I had to cancel my second Solo showing today. Not sure when I will see it again, but I will.

On the plus side I get to watch “Die Hard” in UHD.

 

Die Hard is strictly a Christmas venue for me. But I am about to engage the JP 4K boxset.

 

I think SW is at its best when it's not afraid to emrbace the corn, so I love the **** out of that part

Well I'm excited about the Boba Fett film but I'm still waiting for a sequel to Rogue One. This is what I think the order of upcoming films is going to be:

Episode IX: 2019
Boba Fett film: 2020
Solo Sequel: 2021
Rogue One Sequel: 1977

 

I heard George Lucas is directing the sequel.

 

Don't get our hopes up only to dash them like that.

The Good:

Alden- I really have to give it to him; I was one of the skeptics who used to think that he wasn't a great choice but he nailed the portrayal of the character. I especially like how in the excessive age of anti-heroes, who have for the most part become lame adolescent fantasies (looking at you Marvel) Han is portrayed more in line with being a good guy at heart who is turned hard-boiled cynic similar to Rick Blaine's character in Casablanca.
Also props to Glover on his Lando portrayal.
The Kessel Run- Really have to give it to Ron on going full on with the chase unlike anything we had seen before. It has to be one of the most visual dazzling scenes we have seen in a Star Wars movie to date, particularly with the giant Space Kraken and the red hole.
The little details- I really liked how they set up Han and Chewie's relation in particular with having them meet in what essentially entails to Chewie eating Prisoners of War . Everything about how they set the two of them up into the characters we know in A New Hope was perfect.

The Bad:
Maul; Nothing against his portrayal (glad they brought Sam back) but it's something that makes no sense to the average viewer once they see it. It only further cements that the way Star Wars is made nowadays entails to "if you didn't understand something, here is a book/comic/ tv show for you to get the movie!" which is about as lame and dare I say, cynical cash grab, as it gets. It makes sense for him to be the head of Crimson Dawn but it's something no one beyond a hardcore fan is going to enjoy.

L3- seriously I have to agree with @B99 on this; by far BY FAR the worst character ever to grace the universe. I mean seriously, their is simply nothing to this character beyond being some kind of stupid meta-commentary on the politics of fandom- I seriously don't want to hear anyone complain about Jar Jar ever again after seeing this droid. The entire idea of "droid rights" is heresy to be introduced to begin with; droids don't have the Force; therefore they cannot "think" as Obi-Wan said; therefore they are not alive! Also to comment on the Lando/L3 relationship. I take Lando's mourning the same way I take Obi-Wan mourning Qui-Gon's death (they are friends).

Other than that, a solid film 8.5-9 out of 10

 

And I read a rumor saying that Alec Guinness will be in the film.

 

Wow that’s impressive since he has been dead for more then a decade.
