Just got a letter in the mail today asking us to volunteer again this season.

    Please post if you're interested.

I want to call sooner than later so that we have a better chance of getting an indoor spot.

They have stations in Greece, Henrietta, Victor and other towns.
The drives start Nov 16th and end Dec 24th.

I will be inviting the 501st & RL to join us.

I left a message stating that we'd be willing to ring bells as long it was an indoor location and preferably a Saturday.
I'll let you know what dates they come back with...

Just got a call back from the Salvation Army scheduler...
They no longer have indoor locations. :(
Is anyone still willing to volunteer if we need to be outside?

Thanks for volunteering to brave the cold guys!

I called them back and we are scheduled to ring from 10am-12pm outside the Henrietta Wal-Mart.

Afterwards we could do a nice "warm-ya-up" lunch I was thinking. ;)

I'm fairly certain I'm going to be able to do this as Darren will be home to watch the kids.
I will bring our kettle sign, our volunteer stickers and some Rebellion fliers (or maybe business cards would work better here) to hand out to interested parties.

So it looks like we'll have...

    Doc_Bev
    T_StarFlyer
    Wingnut
    SWF-JPB

    And maybes of:
    TD-2709
    Allelujia
    CmdrQob
    DarSolo

I'm guessing that should be plenty as we don't want to totally crowd Wal-Mart's entrance.
But, if more folks are interested - you're more than welcome to join us.

Anyone else still have their volunteer stickers from previous years?

I found 2 from previous years that are already made into name tags and then we got 3 new stickers in the mail.
But if people already have one then I won't go to the trouble of finding the cardboard, single hole puncher and yarn. :p

I will have to look. I did find it a while ago in the pocket of the Jacket I wore last time, but I am not sure what I did with it.

Sounds like Bill & Diane may be joining us as well.

So do folks want to go out to lunch afterwards? And if so - where?

I think that went rather well all things considered.
I've now cold tested my Jawa and I was pretty comfortable. Although any longer than the 2 hours and I would have gotten too cold.
We'll have to look in tomorrow's paper to see what they decide to publish.

And, to update on Leora - she's back to her normal self (with regular doses of Tylenol) but we're taking her in for a follow-up on Monday.
Thanks for all the expressions on concern and to Wingnut for coming to the hospital to check on us. [:D]

May The Force be with these Red Kettle ringers

    Justina Wang

(December 9, 2007) ? A short time ago, outside a Wal-Mart not so far away, Darth Vader's fighters switched their allegiance.

Wielding fistfuls of jingling bells Saturday morning in Henrietta, an Emperor's Royal Guard, a Tie Pilot and an Imperial Officer used their force to fight for an entirely different kind of legion: The Salvation Army.

This is the third year Star Wars fanatics from the Upstate New York 501st Legion's Garrison Excelsior and The Rebellion, Rochester's chapter of FanForce, have donned their robes on behalf of the annual Red Kettle Campaign.

The Dark Side fighters, along with several other characters, are among thousands of volunteer bell ringers who have been standing outside area stores since November, hoping to raise more than $500,000 for The Salvation Army-Rochester Area Services.

"This helps to draw more attention," said Greece resident Nicky Blum, peeking out from her Jawa hood. "People can see something out of the ordinary than just the normal bell ringing."

Saturday morning, shoppers walked by with grins and nudges, few passing without noticing the unusual group of bell ringers.

Eight-year-old Jack Austin of Henrietta spotted the characters from the other end of the parking lot and asked his mother Debi to drive around to the door where they were standing.

"I think this was a good attraction," Debi Austin said, as her son, who has seen four of the Star Wars movies, dropped their donations into the red tin.

The starfighting volunteers don't know how much they netted in their two-hour shift Saturday morning, but if The Force was with them, it'll be one galactic-sized donation.

"We're taking our hobby one step further by doing a little community service with it," said the black-garbed Tie Fighter Pilot, Tom Kuntz of Rochester. "If it gets someone to donate a lot of money, then the better for it."

That was a really good article!
I'll have to get a copy of the paper now. :p

    Pictures are now uploaded

We're low on harddrive space so until we clear some or get some more harddrives, I'm not able to upload two seperate albums on Excelsior and Rochester Fandom. Hopefully after the holidays I can work on getting The Rebellion's photos albums all updated, but since they're still viewable it hasn't been a big priority.
