This is literally the single worst idea I've ever heard of pertaining to this series. Worse than Jabba's nephew, worse than that Loathsome guy's name, and worse than re-writing Mando history. Savaage? Really? Darth Maul's brother? WTF, is this a robot chicken bit or something?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Yes I have, and that's exactly my point. Why does Dooku need a new apprentice/assassin?

Unfortunately, no. I really wish it were a joke or some misunderstood rumour. But it's straight from George Lucas' mouth...

I have a new rule for LACWAC: Savage will hereinafter be referred to as "Randy Savage", "Macho Man Randy Savage", or "Macho Man". [face_clown]

    You mean "OOOOHHH YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

Honestly though, people are making way too big a deal out of this. I don't think TCW is meant to be taken so seriously. It's a kid's show. I know we all hate to accept that, but it is. The good guys almost always win, characters have stupid but easily remembered names, the plots aren't too complicated, and everything makes for a good toy. It's how GL has been doing business for decades. He's even said himself that the whole Star Wars franchise is for kids and he doesn't care about the old people complaining about it.

While many think that having a character be Maul's brother is ridiculous and stupid (and ridiculously stupid), to a 8 yr old, that's pretty cool and an easy way to get him to feel some connection to a new character. It's an easy way to get kids to "buy in" to a new villain and give it instant credibility. Is it the low hanging fruit? Yes. Is it at all inconsistent with how Star Wars has been handled in the last couple of decades? No. But does it also make complete sense for a 30 min. "cartoon" for kids? Absolutely.

So why get all worked up? I've come to the conclusion that to be a sane Star Wars fan (which admittedly is a questionable thing to begin with), you have to be a cafeteria fan. Just pick and choose what you like and try your best to ignore everything you don't. A lot of things make no sense (like Maul's brother), and some things are just stupid (like how they've handled the LAS), so it's best to try to focus on the good (all 6 films finally on blu-ray).

Does that make Ventress a bald-Mizz Elizabeth?

I certainly hope we see Dooku's other Dark Jedi. TCW makes it seem like there is only Ventress, but there are many others. I would particularly like to see Sora Bulq, but I'm afraid the story Lucas writes might clash with his existing story. [face_tired]

From the people I have talked to, I have heard generally nothing but positive remarks about the concept of Savage. Depending on how they tackle it I am all game. Not totally precious about the EU origins. Not to say they are bad but it's not make or break to me. Lucas' vision out trumps the EU IMO.

I actually prefered the spelling Savaage. I mean it at least looked diffrent. Now it just looks the same as the name of my town, or of course the english word. :p

I agree with what the previous poster said. GL vision is always over the EU, and the EU is to be used at GL pleasure to see what ever he sees fit. Now that the clone wars will continue past season 4, they can add and expand their concept. I also like the fact that they aren't going to use EU writers. I know they have a budget and what not, but lets face it......There are things in the EU that just don't jive like Bariss and that bota crap and healing ability. You don't see that in the animated series do you? Nor does any jedi surivive a bomb blast like Cade does in Legacy.

No....Keep the clone wars were they belong with thier own writers. If its so bad like so of you say, then why is it so successful?

The name is horrible, it could work as a name of a ship, but not as a character... The backstory seems so-so. But I try to be open-minded about this. Perhaps it will work well.

I'm really more concerned what they are intending to do with Ventress. That might be a canon wreck.

Since when are all the Zabraks tattooed? I thought that was just something Darth Maul did to himself to make him more fearsome?

What kind of name is "Savage Oppress"? Why does he have to be Darth Maul's brother? Wouldn't Dooku still have a certain amount of animosity towards Maul (for killing Qui-Gon) and anyone associated with Maul? What does the weird lady mean by "fiercest of his kind", as if all Zabraks were like Maul and Savage (which they aren't)? And what's with the extra long head-spikes?

Yeah, its a classic example of unimaginative writing...
But, I bet they thought they were being SO creative.
This can only be about bringing in more toys to sell.

It sure AIN'T for quality of story.

I think these tattooed Zabraks have the derivatives of the ones that real Sith use, Zabraks had been 'using' what used to be Sith tattooes for ages, but only really watered down. The Zabraks of Dathomir might have tattoos closer to what the Sith tattoos look like, but only Maul has the real deal, because Sidious knows what the patterns mean and what they should look like from what he probably studied of Sith history. Plus he intended them to be Sith, not what the other Zabraks would use.

See, the EU is what allowed SW to stay alive during the "dark times" between ROTJ and TPM. LFL has used the EU time and again has a respected part of GL's vision, with such projects as SOTE and using Mark Hamill in a trailer for NJO, that I feel like it shouldn't be tossed aside so heavily by Lucas given how many outrageous ideas he seems to be coming up with lately. I understand that, yes, Lucas' vision reigns supreme, but at the same time he should show a little respect to the fans who have and will keep his franchise alive. I mean, now that the movies are done if they want to keep this cash-cow going he is going to have to put a bit more thought into the fans and the EU. At the same time that doesn't mean I think he should be totally limited by it, but Maul's backstory is cool and I hope they stick with it. Then again, I prefer the new Grevious backstory so who knows maybe if they reshape Maul's backstory they will make one even cooler (if they even should think of doing that, it's a slippery slope). It's def. a complicated discussion. And you raise good points about the bomb blast and things, but also keep in mind that Cade surviving a bomb blast like that and them not using it in TCW have nothing to do with each other. I mean, just because they don't use it in TCW doesn't mean it isn't out there.

As far as Savage, I wonder if he is older, younger or same age as Maul? Does he have the Force? What does Sidious think of him? Will he find out about him? Did he know about him when he found Mail? If so, why take Maul and not Savage? Does Savage want revenge on his brother's killer - Obi-wan/the Jedi?

Does anyone remember that episode of ST:TNG where Tasha Yar, who died in season one early on, it turns out she had a sister? This KIND OF reminds me of that. Kind of.

Starwars.com has posted the video of Savage Oppress' introduction shown at CV:

    http://www.starwars.com/video/view/001073.html

He's not dressed like any sith I've seen and he's definitely not carrying a lightsaber, that's a halberd I think. Given that and his introduction to Dooku by the nightsister I think it's pretty safe to assume he's not had any sith training...and he is coming out of a shuttle so he's presumably not from Dathomir. Still nothing about him being directly related to Maul - perhaps they're just from the same clan and Lucas misspoke?

I think you are giving it more detailed thought than the writers and George do/did.

EDIT: to address a couple other posts, it already cheapens Maul's character in that he is the bigger/badder brother and is awesome without Sith training. And he is already sounding like a rip off because, like Maul, he is the silent type who rarely speaks.
