Neat. Yeah, those are definitely US police pursuit vehicles, though the car is a little ridiculous with all the logos. They never actually look like that.

 

I just heard about Indiana Jones 5 getting pushed back a year once again. Frustrating.

I don't know how many delays they can afford. I already thought the original 2019 release date might be pushing it a bit. Now it's 2021? Harrison Ford will almost be 80. I hope John Williams will still be able to compose for the movie by then.

At least Billy Dee Williams was announced for Episode IX, finally.

At this point they may have to recast ford.

 

Yeah. It's kind of a bummer but also kinda interesting as to what Spielberg has in mind for what will plainly be twilight-aged character. They we're still able to get away with the physical dare-dos of a mid-60s Indy back in 2008, thanks in no small part to Ford's exceptional fitness. But I think it reasonable to assume that this next (and final) installment will see Indy shadowing a younger hero co-lead. And since Shia LaBeouf is clearly out of the picture, I'm curious as to what form said character will take. I personally think it'd be neat if Indy was mentoring a whole team or motley crew of young treasure hunters. Also, the setting will be early 1970s. Where Indy was already anachronistic in 1957, here he'll be an outright dinosaur.

As for Billy Dee in Episode IX, I'm indifferent. It all just feels like ceremonial stunt casting at this point.

 

Never happen under Spielberg. And if Lucasfilm is smart, it'll never happen after as well.

 

It's seeming more and more that the Dragon Ball fandom is becoming more and more like how much of the Star Wars fandom is post-TLJ because of Broly. All I can say is, I hope Broly is actually good this time.

Anyways, though, I think there is money to be made with the Indy franchise after Ford. It just means repurposing as much back to how it originally began, as a "Raiders" franchise by simply writing new characters.

 

I could see them casting a new actor as a young Indiana Jones, but I don't think they will ever recast the "present" Indiana Jones.

 

If they really wanted to subvert expectations they could actually have Ford play Jones as old and decrepit. Fully retired, emeritus faculty, with just one loose end to tie up, thus the plot to Indy 5. They could have it take place in the '80s. There's something mythically-cyclical about having the final installment take place when the first installment debuted IRL. Plus, that sweet '80s nostalgia.

Oh, no doubt. I could definitely see them recasting a younger Indy, generically, reflexively, devoid of inspiration. I'm just hopping they'll come to better senses by then, if they haven't already. Indiana Jones is not analogous to, say, James Bond or Batman, where recasting is not only a big deal but moreover essential for ongoing reinterpretations. Indy is a lived-in character for whom Ford has been the central embodiment over the last near-40 years. I've said it before: recasting someone to play Indiana Jones would not be like recasting someone to play James Bond, but rather recasting someone to play Sean Connery as James Bond.

Good call. I've entertained such ideas myself. It could be pretty cool.

 

After the pool party, I hung out at Barnes and Nobel and I got 2 new Star Wars books.
