Using Ryan W's tutorials, his contact flash, and some footage from EP 1, I've created an 8 second FX test for some practice. Part way into this, I realized the footage probably wasn't the best material for a rookie, due to obscurities and all, but I think it turned out ok. Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice about rotoscoping sabers in the future.

    Project.mov 3.? MB

    Thanks,

Looks pretty good. If I had to say anything, it would be that the blades are a bit too thick and maybe the color is bumped up a little too much. Otherwise, a pretty nice roto job.

Color bumped up? Could you explain that in more detail please?

    Thanks

Er, the colors are a little too bright, too saturated. In Ryan's tut, he set his Midtones at 100, and Highlights at 50. If you did the same thing, I would lower the numbers a bit. You don't have to do it for every shot but use your instincts.

But someone could disagree with me about the colors.

Ok, I'll expiriment with that. Thanks. And do you mean that the saber cores are too thick or that the glow extends out too far? With the cores, I try to cover where I see the stick ;)

Are you implying something by giving Obi-Wan a purple saber?

Thanks for the comments. Again, tho, do you mean that the cores are fat, or that there is just too much glow?

Are you implying something by giving Obi-Wan a purple saber?

Not at all, just switching colors around. ;) Windu uses a purple saber. . .

Yes, I believe the cores are a bit too "fat"

The color is kinda fat aswell, but not too bad.

Personally, I don't think it's as thick as people are making it out to be.

Pretty good Job. The sabers seem a little too big, and I personally would add a little more glow to the sabers. Why did you give Obi-wan a purple, and Maul yellows?

To do things a little bit different. Why must the sith always have red?!? Yellow is pretty menacing ;) I actually considered, at first, giving Maul the purple saber, just for humor. . . :D
