I tried to introduce positions this year & I believe it was met with a "DO NOT WANT" picture ;)

so, I think that a lesson was learned there that that isn't what SAFF wnats ;)

I'm against formalising positions within SAFF. It was put up for consideration and after much debate, the idea was finally (though perhaps begrudgingly?) withdrawn.

I won't entertain such an idea unless SAFF as a majority felt it was of benefit.

    A question for both candidates.

Would either of you consider two internal branches of the SAFF?
    1 - Fundraising/Charity
    2 - Social.

    It's needed.

I personally have gotten to the stage where I am only interested in doing charity work for SAFF. Social events hold little to no interest for me with the current state of things & no signs of any chance of improvement. I would like to think that the charity work we do is a BIG part of who we are.

BTW Cho, - Parsec folded not due to internal bickering.Monthly meetings like the SAFF open day took its toll after a couple of years. We were basically being used as a babysitting service for people on Sundays. Drop your kids off & pick em up whenever.

Wasnt that to do with the whole "New Jedi Alliance" thing? The whole, SAFF council thing?

But the number is still out weighed. Its like 2 events for north's and 6 events for south's

I'd put the idea to SAFF and see what the reaction is. If the majority found it to be beneficial, then so be it.

Having said that, if people wanted to join in just the fundraising/charity events as they appear or just the social events as they appear also, then it would be business as it has always been. If you want to attend an event, you put your name on the list.

There would be plenty of Charity work & plenty of social events, people will be free to chose whatever feel interests them to participate in, if you only wnat to do charity work that's fine, if you only want to do social events that's fine too.

Remember, Charity work isn't in SAFF's charter & neither is a costume, we don't have to do anything we don't want to, but there will be plenty on offer for those who want to get involved.

I'd like to know why the candidates have put their hands up. What made you decide that you wanted to do more for SAFF? Why make the leap from member to CR? Why is it important to you?

It's what I do & what I have done. I love this group with every fiber of my being & I hope that anyone can see the passion & desire I have to see this group flourish, thrive, succeed & grow into the future.

Whilst other FF's are withering and dying, SAFF grows, why is that ?? a lot of hard work & and determination to see SAFF successful.

Nothing worthwhile comes easy, to borrow a line from clone wars" the best confidence builder is experience" I think that I have shown this year that I have experience & passion to do the job & do it well.

What would the next CR do to fix stuff like this? Is it a priority? Sure, we don't all need to be best buddies, but this whole pseudo-factional crap is (a) childish, (b) tiresome, (c) unproductive and (d) so completely tiny and useless in the whole big scheme of things. TBH, my social/fun time is limited, so I'd rather make the most of it in RL or on the boards rather than spend time picking sides or getting annoyed/amused (often in equal parts at flawed arguments. ;) I don't mind a good debate/argument/disagreement...but I spend more time reading than posting these days because I can't be bothered with some of the thinly veiled stuff that goes on.

Whilst the social and charity sub-groups aren't a bad idea per-se, and I do think that there's a good deal of merit for people who have interest in either areas to have leading roles in getting stuff done, there was a time when both aspects of SAFF worked well together. Are things too far gone for that to be possible anymore? Do people only want to do one or the other?

Absolutely, it's great fun...even gets me involved on occasion. But I'd still like it *balanced* with hitting some pins, shooting some lasers or having a bbq and brews.

I think there's room for some more honesty that accurately portrays the views that people have here that don't violate the TOS. Perhaps a SAFF message board for honest discussion could be set up far from their constraints....?

At that, I'll get back in my hole ;)

Those who were active members when I found SAFF know that I was living comfortably in the Far North of the state. After coming down for a number of social and costume events over a 6 month period, I realised how much I liked being part of it. So I made the decision to pack up everything and move to Adelaide so I could get more involved in SAFF, as I realised I was spending more time here than with friends up there. That showed me how important it was to me. I <3 SAFF :p

I like SAFF as a warm, social place where people can chat about Star Wars (and off-topic stuff :p) and I'd like to get SAFF as a gathering of SW fans out into public's thinking. We're not employees of a petrol station!

I think each person brings a different element to SAFF and a fresh approach can be a positive thing.

Skipp, I'd love nothing more than a huge social outing at say a Primo's (or the Hwy Inn *lol*) where we can all get together & socilaise, but you can't make people want to do something, nor should anyone try to.(not suggesting you were;) )

I've mentioned previously that there will be plenty of social events for people to attend & people will be free to chose what they want to attend, what appeals to them. There is not one member of this forum that I could not sit down & have an enjoyable meal with despite the apparent tension in this thread.

There is no reason a get together cannot be organised & should be encouraged.

    A lighter question:

What do the candidates think about the direction Star Wars is currently headed? Clone Wars series, Live-Action in the works, The Force Unleashed, Legacy of the Force, the next 9 part series being planned by Del-Ray, Legacy comics, the recently announced Star Wars MMO?

If you had a choice which of these ideas would been scrapped/altered, or which would have more time and money invested into it?

Also, do you think these ventures will bring more fans and respect for Star Wars, or more negativity from critics and people who think GL is using the beloved franchise as his personal cash cow?

I like the venture in TV. I think it's a smart move, especially if there aren't going to be any further films. It allows a new generation to get into SW, which seems to be where the Clone Wars series is pitched at, IMO.

I think GL has the right amount of SW stuff going on without saturating the market to the point of being annoying.

All in all I think it will bring the next generation of SW fans, while keeping the die-hards honest!

I think all of the plans are fantastic. The clone wars tv series is great.

I can't get enough of the EU, the only beef I have with it is that the upcoming 9 novel series is all hard covers which will be expensive, but it's great there will be more EU, give me a chance to get to 100 SW novels read :p

George will always cop criticism from some people, but not from me. ALL SW is good SW, true that some is better than others but I love every aspect of SW, every aspect.

In fact if it were not for SW I likely wouldn't have met my fiance Starfire Phoenix, so I'm forever in George's debt there.

You can't have too much SW, it's the most influential movie ever !

Funny thing this...I have never had a permanent address in South Australia yet...

I was given the option to vote in the 2005 election as an active member on the boards, but declined. I was again given the option to vote in the 2006 election but declined. I was again offered the option to vote last year (and for the record had a temporary address in SA as I was visiting during the election) but again declined.

I have not been approached this year by the current CR with the same option to vote. Perhaps it is the CR and not SAFF who makes the voting rules each year? I honestly don't know. Being CR of the Underground Knights, I know Montreal is a special case due to the majority of the community not being able to speak English so not being active on the FF boards, but being very active on the French brother boards we refer to on an ongoing basis as an extension of FF locally in a fashion.

I however, whether given the option or not, was not intending to vote yet again this year, but I fully intend to excersize my right next year as a permanent resident and full member of SAFF if I still feel the desire to belong within the SAFF family next year. In the last 12 months there has been so much infighting that I have to admit my interest in SAFF has dwindled some and as such my presence on the boards, though my love for my friends within SAFF has not changed. Recently, I have felt less welcome as an "outsider" and as an "honorary member".

It is a real shame because it is SAFF which initially gave me a real interest in relocating to Australia. SAFF was a group of warm, welcoming and friendly people. In fact, they were the most friendly community I had ever come across online or in person. I no longer see that. I see a great devision and have witnessed a lot of hostility between members. I honestly wonder sometimes if the SAFF of old still exists?

On that note, I wish both candidates the best of luck. Both I consider good friends and I'm sure both will do the job to the best of their ability and will lead SAFF in the direction they think is in the best interests of all members. My only advice to both of you, having said that, is to listen to the members as you act on behalf of the community. I know as a CR that sometimes it is easy to lose sight of what the people want and not hear the individual voices. That is the hardest part of the job.

Just my two cents worth as an outsider and an honorary member.

that is an extremely interesting post [face_thinking]

First of all, let me say that it is a tragedy if you don't feel welcome anymore, because you definitely are [:D] You and I have been friends for years, there's the whole oreo thing and the like...but you are definitely welcome here.

It's funny what has come to light in the last few days, I guess ignorance truly is bliss. My understanding was that you had to be residing in SA to have a vote, why did I think this, because that's the way it has always been posted publicly but it seems that there were goings on behind the scenes that contradicted these.

    example: on the 26/10/05

followed 10 mins later by our now RSA Adalia:

    then 5 mins later:

then as recent as last years election

so please excuse me for thinking that the precedence had been set that voting was only open to residence of SA.

I would like to know why one thing was publicly posted on the boards though then behind the scenes the sitting CR's did something different to contradict what the public saw. Having spoken with evil incarnate, I know no such offer occured in his term in office as he was under the impression I was.

I congratulate Goddess on her honesty & integrity & doing what she thought was the right thing to do. That was the reason I didn't ask you to vote. This was never anything personal... I have NEVER had a bad word to say about Dashy, either on the forums or in person, have I Dashy ? I have/had a GREAT friendship with Goddess & I certainly have never said anything bad about her. It was clear to me the direction SAFF had taken for their voting lines, yet behind the scenes it seems that the elections were comprised

Yes Skipp, for me its past the point of no return. I'm at the same stage that Fox & Winter were at.. total frustration. I have no interest in socialising with a percentage of the SAFF & those that I do wish to remain in contact with, I have their details.

I've only been with SAFF a short time so everyone will have to excuse me if some of these Q are off or upset people as i'm only going by what i've been in contact with the last few mounths. First I love SAFF it's been the best few months every to get to know everyone here, but the last couple of days on this thread have been really upsetting cause there are people that i consider friends arguing about stuff thats not even relevent to this thread. Like Darth_Rhadei said this is supposed to be aobut the future of SAFF not the past. I would personally like to here more from the Candidates then from other members who are just arguing with each other because they don't like some ones point of veiw. Of course everyone is intitled to there opinion and i have no problem with that but that is not what htis thred is for.

    Anyway back to my questions

    1) I have given out the SAFF web address to alot of people (freinds and just people who have asked) and the response i've recieved hasn't been great. The website needs updating in a serious way. What would you do to ensure that this happens as soon as possible?

    2) I guess if we are to vote for you then maybe some info about each of you is need esspecially for those of us that are new to SAFF and may not know you that well. Maybe start by telling as why you love Starwars, why you love SAFF, why you joined SAFF? How much time you have to give to SAFF (mainly because we need someone who is avalible to be on the bourds and at most events)? And i guess some general info about who you are so that we now what and who we are voting for.

There we go i'm done rambling.

If I may point out, I was not an RSA back then, I wasn't even close, so please don't take something I said about rules over a year ago as gospel as I had not read all the rules back then. Heck, I'm still getting through them all now. Its like taking something you may have said before you were CR and using it when you may not have been aware of the situation back then. It would have been fine to say "Followed 10 mins later by Adalia" no need to add the other bit, I wasn't RSA then. ;)

    1) I would put out the tender for someone to do the updates, while maintaining the integrity of the site as it is now. I would have someone working on updating info on the site within a week of the election. I agree that many events/photos/details need to be updated. Whoever updated the site info would need to be prepared to simply do that, not change the stylesheet of the site!

    2) By the time ROTJ came out I was totally engrossed by SW. I had lots of the figures from back in the 80s (all gone now) but I never stopped loving the show. There was nothing better for a young boy than to be able to play in the SW universe. I joined SAFF because they were a group of people in SA who liked SW as much as I did (see page 7 for more info on this). I am constantly checking SAFF to see what's happening. I don't always post, but I'm always checking. I get to every event that I possibly can, both costumed and social. There are times when Darth Real Life intervenes, so you do as much as you can.

    1) already being worked on, I asked Darth Radei & Darth Revan to work on the site weeks ago & have even sent a follow up PM to DR enquiring how it's going. Still need some codes or access or something from Skipp ;)

    2) Star Wars means the world to me as does SAFF. I have demonstrated this year how much passion & enthusiasm I have for the group. As for time on the boards I have three and a half thousand posts this year, and almost all of them not in the spam thread ;) How much time can I give to SAFF ? Lets have a look at this year's list, it will serve 2 purposes- show how involved I got with either running events or being the onsite co-ordinator for the day & 2 show how many things we actually did this year & there plenty of social events too if people wanted to go to them.

    1.SC1's Poker night
    2.TTG library appearance
    3.Slowdown
    4.City to Bay
    5.Colonnades s/c appearance/ raffle
    5.SAFF bowling Woodville
    6.Clone Wars premiere
    7.Xmas in July
    8.Reynella Kiwanis
    9.Hollywood Plaza s/c appearance/ raffle
    10.Quin's Birthday party
    11.Kidsflix Norwood
    12.Quin's poker night
    13.Free comic book day
    14.Kidsflix Noarlunga
    15.SAFF open Day
    16.Relay for Life
    17.One Man SW show
    18.FanZone
    19.Quiz night
    20.SAFF beach day

for the record I missed 3 of these Jabba ;):D

and for the record 7 of these were social events, which is one every month and a half or so ;)

That looks like a pretty busy 12 month calander to me, of course, like I've said, if people want to organise more social events that's great, better than great because not all people will be able to go to all events & it's great to have choice. I still stand by my earlier comments that SAFF's social calendar was not "greatly lacking" & that Alf did a wonderful time as social co-ordinator. I'd have him back in the role in a heartbeat if he would accept it, but I doubt he will :(

*note* a poker night & a go cart night were canceled, 2 more scheduled social events ;)

You missed out the Belair picnic at the start of October;)

I've been doing this as well, with almost the same responce. When a potential SAFF'er comes to me & says that they won't join, as they're not keen on being caught between two warring factions, It's an eye-opener! Especially when they can name members from both "sides".

    My question is..
How, as CR, do you intend to mend fences/extend the olive branch to bring people back to the fold? How will you turn the boards into "one happy place to be"?

you can't make people like one another, but what you can do is bring all parties to the table. Literally a table, preferably at a Cafe Primo or similar . I doubt that people if put together would behave in the manner that some display here. Of course all parties have to want to resolve any issues they have also ;)

Funny thing is, when people all get together, I've never seen any conflict what so ever in person, it's when people hide behind the anonymity of the internet the problems arise.

So in short, a get together would be great & if people wanted to air their grievances that would be the best place to do it.

You can only lead the horses to the water my friend....:p
