I have to say if someone were interested in running a near-Legacy era Imperials game that would be awesome. I'd love to try and flesh out the house rules for the Imperial Knights.

Wow, Star Wars Saga Edition. <3 You guys. I'm not sure if I have time to play since I'm gearing up for a game of my own dealing with a team of Republic Intelligence agents aboard a "Star of Empire"-esque starliner as it travels from planet to planet, trying to figure out why the criminal underworld has taken an interest in the vessel's voyage. (The answer is that someone got his hands on a Hapan Gun of Command and is auctioning off the schematics, which turns this into a multi-way struggle between Hapes, the Republic and various Underworld Organizations). It also involves Casino Royale.

Anyways, from my experiences, I've just about always played d20 online, it's pretty good. The only problem is that the speed can be agonizingly slow, especially during combat. But if you don't mind just cruising along, it's good fun.

I know that what I just said means I'm probably not highest on your priority list, but I still have a strange request. Please hear me out.

If at all possible, could you guys run your game on the Roleplaying Forum? I've been trying to boost the d20 presence there for a while, even had a game going a long time ago, but it fell apart when Real Life took away my players. Anyways, I was hoping that if it's not too much trouble, you guys could show them how it's done. Otherwise I shall have to continue running a stealth game by statting people out and using dice to resolve their actions, but not telling them about it.

No, it's a Games: RPG project. Entirely different crowd, different style, etc.

RPG is far more casual, can promote a diluted group dynamic and we're all tabletop RPG'ers. They don't foray into our world, we don't foray into theirs. :D

Also, Merk and Kudos, can we get you to follow Koohii's lead and start your threads please?

I'm curious - are the games (particularly the Saga games) going to specialize further besides era? Like, one being high Jedi, one being low Jedi, frequent posting/less frequent?

I'm also wondering how dice rolling is supposed to work.

The usual method for play-by-email/play-by-post (PBEM/PBP) is an honesty system, mitigated by 2 things; 1) the veracity of player rolls (zomg, I've rolled my 8th 20 in a roll! lololo! = false, clearly), and 2) the GM's decision to let the players roll themselves or he'll roll for them.

So you trust the GM that you missed an easy shot, or he trusts you not to cheat and actually make that tricky shot.

If you don't have a metric tonne of dice on hand, then go here. On the left hand side of the screen, in the bookmark links, is this picture:

    <img src="http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/new/nav_dnd_6a.jpg">

Click on it; it's a die roller.

As for Jedi etc - it's the GM's call. You're in his version of SW now, so if he's a minimalist, traditionalist who staffs a base with 20 Stormtroopers because that's viable for the game, you don't argue that the 3-quintillion-zillion-billion-trillion stormies that SD.net concluded must exist means that the Empire could afford to put more in. You accept it. He's the GM.

Sometimes it's frustrating, it depends on his style and yours. I run very high-end SW, but I ignore all canon and in some cases, the movies aren't referenced (like JEdi Knight before Able and his Shoehorn of Unrestrained Prospects (2d8+2) got to them) but are understood to have happened. This lets the players take centre stage and become their versions of the Big Three etc.

Some GMs are veyr harsh on players, and leave them really feeling like they're one of the trillions in the galaxy. It's all about yours and their style.

Isn't that why they need us? I can think of many different players who would possibly do well to learn some d20. Discipline, party dynamics, restraint, choosing a single specialty, not hogging the spotlight... In fact, I was discussing/teaching the game to another board member over IM just last night/this morning. Seems like it would be neat to do a demonstration game or something. But if still you don't want to, I'll accept that decision.

I look forward to seeing what you guys do.

Eh I'm less than impressed with RPF, given that the one time I browsed I encountered an LOTR-RP where the Aragorn player aged him at 40-ish. Lulz, nubs.

In any event, this is a game for RPG'ers first and foremost; not for RP'ers who need more structure. I've already had a talk with Jello about it over IM and how it differs from RPF style games.

If you want them to look at this an example, just link it.

I've played D&D online before, but we had a dice roller bot in the room. I also know there's some boards with dice rolling built in, but clearly that sort of thing's not possible on TFN...

So far only one person has applied via PM.
His character has been examined and been approved. And it isn't a Jedi, so if someone wants to play one, it isn't impossible...

    Any other takers?

Check it! Swanky online dice roller! This thing is really, really, cool. You can roll attacks, damage, saves, checks, anything and everything is stored in the database, including a history of rolls. So you can tell if your players are spamming the system in order to achieve the best results (and then ostracize them appropriately).

Alternatively, you can just put all of your trust in the GM's secret voodoo powers and let him roll for your. Or you can use the trust system as other people are doing. Anyways, just thought you'd want to know.

Tendrils of Chaos - SAGA d20 RPG is now recruiting. Please PM me your character concepts. The player cap for ToC is 6, first come, first serve. ;)

As for dice rolling, Irony Games provides a nice system that allows the results of rolls to be emailed to both the GM and the player. I've used it in other PBPs and haven't had a problem with it yet.

I have a Saga Edition Character sheet PDF that I allowed Type Writer functions on so people can keep track of their characters right on their computer.

    Currently...I'm a little confused.

Originally, I thought the Saga edition post-by-post was so that those without books could learn the system? I only have the old d20 books. I'm interested in d6 or Saga, but have no idea how to actually build a character/play. Is it possible for me to join on of those games?

There's still room in the D6 game.
Read the first couple posts that sloppily explain basic rules. Not sure if it will be of help or just confusing--there's a reason I don't work for WotC or WEG.

Anyway, after that, PM me and we can work of building a character for you.

No prob  I could send you a "rules primer" that I typed up, explaining how SECR differs from/resembles previous d20 products.
    EDIT:
I should have something up later this evening.

Well everyone is doing it so I'm going to do it too.

For those interested in D6 but have no idea where to start, try looking at these websites...

http://www.starwarsclub.org/swstats/ - there were some AWESOME pages up here taking you through every step of character creation, unfortunately they've disappeared, this page still has some stats for comparisons' sake.

http://members.aol.com/vstarblaze - a stat heavy page, which is a little weird to navigate but works reasonably well. There is some homebrewed stuff on there though so if you're not sure, ask Koohii

http://home.adelphia.net/~allard/weg.htm - again, stat heavy, but carries some useful stuff.

http://starwarsabyss.wikidot.com/character-creation - something i found after googling when my first link turned sour, this has a rough guide.

    Thanks for the links.
The most useful aspects, as far as I can guess, would be for those wanting to make non-humans or jedi, and for a complete list of skills and concentrations/specializations.

Anyone needing help or feedback, please feel free to PM me.

Somebody help a newbie here: What do I include in a character concept?

Well, you PM the GM with what you want to play. If you have the rules for the game you can send in stats, atributes, skills, equipment, and background for approval.
If you don't have the rules, I'm sure the GM will help you build the character based on the concept.

Hmmm, I'll probably play in either Merk's game or the D6 game. Which I choose depends on a few questions I'll be asking the GMs first.

If the other games are full and there are still more people wanting to play then I say go for it. What we do have to be careful of is that we don't start up a ton of games that we can't support properly as a board.

On another note, Tendrils of Chaos is now full. If a spot becomes open between now and the start of the game I'll be the first to let you guys know. ;)
