, give Cramer a nudge and say "Watch what happens."

Ryan, what camera are you guys looking to get? Are you guys going to be shooting this one on HD, or just stick to good old miniDV?

I thought that was a clone. Yeah, good point. But Jango Fetts clones wernt called Jango. One was called Cody, one was Boba. Still, I dont think that matters, just that a Ryan is coming out with somethin new.

That was an early incarnation of Dorkman. It was titled as DorkMan...but it was really DorkBoy.

Now we get to see the real DorkMan.

    (You better grow some sideburns).

As for traveling to the set, I'd go if for only the chance to make a BTS for it.

I foresee them aiming for an HD/HDV camera.

In case you don't though, I could bring an XL1s or two with me should I travel there.
