I remember they used to show the obscure fantasy film “Mio in the Land of Far Away” a lot and they had music videos like the one about the dinosaur and the farmer. Anyone remember these?

Ugh. Siblings can be so annoying sometimes. But at the same time you still gotta love them.

No one hates SW more than SW fans

 

Not to mention that RT does not factor 1/2 star ratings into their algorithms. Nothing less than a 1 star rating gets counted. Some films have hundreds of 1/2 star ratings on RT which would obviously lower the score tremendously.

Also, as far as RT...

I honestly think it's way past time people stopped caring about what these film snobs think. That website is practically just a marketing ploy for Studios nowadays, which pretty much can be seen by the fact that they will tend to kiss and bless anything made by Disney while snide at anything GL was involved in or what Warner has done with DC. There is little or no partiality with critics these days, and those who still defend the corrupt system clearly haven't woken up.

Another thing- I can't help but think that Solo's slightly lower score is due in large part because Alden is not Harrison- which in my opinion, is an unfair burden to place on an actor (Harrison Ford has been so aggrandized as an actor it would never satisfy expectations regardless of who was cast) and telling of everything wrong with film criticism these days and SW fans.

It's rather obvious to me that film critics tend to like the "bland vanilla" approach to filmmaking these days, seeing as how the more ambitious films usually get lambasted for things that the vanilla movies tend to get away with (Critics where saying Justice League sucked because Steppenwolf was a forgettable villain... have they seen the majority of the Marvel films?)

as for Solo and reviews. I try to see the movie first before reading/watching peoples opinions. And even then I'm very selective what I do view. My opinions don't usually "gel" well with the mainstream anyway. I like Ghostbusters II and Batman & Robin for crying out loud

Yea I'm kinda worried and thinking that people will just write it off because of this. I mean even I was thinking like this wayyy back when it was first announced, but now after seeing trailers and clips I can look past it as long as he can give a good performance. (and imo from what I've seen I think he has, though I'll fully judge once I've seen the whole thing)
